MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 5

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Your Committee has much pleasure in submitting for your approval the 86 th Annual Report and Statement of Receipts and Payments for season 2015/16.

A summary of the Club’s achievements this past season follows: On Field: Premiers 2 nd XI (Armstrong Shield), 3 rd XI (Thomson Shield), and U18 (Hamilton Shield). Runners up U16 (AR Tongue Shield), U15 girls (Anna Lanning Shield).

Participation: A total of 257 players represented Mont Albert Cricket Club in season 2015/16. Ben Galtieri turned out for a massive 27 matches, Rishabh Nagpal 22 matches, and Nick Adgemis and Luke Pich each played 21 matches for the season.

Some significant milestones were reached this season. Most notably, Robert Grumont played his 500 th game for the club and Rick Barker his 400 th . Jeff Mollison passed both 10000 runs and 500 during the season becoming the only player in the history of MACC to achieve such a feat. A number of other significant milestones were achieved during the season and are listed at the end of this report.

Thank you to the committee, captains, coaches, team managers and volunteers for your efforts throughout the season.

1st XI captain Jack Joslin continues to lead our club in the right direction. He sets a great example in the way he prepares and had an outstanding season on the field individually.

In his second year as junior coordinator, Jim Alexander once again did a fantastic job, coordinating 7 junior teams as well as a number of successful junior functions. The time and effort given by Jim is much appreciated.

In sometimes trying circumstances, Wayne Harris once again managed to get 4 veterans sides on the park. Two of these teams were entered in the newly formed ECA veteran’s competition which was a great success.

Thank you to Tim Wright in his role as Vice President and Saturday Cricket Manager, Harvey Jones for managing the website and to Rick Barker who once again served as chairman of selectors. Chris Jackson joined the committee this year and along with Jimmy Wright coordinated a number of successful social functions. Of particular note was the Ladies Luncheon which is growing each year and this year raised in excess of $1700 for the McGrath Foundation.

Chris Jones and Chris Jackson (with help from a number of others) once again ran the successful Milo in2cricket program on Friday nights which was enjoyed by more than 40 children and their parents.

As always, Jack Wright, Roger Smith, Peter Burchall and Richard Harding went above and beyond in ensuring the pavilion was kept in great shape, the bar was well stocked, and that the players could get on the park each week. Peter Coombs did another outstanding job as first XI scorer and extended his services to the 2 nd XI for their finals series. Volunteers are the lifeblood of sporting clubs and we are privileged to have such great support from these people.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 6

Thank you to Peter Knox as President and Allen Burton as treasurer for the time and effort they give to the Mont Albert Cricket Club.

Thank you to all of our sponsors, in particular the Bendigo Community Bank for their generous support. Season 2015/16 also saw us welcome new sponsor Caltex, Box Hill on Whitehorse Rd. Our club would not operate without the generous support of our sponsors and I urge you to support them whenever possible.

This year’s Chris Dunning Trophy (Secretary’s award for best report) required those submitting reports to use the words ‘problematic’ and ‘echoed’ in the same sentence. A special mention to Dale Greedy who in his first attempt used “echoed” to describe a match winning six. He is unfortunately disqualified for failing to include the required words in the same sentence. Last year’s winner Graeme Chipp did not use the required past tense ‘echoed’ in his report and as such could not defend his title this year. Peter Knox dips out once again due to the lateness of his report, leaving Gus McLean as a ‘Steven Bradbury like’ winner as the only entrant to correctly follow the instructions.

Congratulations to the trophy winners for season 2015-16. The winners of the various awards for the season are as follows;

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Thinking about the season just completed during the Autumnal months led me to mull over and recall many events mostly successful, a few frustrating with the occasional rare disappointing outcome. So to help the thought process I started to prepare a laundry list of what went well, what we need to do better and onward to what I think we need to be doing for next year and the future to further build our club. Having done that I found I’d pretty much laid out this report, so here goes.

What went well • It was a pleasure to serve as part of our Committee, everyone contributed along the way either by taking on a specific defined task or contributing as opportunity presented. Greg Cull and Allen Burton shouldered much of the load as Secretary and Treasurer and were invaluable as a source of good counsel and ideas. Our finances are strong and we are well administered. Thanks to Wayne Harris, Harvey Jones, Dale Greedy, Chris Jackson, Tim Wright, Jim Alexander and of course Richard Barker. • It was a triumphant year for our 2nd and 3rd XI Captains and their teams; Greg Cull tasted success with a long awaited Premiership and in his first season as Captain of the 3rd XI Dale Greedy came up with a Premiership. Both sides dominated their grades and by Christmas it was apparent they were the teams to beat. Graeme Chipp’s and Gus Maclean’s boys were competitive all season but couldn’t quite make it through to March. Particular mention to our U18s who completed three premierships in a row to dominate the competition. This achievement was not without it’s share of bumps along the way and it is clear the Committee must provide more support for our boys. Under Jack ‘s leadership our 1st XI made good progress, with a young and emerging team winning more than it loses; and with the addition of one or two additional players over the Winter we will be realistically positioned for greater success (more on the 1 XI a bit later). One reason why our on field performances are improving is a much more diligent approach to pre season training and practice matches. • The youth and vitality of our players. The profile of the club has changed over recent years we are now at the youthful end of the spectrum and again are well placed for the future. • Our Pavilion goes from success to success and has become the heart of the club and we are achieving our aim of using the pavilion and ground solidly 7 days a week. More and more the wider local community is seeing the club as a venue to socialise, relax and enjoy great company and participate in off field activity. Consequently relations with the community around us are improving and mutually supportive. Our supporter base is growing beyond immediate family and friends as we are being seen as a welcoming ‘destination’ to spend time. Our Life Members have generously endowed the Club with high quality furniture for the deck that is adding (now and for many years to come) to the Pavilion and the comfort of members and spectators. Thanks to Richard Harding for bringing the Life Members together and coordinating this endowment.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 10

