From the Pastor’s Desk… On Palm Sunday, the Church celebrates Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish His Paschal Mystery. This marks the beginning of Holy Week, a time in which we remember the Passion of Christ in a particular way as we look forward to His Resur- rection. For all of us as Catholic Christians, these “holy days” ought to be special in the sense that we sincerely allow ourselves to enter more deeply into our relationship with Jesus through prayer, reflection, acts of selfdenial, good works, and attendance (if we are able) at the Church’s liturgies. The Sacred Triduum (see schedule on cover of the bulletin), the culmination of the entire liturgical year, begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00 p.m. on Holy Thursday, which commemorates the institution of the and Priesthood. (The church will remain open for Adoration until 10:00 p.m.) Good Friday is a day of Fast and Abstinence. The service of Good Friday (starting with the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:30 p.m.) observes with deep solemnity the Lord’s suffering and death; the account of the Lord’s Passion is recalled, the Cross is venerated, and Holy Communion is distributed (Mass is not celebrated.) Stations of the Cross will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. in the evening. On Holy Saturday, the Church waits in prayerful anticipation of the Lord’s Resurrection. (Easter food will be blessed at 2:00 p.m.) The Easter Vigil Mass takes place at 8:00 p.m. in the evening. (No other Vigil Masses are celebrated that day.) Masses on Easter Sunday will be at the regular times. Give yourself a spiritual treat M set aside some time for your Savior this week. May we know Jesus better and love Him more as we walk with Him in joyful hope of our own resurrection. Fr. Jim THE FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY Our Lord asked St. Faustina to pray and work towards establishing a Feast of The Divine Mercy the Sunday after Easter. He told her: On that day, the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon souls who approach the font of My mercy. The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. (Diary, 699). John Paul II officially declared during the homily of the Mass for Sister Faustina’s canonization on April 30, 2000: It is important that we accept the whole message that comes to us from the word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on throughout the Church will be called “Divine Mercy Sunday.” The begins on Good Friday and culminates on Divine Mercy Sunday (the Sunday after Easter). Jesus Himself gave this novena of prayers to St. Faustina. Please join us beginning on Good Friday: (The Novena will be prayed in the Church.) Good Friday, April 2 at 2:30pm Holy Saturday, April 3 after 9am Morning Prayer Easter Sunday, April 4 at 1:00pm MondayThursday, April 58 after 9:00am Mass Friday, April 9 after 8:30am Mass Saturday, April 10 after 8:00am Mass Sunday, April 11 at 1:00pm

JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU.

REMINDER: MASKS MUST BE WORN THE ENTIRE TIME YOU ARE IN CHURCH. THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS AFTER YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FROM THE PRIEST AND HAVE STEPPED TO THE SIDE TO CONSUME. YOU CANNOT REMOVE THE MASK WHILE SEATED. HAITI DENTAL CLINIC JANUARY 2021 The U.S. members of the Haiti Dental Team have been unable to travel to Coq Chante since 2018 due to the unstable condi- tions in the country. Nevertheless, the Haitian dentists have made several trips from their homes in the capitol of Portau Prince to our twin parish of St the Archangel in re- mote and mountainous Coq Chante. Most recently, Dr Davis and Dr Rousseau, two of the enthusi- astic and highly skilled dentists we have worked with in the past, ran a clinic for six days during the last week of January. Working with two assistants and a clinic coordinator, the team was able to see 254 patients. More than 400 extractions were done along with a number of cleanings and fillings. The num- ber of fillings was unfortunately limited by problems with both the power and the equipment. We are investing in remediation of both issues prior to the upcoming clinic this Spring. The dentists and the clinic coordinator also instructed the patients in the principles of oral hygiene in our continuing effort to ensure preventative measures that reduce or eliminate dental decay. Dr Rousseau mentioned a patient whose wisdom tooth was so painful that she could not sleep. She was so exhausted she could hardly feed her newborn baby but she was so frightened that she left the clinic before an extraction could be done. Her husband brought her back, saying he was not getting any sleep either. The dentists were able to calm her and extract the tooth and she re- turned two days later to thank them and to bring another patient with her. The value of the work done was close to $90,000 on a budget of less than $4000. As always, the relief of pain and suffering was immense. The dental care provided sends a clear message to our twin parish that we continue to honor our commitment to their health and wellbeing. We continue to honor also the legacy of Dr. Dick Sheehan, whose heart was touched so deeply on the first dental trip in 2009 and we recognize the tireless contributions of Dr. Don Tucker, who has ensured that the legacy continues. And we thank our donors who have made the continuation of this work possible even from afar. Thank you so much for your generosity and for your continued support

UPON THIS ROCK NOTICE Beginning in 2015, The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., Inc. (“Foundation”) began soliciting dona- tions to its “Upon this Rock” (“UTR”) capital and endowment campaign. The UTR campaign raised funds for many purposes, including soliciting funds for making essential upgrades to classroom facilities and technology of Seminary (“CKS”), expanding CKS’s role as a center of retreat and religious celebration, and establishing an endowment fund for CKS. Un- fortunately, in early 2020, CKS’s Board of Trustees determined that CKS would close at the end of the 20202021 academic year. CKS’s closure will make it impossible for the Foundation to use the UTR funds raised for CKS for their original intended purpos- es. However, under New York law, when the original purposes for which funds are donated become impossible to achieve, those purposes can be modified in a manner consistent with original intent by the New York State courts. For many years, CKS provided education and formation for ordained and lay ecclesial ministers in the Diocese of Buffalo and beyond. Accordingly, the Founda- tion has asked the New York State Supreme Court for the County of Erie to approve a modification of the purposes of UTR funds raised for CKS so that those funds can be used to support the education and formation for ordained and lay ecclesial ministry in the Diocese of Buffalo, as determined in the discretion of the Foundation’s Board. If you have donated to UTR and would like to be heard regarding this requested modification, you may send a letter to: The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., Inc., attention Executive Director, 795 Main Street, Buffalo, N.Y. 14203 or an email to [email protected]. Copies of letters or email received by the Foundation will be provided to the Court. You may also make a formal filing in the legal proceeding entitled Matter of the Modification of Endowment Funds of The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo N.Y., Inc., Erie County Index No. 814747/2020. In order for your submis- sion to be available for the Court’s consideration, please be sure to send any letter or email, or make any filing, no later than Fri- day, April 9, 2021. “Serving Orchard Park & Southtowns With Dignity Since 1937” Gentle Personalized Care The Allen Potter House 170 Years orchardparkvillagedental.com The Allen Potter House Museum of History 6590 East Quaker St. Potter’s Park Tammy Perison, DDS 662-7651 East Quaker St. TIMOTHY J.
