Church of England Religious Ethos

Temple Grafton School is a voluntary Church of England school founded by the Church of England in 1874. The school maintains its close links with St Andrew’s Church in Temple Grafton and its Parish.

We believe a Church school is distinctive and inclusive; everyone is important to us. We offer the full National Curriculum. In addition there is a sense of belonging to a family within our school. We teach forgiveness, encouragement and respect for each other. We take time to search for the truth and will try to offer help and support to those who need it.

The school have an opportunity for daily collective worship. We also have assemblies conducted by the Parish Vicar and other visiting preachers from Church of England, Methodist and Baptist denominations. Harvest, Christmas and Easter festivals are celebrated in St Andrew’s Church. The school community are very welcome to join us for these special services.

Every Friday afternoon at 2.45 – 3.20 p.m. we hold a Celebration Assembly in the school hall when we celebrate special events during our school week. Children may bring in certificates (by 9am every Friday) that they have been awarded for activities they participate in outside school, these will be presented to them during assembly. Every class teacher will also identify a pupil who will be awarded a ‘Star of the Week’ the certificate to acknowledge a special achievement they have made during their time in school that week. Parents and the school community are also made very welcome to join us during these celebrations.

Should parents wish to withdraw their children from assembly and Religious Education lessons they may discuss the situation with the Headteacher.

We are proud of our foundation as a Church School.

Where questions concerning sexual matters arise incidentally they will be dealt with in a sensitive manner, having due regard to moral considerations and the value of family life.

Parents will be given the opportunity to see teaching materials and receive explanations of the ways they will be used. Parents can make representations to the governing body through the Headteacher in order to withdraw their children from Sex Education. Special Education Needs

We believe that Temple Grafton School provides a broad and balanced curriculum for all its pupils. Individual class teachers will set suitable learning challenges in response to children’s diverse learning needs. Some children, or groups of children, may require a more specific learning provision. Class teachers will take account for these children and identify the requirement for additional support to enable them to participate effectively in curriculum and assessment activities.

Children may have special educational needs either throughout, or at any time during their school career.

The Special Educational Code of Practice identifies a graduated response to supporting those children identified as requiring additional support. We follow these procedures in the following way:-

 Early identification is important; this could be from the class teacher, concerns raised by the parents or could be identified through individual pupil tracking identifying ‘inadequate progress’ against the standard criteria.  Parents are informed at the earliest opportunity to enlist their active help and participation. The school believe that the parents have a vital role to play in supporting their child’s education through working in partnership with the school and any other agencies.  The assessment of the child reflects as far as possible the child’s participation in the whole curriculum of the school.  We have support from the L.E.A., L.A.B.S.S. (Learning and Behaviour Support Service) who together with the school SENCO department draw up a programme of support that is made into an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This contains strategies that are additional or different from those already provided. At this point the child would be added to the school’s Special Educational Needs Register.  The IEP is reviewed each term after consultation with parents who are invited to contribute at all stages.

Temple Grafton School Prospectus 2013-2014

 If over a period of time progress is still a concern then additional intervention may be provided either from within school, L.E.A. or LABSS.

Gifted and Talented Pupils

Some pupils are put onto the Gifted and Talented register. In our school ‘Gifted’ children are those working 2 years above the age-related expectations in academic subjects e.g. Maths and English. ‘Talented’ children are those with outstanding ability in one or more aspect of the broader curriculum e.g. Sport, Drama, Music or Art. These children have opportunities tailored to their needs, both within and outside normal class activities.

Accessibility

Pupils with disabilities are catered for appropriately. We do not discriminate against children with disabilities. Through our very positive approach to ‘every child matters’ and the high profile of our SENCO department we ensure that disabled pupils are treated on equal terms.

For children, staff and parents, if required, we have disabled access via our lower level and through to the rest of the school using the lift. Parking

With the intention of keeping all our pupils safe at all times, we ask everyone to set an example to the community of careful and legal parking around the school grounds, especially at busy times before and after school. We ask you to consider walking to school if at all possible. If you do have to use a car you may also wish to consider parking away from the school grounds and walking a short distance to school. The village hall also offers safe parking opportunities.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school offers several thriving after school activities. These include Football, Drama, Hockey, Netball and Languages. Sport teams also represent the school in various area competitions, as well as playing friendly matches against neighbouring schools. In the summer our local cricket clubs offer Kwik-Cricket coaching for the juniors.

We are very proud of our junior school choir who practice once a week at lunchtime. They regularly have an opportunity to perform either in assembly, in church or on visits to sing to the local community.

We offer music lessons for all Key stage 2 children from ‘Music for Schools’. Lessons are available on the clarinet, alto sax, soprano sax, flute and cornet. We also offer piano lessons.

There is a strong tradition of school concerts and drama at our school. Every child participates in a Christmas production. Key stage 2 pupils have an opportunity to play a role in the annual village show along with the rest of the village Amateur Dramatic Clubs and Singers.

Visits

We have visitors in school and we take children on visits both to enhance their learning. We consider this to be such a valuable part of their education. Every other year, in June, we take years 5 and 6 on a residential trip for a long weekend. This is seen as an important part of their personal and social development which is so important for this age group.

Charging Policy

At our school we want to provide a range of experiences which add excitement and enjoyment to children’s learning and personal development. All our children should have an equal opportunity to benefit from school visits, curricular and extra-curricular activities. Many of these activities have a cost associated with them and, unfortunately, can not be provided unless we ask parents for voluntary contributions. However if we do not receive enough voluntary contributions we may have to cancel an activity. We will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible of any activities which will require voluntary contributions.

Destination Schools For Year 6 Leavers

Our last year 6 leavers went to the following schools:-

 1 pupil to Alcester Grammar School  6 pupils to Chipping Campden  1 pupil to St Egwins  8 pupils to Alcester Technology High School

What did they think it meant to be a pupil at our school?

I think I am lucky to be a T.G. pupil because I am given responsibilities and I am trusted with them. All the pupils know me because this is a small school; all the teachers are kind to me and give me helpful advice. Asha

It means you have to respect others around you, and look after property like you treat others. Share your kindness with everyone. It’s like you are a member of something. Gemma

I am very proud to be a Temple Grafton pupil because you are treated with respect by all the teachers. They are nice to you and you always have a chance to show your talents and do the best you can in T.G. Tom

It feel’s safe here with lots of friends to support you and help you. Alex

I like being a T.G. pupil because it’s such a small school that everyone knows each other and their names and the little ones play with the older ones and it’s nice and friendly. Phoebe

Everybody shows respect to each other. And because it’s a very small school nobody is left out, so almost everybody can show off their skills. This school is like a very, very small version of Britain’s Got Talent. Nicholas