• Social events are also expanding too and catering to different tastes (literally) with off field activities ranging from Friday “old bloke lunches” to Sunday afternoon recovery over a good red and cheeses. • Our annual Ladies Lunch in aid of the McGrath Foundation is now sold out and very successful. It’s grown every year and is overflowing onto the deck. Who would have believed how it has grown? • Our U15 Girls again performed very well and followed up last year’s Premiership with a Runners Up, thanks to Gus for managing the team and doing much of the leg work to make it a success. The nature of our club is changing for the good as more and more Women are becoming involved and making their mark. You can see this in action with our vibrant and very happy Milo have a go group on a Friday night. • Without question our off field crew is the envy of every club in the ECA. They take on a big work load to get all our XIs on the field every week, keep our club clean and supplied with food and drink, prepare afternoon teas and generally ensure our club is presented to a high standard – thanks boys! There can’t be too many cricket clubs where the house wine list is so hotly contested or forensically examined. • At last the Mont Albert reserve outfield is returning to the standard it needs to be to match the rest of our facilities and centre , thanks to WCC and Staff for their efforts and attention. Elgar Park is better than ever and much credit belongs to Tim Rossi for his work over a number of years. • Coming up with 5 complete and well balanced teams for every round is a challenge met every time by our Selection Committee led by Richard Barker. Cause and effect here, one reason our numbers have been strong is that in general the selection committee get it right. • Our contribution to the ECA and the wider cricket world has always been strong and took another step forward over the recent past; recent contributions include: o Host Umpires meetings every month during season o Foundation Club, Girls competition o Foundation Club, U18 o Foundation Club ECA Vets (they came to us when things need to get to done) thanks Wayne Harris and Molly. o ECA Vice Pres (Richard Barker) o Manager Representative Cricket (Paul Devine) o Meeting Centre and venue for Emus Cricket & Girls Cricket (becoming a centre for excellence for Cricket in the Eastern Suburbs)

So what didn’t we do so well? • 1st XIs inability to kill off sides after getting into winning positions. Repeatedly during the season we payed the price for this weakness; handing victory to our opponents unnecessarily, and over the course of the season costing ourselves a place in the finals. • The senior playing group is poor at paying annual subscriptions causing the Treasurer far more work than is necessary. We need to find a better way. • Managing our merchandising; our teams all look great in both their 1 and 2 day gear and we look good on the training track, but it comes at too high a price and we can do better with a more disciplined approach. • Capturing sponsorship opportunities is something we traditionally haven’t been good at, despite, in my opinion, being a good sponsorship opportunity. A similar problem is developing non playing Memberships; we can build on the work done on this by Dale Greedy over last Winter.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 11

• We haven’t always selected and managed our overseas player(s) well to ensure that they are able to contribute their best on field and are able to better manage the homesickness bug which seems to bite far too frequently. • More appropriately support our U18s.

What we need to do for next year & the future No doubt we need to fix the above, but we also need to raise our vision and think what might be. • With the regrettable ECA Executive initiative to change to fixturing and increase in one day games for the coming season we must continue to improve our 1 day game and T20 performances. We just don’t do T20 and one cricket consistently well and if we are going to enjoy long term success then we have to make the change. • Continue to improve our preseason. Too often in the past we have given the rest of the competition a start. • Follow through on building new practice facilities. The indications are strong that construction of new facilities will commence in October this year with a possibility of being in use by the end of the coming season. • Recruit a couple of additional high end players so that with our natural improvement our 1 st XI can move from a promising young team to a realistic Premiership chance. • Continue to reward good performances by our young players with promotion through the XIs. • Add a junior XI per season for the next 3 years. We need to strengthen our Junior section. • Review and revitalise our Veterans – We need a youth policy for the Vets! • Ensure our Junior Girls XI continue to grow. • Over the next 3 to 4 years be in a position to field at least 1 Senior Women’s team playing on turf. • With the likely/possible restructure of Turf Cricket; win a 1 st XI Premiership next season and ensure we are playing at the top level and winning 1 st XI premierships repeatedly in whatever new structure emerges. • Deliver a state of the art high definition scoreboard that can be used to promote the club and enrich the game day experience. • Continue to strengthen the branding of our club as not only a great cricket club but also a great place to come to spend time where everyone is made to feel welcome, that provides Cricket for all abilities, ages and genders, where people want to make a contribution either on or off field in a way suited to the abilities and inclination and so be a part of our club.

In summary, I think our club is healthy and vibrant; we are growing in many areas and reaping the rewards that come from the work done by many people repeatedly and without bidding over many years. We should not forget that we are indeed fortunate to be standing on the shoulders of giants and it is our responsibility to ensure that we continue to grow for the future. In Cricket

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 12

THE FIRST XI

After a couple of seasons where we had failed to get off to the desired start, we ensured that the senior group played in two centre wicket battles prior to round 1. Combined with a solid foundation of fitness work at Simon Olives’s Anytime Fitness, pre-season indoor sessions at Xavier College, and the two centre wicket hit- outs, we gave ourselves the best possible preparation to achieve success early in the season – a must in an 11- game fixture.

The boys were excited to meet Bulleen in our round 1 match at home in a one-day clash. We won the toss and elected to bowl on what looked to be a bowler friendly pitch. Sometimes electing to bowl can be a dangerous decision, however after half an hour of play we were assured that it was the right decision, as Bulleen were all bowled out after just 20.3 overs for the miserly total of 54. Andrew Padbury and Tim Hargreaves were sensational, hitting their mark from the outset, taking 5 and 4 wickets respectively. We chased the total comfortably in 17.4 overs, only losing 2 wickets. James Drummond (our overseas player) debuted for the club and top scored with 22 opening the batting. Great to get off to a good start!

After a positive round 1 result, we wanted to continue the momentum as we headed out to Proclamation Park to take on Heathmont. We weren’t playing at their usual home ground due to renovations being done on their ground and pavilion. Winning the toss and bowling again proved to be the right call as Padbury and Hargreaves again took early wickets. We were able to suffocate them in terms of scoring through wonderful line and length bowling on a slowish wicket. Roy Taylor and James Drummond were able to get some reward for their efforts, both claiming 3 wickets apiece to restrict Heathmont to a total of just 73 off 27.5 overs. This gave us the chance to build a solid total on day 1. After losing a couple of early wickets, we consolidated with Jack Joslin and Travis Baker putting on a 143 run third wicket partnership, before Baker held out for a well piled 62. Joslin finished the day 108no as we established a healthy first innings lead over Heathmont. Declaring over night, we sent Heathmont back in and had them on the back foot from the outset, taking continual wicket throughout their second innings. Devine was having a good game in the slips, hanging on to a couple of rippers, while Padbury and Taylor both claimed 3 wickets to bowl out Heathmont in their second innings for 175. We only required 42 runs for outright victory and did it with the loss of only 1 wicket. A great team performance, which would set up our season!

