The current analysis describes the results of an integrated sedimentological and geomorphological study of the Neapolitan coastal area. A sedimentological and morphosedimentary study was carried out by bathymetric survey and sampling of bottom sediments. The analysis of modal isodensity curves shows that all the sediments are moved from NW to SE by longshore currents parallel to the coastline. The morphological evolution of the Castellammare di Stabia Gulf coastal area, based on historical coastline changes, starts from 1865, when the sandy littoral was wide and in its natural state. Since the construction of the Torre Annunziata harbor in 1871, sediments transported by a NW-SE longshore drift have become trapped, inducing the genesis of a new wide triangular-shaped beach on the updrift side (NW) of the harbor breakwall. This process induced a significant shoreline retreat of the south-east sector of the littoral. Widespread beach erosion of the coastal physiographic unit of Castellammare di Stabia Gulf (delimited by two ports) is more developed in the southern portion.

Savo1,2*, R. Joy1,3, G. Caneva2 and W. C. McClatchey4 Abstract Background: Many ethnobotanical studies have investigated selection criteria for medicinal and non-medicinal plants. In this paper we test several statistical methods using different ethnobotanical datasets in order to 1) define to which extent the nature of the datasets can affect the interpretation of results; 2) determine if the selection for different plant uses is based on phylogeny, or other selection criteria. Methods: We considered three different ethnobotanical datasets: two datasets of medicinal plants and a dataset of non-medicinal plants (handicraft production, domestic and agro-pastoral practices) and two floras of the Amalfi Coast. We performed residual analysis from linear regression, the binomial test and the Bayesian approach for calculating under-used and over-used plant families within ethnobotanical datasets. Percentages of agreement were calculated to compare the results of the analyses. We also analyzed the relationship between plant selection and phylogeny, chorology, life form and habitat using the chi-square test. Pearson’s residuals for each of the significant chi-square analyses were examined for investigating alternative hypotheses of plant selection criteria. Results: The three statistical analysis methods differed within the same dataset, and between different datasets and floras, but with some similarities. In the two medicinal datasets, only Lamiaceae was identified in both floras as an over-used family by all three statistical methods.

Received: 28 July 2020; Accepted: 31 August 2020; Published: 2 September 2020 Abstract: This work presents an 18-year-long (2002–2019) tide-gauge dataset collected on the Island of Ischia (Gulf of Naples, Southern Tyrrhenian Sea) that can contribute to the analysis of the basic features of sea-level variability in this region. Analysis of tidal constituents shows that the Gulf of Naples is characterized by the absence of any amphidromic system. In this area, sea-level changes due to the astronomical component of the tide are generally limited to 20 cm with respect to the mean sea level, ± but the impact of this variability is enhanced by global sea-level increase and the effect of regional atmospheric perturbations that might also triple sea-level variations. The effects of these events, whose frequency has increased in recent decades, has been dramatic in coastal areas where intense social and economic activity occurs, e.g., in Ischia.

RIASSUNTO - Presenza della lontra (Lutra lutra) nei monti Lattari (Carnpania)- Si descrive un'area di presenza della lontra (Lutra lutva) in Campania mai segnalata prima, comprendente la "Valle delle Fcrriere" attraversata dal torrente Ceraso e la valle denominata "Vkcite" (Amalfi, Provincia di Salerno). In totale Sono stati trovati 24 siti di marcamento. Parole chiave: Lutra lutra, Distribuzione, Alimentazione, Italia meridionale. In Italy the survival of the otter (Lutru lutru) depends on the conservation of the populations living in the South (Cassola, 1986; Prigioni & Fumagalli, 1992). Several rivers hosting otters are in the Salerno province (Campania region) where this research was undertaken. In particular the present paper reports on the results of a field study carried out in Lattari mountains. Lattari mountains extend from the Apennines sloping down westward to the Tyrrhenian sea. They represent the backbone of the Sorrento-Amalfi peninsula and separate the gulf of Naples from that of Salerno (Fig. 1). The study area is characterized by streams that run in canyons and have a flow heavily influenced by precipitations.
