TCL Communication Commences the Operation of New Global For Immediate Release TCL Communication Commences the Operation of New Global Manufacturing Facility in Huizhou Celebrates the 300 Millionth handset — the Flagship Device, HERO ***** Taking Production Efficiency and Production Capacity to the Next Level (HONG KONG, 29 September 2013) - TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited (“TCL Communication”, together with its subsidiaries referred to as the “Group”; HKSE stock code: 02618) announced its new global manufacturing facility (the “Manufacturing Facility”) has commenced its operation on 28 September, 2013, and celebrates the 300-millionth handset – the flagship device, HERO. In 2011, TCL Communication started preparation for the construction of a “Global Manufacturing Facility”. This Manufacturing Facility, located in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, occupies a site area of 120,000 square meters, which is larger than the old facility for over 30% in terms of site area. The construction project is divided into three phases. The phase one and phase two comprise a 3-storey manufacturing block and a 3-storey dining hall complex that accommodate up to a total of 3,000 seats. Phase three consists of a 6-storey building for office and R&D use. Phase one has already commenced operation. The construction of phase two will be completed in June 2014. The new Manufacturing Facility is home to a rich resource pool of world-class production facilities and product testing instruments, including 30 high-speed Surface Mounted Technology (“SMT”) production lines from Siemens and Philips, over 700 Agilent machines and Rohde & Schwarz RF integrated testers, and a batch of advanced product quality testing equipment including Solder Paste Inspection (“SPI”), Automatic Optic Inspection (“AOI”) and X-Ray, etc., as well as a large fleet of advanced experiment-use and product testing equipment, including Fully Type Approval (“FTA”) and CDMA Development Group (“CDG”) testing systems. The Group has accumulated over years of experiences in testing of handsets and manufacturing technical capabilities on a wide array of different communication technology platforms including MediaTek and Qualcomm. The commencement of commercial production of the Manufacturing Facility enables the Group to streamline the production process flow, and further improves its production efficiency and capacity in order to meet the huge market demand for TCL products. The Group expects the maximum production capacity will reach 120 million units upon completion of the Manufacturing Facility, representing a two-fold increase from the current annual production capacity of 65 million units. The Manufacturing Facility will become the largest single-location mobile handset factory in China, with production capacity, technology, automation and product quality and other aspects reaching world-class standards. As one of the world leaders in telecommunications products, The Group established the longest- serving mobile handset production facility in China with the largest volume of output for exports. The two brands of TCL Communication - TCL and ALCATEL ONE TOUCH are tapping into opportunities from the age of mobile Internet. The Group is under sustainable high-speed development, and is committed to expanding the world’s smart handset market segment. In the first eight months, the Group (including “TCL” and “ALCATEL ONETOUCH”) has recorded global sales of over 30 million units, up 21% year on year. The Group’s smart handset shipments topped 8 million units during the same eight-month period, up 131% year on year. • Chapter 17 Media and Communications
Chapter 17 Media and Communications Hong Kong’s lively media and world-class telecommunications provide ready access to a wealth of information and entertainment, including the publication of 637 daily newspapers and periodicals locally. More than 93 per cent of households are broadband service subscribers and the mobile subscriber penetration rate is about 292 per cent. Hong Kong has one of the most successful telecommunications markets in the world. Fully liberalised and highly competitive, the market provides a wide range of innovative and advanced telecommunications services to consumers and business users. The city also has a long history of film production and a vibrant broadcasting industry. Mass Media Hong Kong’s mass media at the end of 2018 included 80 daily newspapers (including electronic newspapers), 557 periodicals, three domestic free-television programme service licensees, two domestic pay-TV programme service licensees, 14 non-domestic TV programme service licensees, one government-funded public service broadcaster and two sound broadcasting licensees. The availability of the latest telecommunications technology and keen interest in Hong Kong’s affairs have attracted many international news agencies, newspapers with international readership and international broadcasters to establish regional headquarters or representative offices here. The production of regional publications in Hong Kong underlines its importance as a financial, industrial, trading and communications centre. Registered Hong Kong-based press at the year end included 50 Chinese-language dailies, 12 English-language dailies, 14 bilingual dailies and four in Japanese. One of the English dailies publishes a daily Braille edition in conjunction with the Hong Kong Society for the Blind. Of the Chinese-language dailies, 43 cover mainly local and international news, and the remaining ones specialise in other subjects such as financial news.