We headed out to East Doncaster for our round 3 clash filled with confidence after our 2 big wins to start the season. We were greeted with a pitch that looked similar to an outfield and lost the toss to surprisingly be told to have a bowl. The pitch was extremely slow and had significant sideways movement, however our bowlers struggled to hit a length that made it awkward for the batsmen. We had them 5/104 just after tea before they put on a 100+ partnership and the pitch started to play like the MCG on day 3 of a test match. We battled with the ball and in the field and were lucky to keep them to a total of 9/270. Hargreaves toiled hard all day to take 3 wickets. We started pretty well with the bat, after losing an initial early wicket to get to 1/82, before Joslin played a rash shot to hold out to a man on the fence for 39, in the last over before tea. 2/82 at tea still had us in the game, as we knew the wicket would flatten out, like the week before. Unfortunately we didn't give ourselves a chance losing regular wickets to be bowled out for 137. Tim Wright tried to hold the innings together with a solid 44. A very disappointing result which meant we had to go back and work hard to ensure a batting collapse like that would not happen again.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 13

Round 4 saw us back at home against the up and coming Donvale side. It was a beautiful day and the pitch looked magnificent, so it wasn't a hard decision when winning the toss to bat. We got off to a great start with Wright and Drummond putting on 68 for the first wicket before Wright lost his wicket for a well piled 47. We then lost 3 quick wickets to be 4/112, before Joslin and McClure came together to steady the ship. They put on 135 partnership for the fifth wicket before McClure was dismissed for a stylish 64. Joslin made his second hundred for the season (102) before going out close to the end of play. A total of 9/269 was a great effort and put us right on top going into day 2. While taking 2 early wickets on the start of day 2, it wasn't a great start as big Hargreaves went down in his third over with a hamstring injury. This was to be the start of what was to be a day to forget for us. We struggled to maintain pressure on their batsmen and to take regular wickets, resulting in them passing our total of 269 only 5 wickets down in the 72 nd over. An extremely disappointing day after what was such a positive day 1. After two great wins to start the season, we were now back in the pack with two disappointing losses on the trot.

Round 5 saw us take on rivals and flag favourites in St Kevins at home. From the outset our bowlers hit their mark and in the intensity in the field was up. Padbury was bowling with venom and was well supported by Taylor who continually beat the bat with his superb line and length. After having them 5/31, 6/62 and 7/76 – there was one man standing in our way of getting them out for less than 100. Their skipper made a fabulous 100 to ensure they produced a total to bowl at – all out 171. Both Padbury and Taylor bowled the house down, taking 4 wickets apiece. This left us with 7 overs to bat on day 1. These 7 overs resulted in us losing 5 wickets and in turn putting us in a disastrous position of 5/24 overnight. We fought hard on day 2 but were bowled out for 68 and were sent in for a second dig. We accumulated 3/99 before play was called for an early finish. After such a positive start to day 1, we lost the game in 7 overs. Some lessons to take out of it moving forward, however we were now in a position of a must win game against Ashburton before the Xmas break.

We headed out to Ashburton to take them on in the last round before long break. Winning the toss and bowling was our decision. We weren’t able to take early wickets however we were able to built pressure and dry up their scoring. This pressure lead to us taking some crucial wickets at important times throughout the day and meant we were able to bowl them out for 190 off 63 overs. Padbury again the chief destroyer with 4/39, and was well supported by Hargreaves and Taylor with 2 each. Having 14 overs to bat was a great opportunity to make a dent into their total. Wright and Blair-Holt whacked them everywhere to be 0/54 overnight. A real positive after our collapse against Skevs. We were extremely confident going into day 2! Throughout the week the forecast looked grim, not because of wet weather, but due to the fact that it had been forecast for mid 40’s. that was the case come Saturday morning and the whole competition was called off – devastating for us as we were is such a good position going into day 2. So that meant we made the turn 2 wins / 3 losses and a draw.

Our first round after Xmas saw us take on Mulgrave at home in a one-day affair. We won the toss on a nice day to send them in. Padbury set the tone once again taking a wicket with his first putting Mulgrave on the back foot. We were able to build pressure and take regular wickets, bowling them out for 116 off 34.5 overs. Padbury took another 4 wickets and was well supported by the young Botswanian Rishab Nagpal who took 3 wickets with his off-spinners. We made hard work of the small total, passing their total in the last over of the day 7 wickets down. No one set the world on fire with the bat, as top score was Joslin with 28. A win was a must and we got the job done. We now looked forward to our next clash verse Surrey Hills.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 14

Round 8 had us at home in another one-day clash against Surrey Hills. Surrey Hills won the toss, batted and put on an opening partnership of 122. We were able to keep pressure on their scoring but taking a few wickets late in their innings and kept them to a total of 6/185 off 40 overs. Hargreaves and Taylor both took 2 wickets. After losing an early wicket Wright and Joslin steadied and both complied 50’s to put Mont Albert in the box seat. Both were unable to go on with it and Surrey Hills put the breaks on our scoring through the middle to late part of the innings. Drummond came in and picked up the run rate to give us a chance, hitting balls to all parts of the ground, but unfortunately we fell 6 runs short, only 5 wickets down. A period of 5 overs between 27 and 32 overs, where we only scored 9 runs cost us the game.

We ventured out to Macleay Park to take on North Balwyn in our round 9 clash. They had started the season well and we needed to be at our best to challenge them. We won the toss and chose to bowl on an overcast day, where the wicket was also a bit damp up one end. From the outset we had North Balwyn on the back foot, with our bowlers who were lead by Padbury (4 wickets) taking regular wickets. He was well supported by Hargreaves (2 wickets) and Baker (3 wickets). There was one bloke standing in our way from dismissing North Balwyn for a extremely low total and his name was Nitesh Patel. He again held their innings together and got hold of us towards the end making a well complied 123no. We had to be happy with the end result, keeping them to a total of 9/204. We knew we had to bat well the next week but if we did we would win the game. We had a buoyant warm up and were prepared for a big chase on day 2. We lost an early wicket but quickly consolidated with Wright (79) and Joslin (83) piling on a 168 second wicket partnership to put the game to bed. McClure hit the winning runs in the 73 rd over to ensure we remained in finals contention. A convincing win!

