Regarding Letters of Sponsorship Sincerely, for Baptism and Confirmation Sr. Jane, l.s.p.

Collecting Sister We receive many requests for “Letters of Sponsorship”. Many of the requests come from people who have little or no association with St.

Joseph’s Parish.

------In order for us to honestly testify to your good standing as a parishioner,

these are the basic requirements:

 One must be an active parishioner of St Joseph’s for at least 6

months. This means: one must be registered here and you MUST

be attending Mass. Being an ‘active’ parishioner also means you

are committed to some form of stewardship of your time, talent and

financial resources to help support the parish and the Church of the

Archdiocese of New York.

 You MUST have received the sacraments of Baptism and

Confirmation yourself.

 If married, you must be in a recognized

marriage.

If these minimum requirements are not fulfilled, it is NOT possible for any

of the priests to endorse your sponsorship for the Sacraments of Baptism

or Confirmation.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER HIS WORD TODAY: A fresh perspective on the Sunday Readings - By Rev. William J. Reilly

“Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our dwelling with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words; yet the word you hear is not mine, but that of the Father who sent me’… ‘the Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you.’”

Some recall famous farewell speeches. Others refer to them as pep talks. In business we find motivational speakers. The gospel of John in Jesus’ priestly talks, offers us all three.

How special to realize that because of my dedication and commitment, I am a living dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. How special to know that the Spirit is teaching me today, as a missionary of a loving God. How special, because of my many cares and distractions, that I am reminded of what is of value, the treasure hidden in the field, the pearl of great price. Jesus is not just preparing me for His departure, or entrusting His mission to me, but expects me to carry it out by what I say and do.

+++ The ’s Monthly Prayer Intentions – MAY 2019 Evangelization – The Church in Africa, a Seed of Unity That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for this continent.

Worship Notes The temple where the Spirit dwells Today’s reading from Revelation gives us an opportunity to contemplate the symbol of the parish church as a sign of Christ’s presence. For this we look to the Rite of Dedication of a Church: “This holy people . . . is the Church, that is, the temple of God built of living stones, where the Father is worshiped in spirit and in truth. Rightly, then, from early times ‘church’ has also been the name given to the building in which the Christian community gathers” (1).

Here we see that the church is first the people assembled to give praise to God. Second, it is the building in which the people gather. Ekklesia is the Greek word for the Hebrew qahal: it describes a group of people who are summoned or convoked, set apart for a purpose.

What is the purpose of this gathering of the people called the church? By hearing and receiving God’s word and in unity through font and table, we become the temple of the Spirit made visible around the altar. What makes the church building holy is not so much the prayers and anointings over the stone and wood but the love and unity that is visible and shared among its members, most especially with those who have been left out.

This week look deeper into the history of Saint Joseph’s Parish. When was it dedicated? Why was it given the name it bears? Look also to the neighborhood of Bronxville. Who is missing from the neighborhood among our Sunday assembly? What are some ways to help them know this building called the church belongs to them, too?

Please REMEMBER THE SICK IN YOUR PRAYERS: Names will appear for four weeks, they will be removed unless we hear from the family Ann Androvett, Bernard Becker, Anne DiGraci, John Naughton, Joan Lynch, Cathy Slingerland Chomiak, Mary Glennon, Eddie Belliveau, Joan Kelly, Roseanne Nuzzolo, Kathleen Edwards, Eileen McLoughlin, Fortunata Focella, Ann Marie Kiernan, Alison Conway, Joanna Sibio, Anthony Pitruzzello, Sr. Marge Shannon, John DeRosa, Louise Caputo, James Murphy, Esther Carmody, Marianne Lavin, Mark Jennings Sr., Casimira M.
