INTRODUCTION Hon'ble Supreme Court of India dated 27th February, 2012 in I.A. No.12-13 of 2011 in Special Leave Petition (C) No.19628-19629 of 2009, in the matter of Deepak Kumar etc. Vs. State of Haryana and Others etc., prior environmental clearance has made mandatory for mining of minor minerals irrespective of the area of mining lease. Accordingly, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF & CC) had issued Office Memorandum No. LllOll/47/2011-IA.II(M) dated 18th May 2013. As per this O.M. all mining projects of minor minerals would henceforth require prior Environmental Clearance irrespective of the lease area. The stone quarry and sand quarrying projects need environmental clearance as per the MoEF guidelines and such pg. 47 projects are treated as Category ‘B' even if the lease area is less than 5 Ha. Subsequently, various amendments were made as regards to obtain environmental clearance of the minor minerals. The Hon'ble National Green Tribunal, vide its order dated the 13th January, 2015 in the matter regarding sand mining has directed for making a policy on environmental clearance for mining leases in cluster for minor minerals. As per the latest amendment S.O. 141 (E) & S.O.190(E) dated 15th January 2016 & 20th January in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of Section 3 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 (29 of 1986) and in pursuance of notification of Ministry of Environment and Forest number S.O. 1533 (E), dated the 14th September, 2006 the Central Government had constituted the District Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (DEIAA), for grant of Environmental Clearance for Category „B2' Projects for mining of minor minerals, for all the districts in the country. But later on Hon. NGT , vide its order dated 13th Sept.2018, stated that for 0-5 Ha areas also recommendation of grant EC by SEIAA instead of DEAC/DEIAA. The MoEF&CC in its Notification dated 15th January 2016 has prescribed Preparation of District Survey Report for Sand Mining or River Bed Mining and Mining of other Minor Minerals. A detailed procedure and format for preparation of District Survey Report is provided in the said Notification. Further the procedure for preparation of DSR and format is amended vide MoEF&CC Notification S.O. 3611(E) dated 25.07.2018. The DSR is defined at “Appendix -X (See Paragraph 7(iii)(a)" of the notification S.O.141(E)dated 15.01.2016 and S.O. 3611(E) dated 25.07.2018. 2. OVERVIEW OF MINING ACTIVITY IN THE DISTRICT Aurangabad District does not have any major mineral sources like Iron, Aluminum, Coal, etc. but district has a rich source of minor mineral like stones, pebbles, red soils (Moorum), sand etc. The ever increasing influx of people in the city of Aurangabad has heightened the hopes for having more qualitative public facilities at an approachable distance. This has increased the demand in construction industry and various facilities are developed. All developmental activities need different construction material of which sand is basic material used for development of roads, bridges, buildings etc. River bed sand quarries are the only source of supply of sand. The River sand quarries are located at approachable distance from where sand is transported with ease and at low costs. Domestic demand plays a major role in the fast growth of sand mining. In fact the domestic demand of sand and stone has been found increasing in India. The sand consumption has increased over the last few decades. The demand and production of sand as a construction material is increasing rapidly due to increased infrastructure development projects and other construction activities supported by the packages provided by the Government. The entire market for sand is from the Aurangabad city and surrounding area. There are about 40 stone quarries Aurangabad District for 5 years period and around 70 applications received for stone quarries which will further going for environmental clearance and other statutory permissions from Govt. authority. There are 20 temporarily operating stone quarries and 37 Morrum quarries in the district. As far sand is concerned for the year 2020-21 total 21 sand ghat locations confirmed by the district committee for scooping of sand. 3. Nidān, Volume 4, No. 1, July 2019, pp. 1-18 ISSN 2414-8636 The Cantonment Town of Aurangabad: Contextualizing Christian Missionary Activities in the Nineteenth Century Bina Sengar Assistant Professor, Department of History and Ancient Indian Culture School of Social Sciences Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, [email protected] Abstract The cantonment town of Aurangabad has a legacy of being soldier’s territory since the inception of the city of Aurangabad or Khadki/Fatehnagar in the late 13th century (Ramzaan, 1983, Green, 2009). The city’s settlement pattern evolved as per the requirements of cantonment, planned during the Nizamshahi and later, during the Mughal rule in the city. In fact, Aurangabad evolved as a cantonment city even before the British. As we study the city’s networks and its community history, we come across a civic society web, which gathered and settled gradually as service providers or as dependent social groups on the resident military force. In the late eighteenth century when the British allied with the Nizam state of Hyderabad, they were given special place in the Aurangabad cantonment to develop a military base. The British military base in the early decades of the nineteenth century in Aurangabad, thus, worked intensively to cope with the already well-established community connection of a strategic defence town. This research paper will explore and discuss relationships between British soldiers and officers and the well-established societal web of communities living in Aurangabad from early decades of nineteenth century, before the 1857 revolt. Keywords: Aurangabad, British, Cantonment, Defence, English Introduction During July 2018, army cantonments in India constituted the news headlines, and soon entered coffee table discussions among heritage lovers.