Round 10 had us back at home against the raining premiers Deepdene. They had been struggling all season with some player leaving and good players out of form. Deepdene won the toss and batted but were behind the eight ball from the start, as our bowlers took regular wickets throughout the first session, eventually bowling them out for 120 in the 69 th over. The spin twins took the chocolates throughout the day and bowled brilliantly in tandem, with Patel taking 3 and young Botsy (Nagpal) taking his first career Dunstan 5-wicket haul. We took 64 overs to chase down the small total of 120 but managed to get there 7 wickets down. Blair- Holt played a confident knock (46) to help us reach the small total. This result put us in the top 4, with one game to go. Destiny was in our hands.

The final round of the season saw us make our way to Rathmines Road Reserve to take on Hawthorn. They won the toss and chose to bat on what looked to be an interesting wicket. Our bowlers once again got to work and put them under pressure, taking 7 early wickets to have them reeling at 7/57. Unfortunately their 8 th wicket partnership knuckled down and our bowlers lost their line and length and they put on 108 for the 8 th wicket. We eventually bowled them out for 173 in the 67 th over. Jackson came back in to the side for the first time this season to snag 4 wickets and was well supported by Padbury and Hargreaves with 2 wickets apiece. We had 10 overs to bat that afternoon and lost Wrighty in the first over, but consolidated to by 1/17 overnight. Day 2 – we just could not get any momentum in our innings and build any substantial partnerships. Blair-holt made a solid 36, however we needed at least one more bloke to make a significant contribution, but it wasn't to be, and we were dismissed for 164 in the 85 th over – 9 runs agonisingly short of a win and first finals birth in 3 years. Devastating end to the season, as we all knew how open this season was and we let an opportunity slip!

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 15

2016/17 Season is time to stand up and take those opportunities that are presented to us!

Kookaburra T20 Competition

The annual ECA T20 competition saw Mont Albert play three matches.

Mont Albert lost to Boroondara 7/135 to 10/122

Mont Albert defeated Old Carey 5/139 to 9/120

Mont Albert lost to North Balwyn 1/130 to 8/128

One win from 4 matches was not good enough by the club and it is evident the club needs to take a different approach to T20 cricket this coming season.

There were some positives that came from the season 2015/16, which were:

- 2nd XI and 3 rd XI won flags. - Junior teams tasted success with some flags. - Junior development at the club is strong and only going to get stronger.

In finalising, as Captain/Coach for the 2015/16 season I want to congratulate Greg Cull and Dale Greedy for their efforts in leading both the 2nds and 3rds to premierships. It was well deserved, great for the players involved and the supporters who put so much time and effort in behind the scenes. I want to thank everyone at the club who makes all players job so much easier with the continual support and jobs done behind the scenes. Your work does not go un-noticed.

To the First XI – we have unfinished business after the disappointing end the 2015/16 season. Bottle that feeling we had after our final game, look at what the 2nds and 3rds were able to achieve, and come ready pre- season for some hard work in preparation for what will be a big 2016/17 season.

Go the Mont’s.

THE SECOND XI – PREMIERS

Reflecting back on the 2015-16 season, it is with great satisfaction that I write this report as a member of a premiership team – the first for the second XI in more than 40 years.

Our season began with a one day game against Heathmont on a Sunday at Mont Albert. We bowled well, dismissing Heathmont for 112 in the 35 th over with Jackson claiming 5/22. In reply, we lost wickets in clumps (3/18 and then 3/4) to be in trouble at 6/46 before Orchard (35*) and Luke Galtieri (31*) combined for a match saving partnership to guide us home with 10 balls to spare.

We met East Doncaster in round 2 and after losing the toss, we were asked to bowl. Jackson continued his early season form claiming 4/18 as we bowled them out for 51 (in 41 overs). We batted out the day to finish ahead at 4/64 (Bonnett 19*) before declaring overnight for an attempt at the outright. East Doncaster showed a lot of fight on day 2 and we were unable to take the 10 wickets required for the outright. Power was the pick of the bowlers on day 2 taking 3/23 in a second innings total of 7/108.

Round 3 saw us play Marcellin at home for the John O’Loughlin Shield. With a bit of rain around, we won the toss and bowled. Marcellin batted well to finish the day all out for 203 (Cull 4/24, Jackson 3/34). Despite heavy rain during the week, we were keen to get a start on day 2 and had the covers down from Monday. On a slow pitch and outfield, a number of batsmen got starts, but we lost consecutive wickets too frequently to be all out for 132 (Bertus 36) in our only loss for the season.

Our bowling stocks were depleted in round 4 with Jackson overseas and Cull filling in for the firsts. Guley was given the responsibility to captain the side and after losing the toss, did an admirable job to contain Donvale to 221 all out. Power relished the opportunity to take the new ball, taking career best figures of 7/49 from his 22 overs. On the big Donvale ground, partnerships were the key to the run chase. Guley (49) and Blair-Holt set the stage with a terrific 130 run partnership for the 3 rd wicket. Blair-Holt continued on to amass 127 and guide the team to a great win with 1 over to spare. His performance meant we didn’t see him again in the 2nds (which meant more party pies for everyone).

Round 5 saw multiple unavailabilities across all teams. In addition to our bowling outs from the week before, we lost Blair-Holt (promoted), as well as Guley and Adgemis who were celebrating Schoolie’s week on the Gold Coast. Harvey Jones became our third captain in as many matches and after winning the toss, we batted our full 80 overs to be 9/223 at the end of play. Most batsmen got starts with Fernandes (47) and Skandakumar (41) the standouts. Richmond City were never in contention as Shahen Patel (4/15) along with Orchard and Power (2 wickets each) restricted them to 93 all out.

