ALL SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Nurse: Dear Parents, Head 101

What parents need to know …

Lice are a part of life! There are millions of infestations in the U.S. alone every year and certainly all over Morocco as well! A place or school cannot get lice - only people. They cannot jump or fly; and love to crawl in anyone’s hair! They can only be passed by direct head to head contact; it is very uncommon to spread lice through personal items such as combs/brushes or hair accessories. Also getting lice does not mean you are dirty or have poor hygiene!

Proper treatment is critical to eliminate any live infestations of lice. Please be diligent to adequately treat using a special shampoo for killing lice and thorough combing out of all nits (check out the video for a great tutorial of how to do this!). This takes many hours! The nurse office has special lice combs from America available for purchase (200dhs) if you would like to have one for your household.

For a healthy GWA, Miss Hannah Hair, RN, BSN

LOWER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS Dear Parents/Guardians, We had a fabulous first week back from Fall Break. As we wrap up the month of October we are continu- ing to emphasize our monthly character trait - RESPONSIBILITY. Students have been engaged in various learning activities including guest readers in each classroom as together we explore the importance of making the choice to be reliable and dependable. Please continue to emphasize this at home as we journey through the year together. As we prepare for November and December I want to remind you of our upcoming parent/teacher con- ferences. We will not have school for students on 15 November so that Elementary teachers and parents can conference about student progress thus far. You will receive a time from your child's teacher. Like- wise, Preschool will not have school on 7 December (all other GWA students still have school this day) so that Preschool teachers and parents can conference. Again, you will receive a time from your child's teacher. Ongoing communication and attending scheduled conferences are two important ways in which we part- ner together, school and home, to inspire, equip, and empower GWA students to succeed. Kind regards, Kevin Brenner Lower School Principal

Announcements:

 Parent/teacher conferences are coming soon (15 November for Elementary, 7 December for Pre- school). You will receive specific time from teachers to come to conferences.

 As the weather turns cooler please be reminded that all 1st-5th graders should have a GWA uniform item as their outer layer. Non-GWA jackets are not permitted.

 3 tardies equals 1 absence. A student risks repeating the grade level if she/he reaches 20 absences

 All parents must check in at reception after 8:35. If a child is to be picked up before 3:00, they must come to to check the child out. The office will call the classroom to have the child brought to the office. No parents should go to classrooms without a visitor badge.

UPPER SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS This week the Upper School would like to share how Ms. Emily Griggs is inspiring our students to be confi- dent in their ideas and abilities to become ambassadors for GWA. This is Ms. Griggs second year as the GWA Speech and Debate coach. The GWA students that are a part of this team learn interpersonal skills and develop self-confidence that will assist them as they continue on to college and the world of work. This Saturday and Sunday, Ms. Griggs will be coaching the GWA Speech and Debate team as they host a competition for other international schools from Morocco. Ms. Griggs and our students have spent many hours of preparation and practice so that they can represent the GWA community well. You are in- vited to come out and support our students starting at 8:30am on Saturday.