  • Dyke Swarm at Vaijapur-Gangapur, Aurangabad District, Maharashtra, India - Field Characters and Deformations
International Journal of Science and Research (IJSR) ISSN: 2319-7064 SJIF (2019): 7.583 Dyke Swarm at Vaijapur-Gangapur, Aurangabad District, Maharashtra, India - Field Characters and Deformations R. D. Kaplay1, Md. Babar2, Krishna Bochre3, Kiran Karade4 1, 3, 4School of Earth Sciences, S.R.T.M. University, Nanded-431606 Maharashtra, India 2Department of Geology, Dnyanopasak College, Parbhani-431401 Maharashtra, India Abstract: In addition to the three major dyke swarms from Deccan Volcanic Province, the Dyke swarm is reported from Central Deccan Volcanic Province from Aurangabad region recently. Small size dyke swarm is also reported from South East Deccan Volcanic Province, Nanded. In this paper we study the Dyke Swarm from NW of Aurangabad region in Maharashtra. These basaltic dykes have intruded the host basaltic rocks. The length of the dykes varies from 1.8 to 6.5 km and in width dykes vary from 1.5 to 18.0 m. The dominant orientation of the dykes is NE-SW which matches with the trend of Narmada-Tapi Dyke Swarm. The study describes the evidence of ‘deformations (off-set)’. The deformations in the dykes are ‘non-tectonic’ (the off-set in dykes is attributed to the mechanical contrast of the associated rock types) as well as ‘tectonic’ (displacement along fractures). The deformations observed at Aurangabad and present study area, are primary (non-tectonic) and secondary (tectonic) deformation. This zone, a stretch of ~ 65 km is designated as Central Deccan Volcanic Province Deformation Zone (CDVPDZ). Keywords: Dyke swarm, deformation, Deccan basalt, Vaijapur-Gangapur, Aurangabad 1. • Study of Phytoplankton in Ambadi Dam of Telwadi (Kannad) Maharashtra Anil A
Introduction: Ambadi dam is located in the Telwadi of Kannad .The dam is constructed by irrigation department of Government of Mahara shtra. It is a medium irrigation project for water conserv ation. It is built up on the river shivana or Ambadi. River shivana is the tributary of river Godavari. It is originates from Satmala hilly region, Pitalkhora of Kannad taluka and it runs from west to east. The paper is mainly deals with the study of phytoplankton. In this dam phytoplankton diversity are the microscopic bodies which are aquatic and autotrophic components. They are oats on the surface of water as well as live in ponds, lakes rivers, stagnant water etc. Phytoplankton is the basic food source of higher aquatic animals. The growth of phytoplankton are depends on availability of sunlight, carbon dioxide and basic nutrients. The completion of Ambadi dam was in the year 1978. The length of dam is 2210m and height is about Discussion: The water samples are collected from the three different sites of Ambadi dam. During the observation highest number of algae are observed from Cyanophyceae (Oscillatoria), Euglenaceae (Euglena), Bascillariophyceae (Pinnularia) and Chlorophyceae (Spirogyra). .