Our final match before the break was at home against East Malvern Tooronga. Bowling first on a new wicket, a day 1 result looked possible at 8/80. Some spirited batting from their lower order meant they scratched out another 50 odd runs to reach 136 all out (Power 3/41). We batted the remaining overs to be in a commanding position at 0/18 at stumps, but unfortunately got done by the ‘wet bulb’ on week 2 with all games called off due to extreme heat.

The first of 2 one day games in the new year saw us venture out to Mulgrave Reserve. After losing the toss, we managed to bowl them out for 88 runs (including 18 wides). Ben Galtieri was the star claiming 5/8 from his 8 overs, with Carruthers and Guley chipping in for 2 each. We started shakily, losing 4/36 (and had Guley comatose in the rooms with a migraine) before Nick Adgemis (39*) and ‘Norman’ Bertus (26*) steadied the ship and got us home.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 18

A trek out to Boronia tested the ability of some players to arrive on time. Despite this, we put in one of our better batting performances for the season. Devine opened the batting and made a hard hitting 24 before Guley (54) joined Fernandes (63) at the crease. Their partnership of 107 was a pleasure to watch as they turned the strike, ran well between the wickets and put away the bad ball. We unfortunately lost both players in quick succession leaving Adgemis (31*) and Bertus (15*) to bat the last 10 overs. They did a great job to get us to 4/196 from our 40 overs. We were able to defend the total with some tight bowling and early wickets. Some late order hitting and dropped catches got them within reach, but the game had been set up by our batsmen - Boronia all out 164 (Cull 3/15).

We returned home for a 2 day game against a young North Balwyn outfit. After a reasonable opening partnership from NorthBalwyn,, we took wickets regularly to have them all out for 97 (Patel 4/23, Orchard 3/15). We passed the total comfortably, reaching 8/176 (Guley 55, Adgemis 36) before declaring at tea on day 2 - leaving ourselves 40 overs to achieve the outright result. We created enough opportunities (including patches of 4/1 and 3/0) but missed some chances in the field. The missed chances (and a determined last wicket stand that lasted 14 overs) meant we fell 1 wicket short of achieving the 10 points. Nth Balwyn finished 9/50 from their 40 overs with Jackson and Patel claiming 3 wickets each. Patel finished with match figures of 7/30 from 34 overs including 18 maidens.

The match against Ashwood saw us lose the toss and bowl first yet again. We had them up against it from the start with Jackson bowling superbly. Ashwood rallied with a good middle order partnership before being dismissed for 132 (Jackson 3/11 from 18 overs). Devine and Bonnett negotiated the remaining overs to leave us in a strong position overnight. With a finals berth secured, we set about applying ourselves to bat for a long time rather than chase an outright. After losing Bonnett early, Devine (51) combined with Fernandes in an 82 run partnership that lasted until just before tea. Stragalinos (39*) then joined Fernandes in another 82 run partnership. When Luke played on for a well made 84, we declared our innings at 4/179 with 15 overs remaining.

Our final home and away match saw us play a Hawthorn side full of confidence after 5 wins on the trot. With our opposition in good form and needing a win to make the four, it provided us with a good opportunity to play in finals like conditions. We won the toss and batted on what proved to be a two-paced wicket. Our total of 7/216 was set up by the top order with Jones (23) and Bonnett (57) getting us off to a great start. Guley (62) then capitalised on their good work by making his 3 rd consecutive half century in this grade. We made early inroads with the ball to have Hawthorn reeling at 4/12. They never recovered and we secured the victory with another 10 wicket performance –Hawthorn all out 110 (Power and Patel 3 wickets each).

After a poor batting performance in last year’s semi final, we were determined to redeem ourselves against Boronia and win through to the Grand Final. We won the toss and batted but were in trouble at 2/3 with both openers out. Fernandes and Guley got starts before Adgemis (61) and Stragalinos (31) combined for an important middle order partnership under pressure. Just when we looked like taking the game away from them, we suffered another mini-collapse before Cull (32*) and Jackson (17) combined to get us to 193 all out with 7 balls remaining.

With a strong bowling attack, we were confident of defending our total. We bowled extremely tightly early but were unable to get the breakthrough. Controlling Jackson’s frustration seemed like it would become problematic, as his screams of “haaaaack” were echoed into the crowd. Jones and Power were brought into the attack with immediate success, before Orchard claimed 3 key wickets as Boronia tried to accelerate the run rate. Some late order hitting once again got Boronia within reach, but we were disciplined in our approach

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 19

and restricted them to 149 all out. Jackson sent down 21 overs and was rewarded with some wickets in his second spell. Fuelled by walnuts, grapes and blue cheese, Bertus took a beauty in the slips late in the innings before Jones took the final wicket to earn us a Grand Final berth (Jackson 3/39, Orchard 3/37, Jones 2/2).

After some hard fought wins in the lead up, the side were confident going into the Grand Final against Richmond City. We were lucky enough to play at home and after winning the toss, elected to bat. With a bit in the wicket, we again lost early wickets before Fernandes (24) and Guley (40) led an important recovery. Guley was growing in confidence and looked a class above this grade. Our batting depth was tested against a quality spinner, but we were able to rally with contributions from the middle and lower order (Stragalinos 21, Bertus 20). Our total of 9/172 from 80 overs was certainly defendable on a big ground and slow outfield.

We bowled extremely tightly on day 2 as Richmond City crept to 1/19 from 24 overs. Despite some fielding mishaps, we continued to suffocate them with the ball, restricting them to around 1run per over for the whole day. Orchard continued his semi final form, taking 5/36 from 19 overs to be awarded man of the match. He was well supported by Power (4/23 from 19.4) and Jackson (0/10 from 17) who created great pressure at the start of the innings. In front of a big crowd, Dan Bonnett took the winning catch to dismiss Richmond City for just 91 and the celebrations began!

While our season highlight was obviously our Grand Final win, there were some terrific performances throughout the season and all players made important contributions during the season.

Our bowling group were by far the best in the competition. For the second year running, Power topped the competition with 30 wickets and we had 3 players (Power, Jackson, Cull) who took 20 wickets or more for the season. In addition, Orchard took 19 wickets (8 in finals) and Patel took 18 wickets in just 5 matches. The side took 27 more wickets than any other team in the home and away season and took all 10 wickets (or more) in every match we played. We bowled 298 maidens – 35% of the overs bowled.

Our batting is improving each year and with experience and maturity, we are seeing some more consistent performances. Guley and Fernandes both had terrific seasons, each making more than 275 runs in the 2 nd XI. They were both rewarded with first XI selection throughout the season. Nick Adgemis also made in excess of 200 runs and his 61 under pressure in the semi final was match winning. Nick Stragalinos scored more than 300 runs between the 2 nd and 3 rd XIs and played some important innings, especially in both finals.

I would like to thank James Guley and Harvey Jones for captaining the side in my absence. The advice and support of both players, along with Howard Bertus and Paul Devine, was of great help to me on match day. Our younger players appreciated Howard’s advice (on batting and broccoli) and it was fitting that he finished his career (for now) with a premiership.

I am grateful for the opportunity to captain this side. Thanks to Peter Knox as President, Rick Barker as Chairman of Selectors and Jack Joslin for their ongoing support. Congratulations to all the players who represented the 2 nd and 3 rd XIs throughout the season. Our dual premiership is one we can all treasure.

GO MONTS! Greg Cull

THE THIRD XI – PREMIERS

Wow what can I say. Premiership in your first year as Captain, doesn’t get much better than that! It was so good to go one step further from the disappointing loss the previous year. The boys played great consistent cricket all throughout the year and made my job so easy, that even a plant could have captained this team to a premiership.

So just to summarize a few highs of the season for the batters:

- Some great batting performances from Nic Stragalinious who bludgeoned some of the attacks all over the park and deservingly was promoted and finished the year in the 2’s. - Rick Barker had a great start to the year, but saved his best for the end with a brilliant man of the match performance in the Grand Final. - Congrats to Harvey Jones for hitting his first six, although it was at Elgar… - And who could forget Nick Westerman’s ramp shot during the Grand Final! - Also a special highlight chasing down Deepdene’s 246 by one wicket, I can still hear the ball as it echoed off Tim Fenton’s bat for six to win the game! - And….500 plus runs from the Captain (plus 17 wickets) what a performance!!! (added by Rick Barker, Dale is much too modest)

All our bowlers were incredibly consistent all year, we had the best bowling attack in the competition. But I should mention a few standouts:

- Ben Galtieri was incredible taking out the bowling award with some amazing performances taking 3 for 8, and 4 for 5 against East Malvern Tooronga to name a couple. - Bobby C was in fine form, you always knew you could give him the ball to take you a wicket. - Charlie Thorn bowled the house down all year, and deserved to take more wickets than he did but he was just too good for the batsmen. - Tim Noble always bowled a good line and was never easy to score against, he also deserved to take more wickets. - And lastly, a special mention to Dakshil, whose bowling took a new level towards the end of the season, including 3 for 13 in the Grand Final. - Our only problematic moment of the season was our one, and only loss, to the eventual grand finalists, which I feel was a really good wakeup call for me, and the rest of the boys.

It was my most memorable season of cricket both personally and as a team. The thing that stood out to me most was the teamwork, it was never up to one or two players, we played as team and I believe that it is this that took us to a Premiership.

A special thanks to Barks, for all your help. I couldn’t have made it through the year without your continued support. I can’t wait to come back and do it all again next season.

Go Monts!!!

THE FOURTH XI

A season of two halves. One win to Christmas and (nearly) only one loss after Christmas! You need luck to play finals with that record and the Cricket Gods didn't smile on the Fourth eleven this year. Despite that and an outright win last game would have placed us in the finals, it was a season of 'ifs' and 'if onlys'. But my key message for season 15/16 is .... It was also a season of great fun - particularly the second half. With a young list of developing players who enjoyed many laughs and good cricket.

So without a score book in front of me, here is my list of highlights (with apologies to the players I have missed.) from our core group of fourth eleven players.

- Dan “B&F” Bernadone. Batting and bowling average nearly says it all. It doesn't tell you what a wonderful young man he is. Great Temperament. A pleasure to have in the team and captain. He was our go to man for a tight spell and a wicket. Not to mention some handy runs and a ton! - Ravi “can't stop talking” Sharma. Can turn a game (and did) with his batting. Some awesome innings. Ravi’s passion for the contest is great. Ravi just needs to decide if he wants to channel and CONTROL his passion for good or bad? While his 'send off' at Hawthorn will go down in MACC folklore, it's not what we want to see. Will Ravi be the team leader he's capable of? I think so. Next season will be interesting to see. - Jack “could be anything” woods. His 75 run innings was class. With a promotion thirds promotion at a young age. A big future for Jack. - Jordan “can play” Dean. A quality offie. Loop and temperament. Smart batsman too. Understands the game. - Ash (Mildura connection) Tonn. Couldn't get a better Club man let alone team man. Nothing to much trouble and brings something to each game. - Ben (Thanks for the magic moments mate) Chipp. 125 n.o. last game against quality 2nds bowling was a terrific innings. Could be a breakthrough. Ready to step up and enjoying the game. (Maybe the overseas break helped but would have liked him on team for first half season) - Michael (Spoons) Kitching. In battle in the field, you'd have Michael at your side any day. His fielding and effort was a standout. He's a better bat than performances show. Patience and play within your limitations. One big score and Michael may indeed break through. - Amit (The Motivator) Bansal. Gold. Competitive animal. Brings something to the contest. Nothing too much trouble. Will stand within a foot of the batsman if you asked him. Biggest price in his wicket alongside Jimmy Wright. And if you're looking for a motivational theme for a game, Amit is your man, dishing up 'This could be the greatest victory this team has ever seen'. I used his stuff on more than one occasion. - Jimmy (THE PROCESS) Wright. Value to any team and great to play with. Put him in to bat. Throw him the ball. 100%. His opening innings against finalists Hawthorn on w difficult track set up the game. And most importantly. Great FUN. - Molly (can I have the scorebook) and Hal (Line and Length) Jones. Wonderful members of the team. Unfortunately, injuries were problematic but I echo the sentiments of our younger players, the value and gravitas they bring to MACC fourth eleven is gold. - AB. The run machine (and handy offie) Another senior player who rounds out the mix. If AB was any more laid back he's be in a coffin. But his understanding of the game and dry humour is value to any captain.

- Finally, Tom (Disco) Negri. Had a great season 2015/16 in the night clubs. His batting average was inversely proportionate to his nightclub and girlfriend visitations. Always good to have in the team. Had a few nice cameos. Just want to see the class player he is come back to the fore next season. A big thank you to all the players who contributed throughout the season.

As you get older you really do appreciate each game like it's your last. Thank you to the Committee for backing me again. It was once again a real joy and privilege to play and lead this team. I think we played as we said we would. Hard, fair and fun cricket.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 27

THE FIFTH XI

The 2015-16 season was a season of ups and downs. The competition was fairly even and our finals chances came down to the last game of the season. Unfortunately we were not quite good enough and we lost our last game, finishing in the middle of the ladder. It was problematic that we did not make the top four, which sadly echoed our performance the previous year.

Nevertheless, there were a number of excellent batting performances during the year. Brad Woolhouse made 110 and fifties were made by Tom Richards, Brad Woolhouse, Wayne Harris, Harry Davis, Jim Alexander, Ben Cook and Alan Burton. The evergreen Wayne Harris proved a consistent performer in the middle lower order, often getting 20 or 30 runs when the pressure was on.

It was very pleasing to see Luke Pich’s hard work during the season pay off when he walked away with the bowling trophy in April. He trained hard during the season and was well rewarded. His best bowling for the season was 4/13 which is sensational in the one day competition. However, the best figures for the season went to Ben Cook who snared 5/32. Well done, Ben! It is also worthwhile to mention that Brad Woolhouse proved that he could not only bat but was also a useful bowler: he consistently picked up a couple of wickets when he bowled.

Numbers were inconsistent this year. We played a number of games with fewer than the regulation eleven. However, this created the opportunity for a number of junior players to make their debut in the seniors, and this resulted in a personal highlight for me, when Quentin McLean, filling in from the U14, captured his first senior wicket, caught A. McLean. I would like to thank the senior players of the 5ths for making the junior players feel so welcome and included as part of the team. This is a particular strength of our club.

I would also like to thank Tim Rossi and Wayne Harris who helped to find players on Thursday night, Friday night and even Saturday morning and for all of the other ways they helped during the season. I would like to thank Rick Barker as chairman of selectors and thank Jack, Roger, Peter and KR for organising drinks and cups each Saturday morning. Lastly, I would like to thank my wife, Fiona, who lets me go outside and play on Saturday afternoon.

Windisch, Samuel J 3 11.0 0 0 59 0 0 Thorn, Harry C 2 11.0 0 0 71 0 0 VETERAN’S REPORT

Once more Mont Albert had four veterans sides, 2 in the >50’s playing in the Box Hill Reporter competition, and two in the >40’s playing in the new Eastern Cricket Association competition. Numbers, while better than last year were still an issue for us all year, and we were forced to default a couple of games.

Reds (>40 Division 1) The Reds were in Division 1. They started off away v Kew in round 1, who won the toss and batted scoring 7/155 with Mark Dunning taking 3/13 off 6 and Chris Diazkis taking 2/15 off 5. The Reds were never in it scoring 96 all out with Chris McEvoy top scoring with 24. Round 2 was at home v Deepdene. Batting first we scored 7/122 with Chris Dunning scoring 30 and Allen Burton 28. Deepdene got there 6 down with 3 overs to spare, with Phil Avery the stand out bowler with 2/14 off 6. Round 3 saw us away to Notting Hill-Brandon Park, who won the toss, and inserted us. We scored 9/136 with Phil Avery scoring 37. NHBP got there fairly easily in 28 overs, 4 down. Round 4 we were home to Boroondara, won the toss and batted first. We scored 5/129 with Phil Avery scoring 40no and Rob Grumont 32. Boroondara got there after 32 overs 5 down, Jeff Mollison taking 2/3 off 3. Round 5 was away to Marcellin OC in the last game before Xmas. Marcellin batted first scoring 161. Lachie Thompson took 2/18 off 6, while Phil Avery took 2/21 off 5. In the best batting effort of the year we scored 3/164 with Phil Avery scoring 43no, Aaron White 43no, and Rob Elliot 28. First win of the season achieved. After Xmas we were away to Clifton Hill, winning the toss and batting first. We scored 7/154 with Rob Elliot top scoring with 29. Clifton Hill got there fairly easily, with Jarrod Schonfelder taking 2/31. Finally we faced Surrey Hills at home. We scored 7/124 with Allen Burton scoring 40no and Chris Dunning scoring 34. Surrey Hills got there after 33 overs.

All in all a tough season in a grade too high, with only one win to show for it, and 7 th place in the table. We will definitely drop a grade next year. Stand out performer was skipper Phil Avery who won the batting and bowling awards, and who was the best player across all the veteran sides. Thanks to Chris Dunning for managing the side, Phil Avery for captaining, and to all for participating.

Golds (>40 Division 2) The Golds struggled for numbers in round 1 and ended up forfeiting, a disappointing start to the season. In round 2 we were away to Bulleen, and scored 9/122 with Jim Alexander top scoring with 27, and Wayne Harris 25. The game was in the balance at drinks, but Bulleen ended up getting there after 29 overs, Craig Arbuthnot took 2/3 off 6, and Jason Harvey 2/18 off 3. The next game was at home to North Balwyn, who batted first and scored 6/216, exposing the lack of depth in our bowling. We scored 9/169 with Jon Docking scoring 34 and Tim Norris 32. Next we faced Mazenod on their all artificial field. Mazenod batted first scoring 5/204. We could only score 144 with stand in captain Brad Woolhouse top scoring with 37. In our final game before Xmas we faced Burwood at home. Batting first we scored 7/174 with Tim Norris 29, Brad Woolhouse 43no, and JonDocking 40no. It didn’t prove to be enough as Burwood scored 7/178 with Nick Hart taking 3/11. After Xmas in round 6 we faced Surry Hills at home. Batting first we scored 9/207 with HarvinderBedi scoring 38, Jon Docking 26, Tim Norris 32 and Wayne Harris 29. Surrey Hills were cruising to victory before they fell just short, Brad Woolhouse taking 2/12 off 6, Nick Hart 2/16 off 5, and Jon Docking 2/27 off 6, a very good victory. Finally we were back at Mazenod on the artificial ground for the second time in the season to finish. Mazenod batted first scoring 3/227, and we followed with 8/195, Geoff Latimer scoring 40no, and Brad Woolhouse 44no. While we finished bottom, and will drop a grade next year, the team had good fun on and off the field. Batting award was won by Jon Docking, bowling by Nick Hart. Thanks to Jim Alexander for captaining, and all for participating.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 31

Purples (>50 A Division) Round 1 was against Eley Park, and batting first they scored 7/170 with Con Fernandes taking 2/22. In reply the Purples scored 5/171with Wayne Hawkins scoring 41no, and Michael Wilton 28, a first up win. Next was Mitcham at Mitcham. We batted first scoring 7/166 with Wayne Hawkins scoring 41no and Dave Corrigan 44no. Mitcham won with 7/171, Tom Siebel 2/21 and Marco Negri 2/29. Next was our first home game against Wonga Park. They batted first scoring 6/157, Bruce Wilson taking 2/13. This proved too much as we were bowled out for 119 with Wayne Hawkins scoring 35. Next was West Ivanhoe United away. We scored 4/127 with only 9 players, Wayne Harris scoring 41no and Andrew Youren scoring 40no. With our lack of numbers we weren’t able to defend WIU scoring 1/130. The final game before Xmas was at home against Ainslie Park. Ainslie Park batted first scoring 7/135. Bruce Wilson took 3/17 off 6, and Marco Negri took 3/6 off 6. Our batting wasn’t up to scratch scoring 9/98 with Wayne Hawkins the only batsman to provide resistance scoring 43no. The first match after Xmas saw us at home against East Ringwood. ER batted first being all out for 119, Matthew Pini took 3/9 off 6, Bruce Wilson 3/24 off 6 in a fine all round bowling effort. In an impressive batting effort we got there 3 down with Chris Riseley scoring 40no, and Tom Siebel 42no. Finally we played away at Canterbury where we scored 144 with Dave Corrigan scoring 28, and Geoff Simkiss 26. Canterbury got there on the last wicket with Bruce Wilson 2/23 off 6, And Marco Negri 2/30 off 6.

Wayne Hawkins won the batting award, and Bruce Wilson the bowling. Thanks to Dave Corrigan for captaining and Marco Negri for managing, and all for participating.

Greens (>50 C Division) First up our Greens were at home against North Balwyn. We won the toss and batted first scoring 7/138, Peter Ashton scoring 40no, and Ralph Hadden 26. North Balwyn scored 4/142 in reply to get home comfortably. The next game saw us at home against the Box Hill North Super Kings. They batted first scoring 5/257 after a hard day in the field. This proved too difficult scoring 8/145 in reply with Rick Western 29 and Peter Ashton 40no. We are still trying to work out how the BHNSK’s are in C Division. We must have been scarred from that loss as we couldn’t field a team for the next round. Next we were up against Canterbury at home. We batted first scoring a respectable 4/174, with Peter Ashton scoring 40no, Leigh Denning 41no, and Rick Western 40no. Canterbury managed to get the runs in the 34 th over to record the win. In the final game before Xmas we played Mitcham at Mitcham. They batted first scoring 9/155 as a result of an impressive MA bowling effort with Rick Western taking 4/21 off 6, and 3/26 off 6. To complete a good win we scored 4/161with 4 overs to spare with Bede Dempsey scoring 40no, Peter Ashton 31, and Rick Western 34. After Xmas we faced North Balwyn away. They batted first scoring 9/204, Michael Spink took 4/15 off 5, and Patrick Grant 2/16 off 3. We gave the chase a good shake scoring 6/194 with Ralph Hadden scoring 40no, Leigh Denning 30, Henk Van Kruining 36 and Rick Western 41no. Finally we had the pleasure of playing the Box Hill North Super Kings (again). They batted first and in a much better effort we held them to 6/183 with Leigh Denning taking 4/28 off 6, and Luke Pich 2/5 off 3. We gave it a crack scoring 6/166 with Leigh Denning capping a great game with 43no and Michael Spink 44no. Batting was won by Peter Ashton and Bowling by Luke Pich. Finally thanks to Peter Ashton for captaining, Ralph Hadden for managing, and all for participating.

The challenge for next season is to work out whether to continue with 4 teams, or reduce to three, a change I’m reluctant to make as once I drop a team we will struggle to get it back.

Wayne Harris

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 37

JUNIORS REPORT

As was the case with every season preceding it, season 15/16 snuck up on us all like the proverbial snake in the grass. AFL grand Final one week, round 1 of cricket the week after. However, as is always the case, both players & parents were suited up raring to go as soon as the goal posts were removed and those synthetic pitches uncovered.

An undoubted highlight of each season is attending the 1 st official U10 training session. With pads, gloves, helmets and of course the ‘Box’ being foreign objects too many. Note to prospective U10 parents that the ’box’ should only ever be worn for which it’s intended & not as a chin or elbow protector. Under the guidance of Phil Woods & Dani Hedley, this fine young group showed some magnificent improvements during the season. A 1 st class effort from all involved both on & off the park. Managing 17 individual’s aged 7-9 weekly is a task not for the feint hearted and I’d like to thank & congratulate each family on their contribution to our U10 team in 2015/2016.

Tough year for our U12’s. An awkward registration number of 16 meant we had to make the late call to only submit 1 side for the season. This was magnified buy the really tough decision to enter the side into the 12A competition. In hindsight we may have been better served in B, but I’d also like to think that the experience gained by all boys will hold them in good stead for coming seasons. Bearing in mind 95% will back for another crack at U12 cricket in 16/17. Importantly the boy’s stuck together during a tough year and Coach Paul Mallett should be congratulated on a job well done. Thank you also to our team managers. Deb Guilmartin & Jane Dixon.

Pleasantly, we were able to comfortably field 2 U14 sides for the season. The A team lead by James Guley and ably supported by Lynda Schade as Team Manager. The C team was coached by Dan Bonnett with great support from Stu Richardson as TM. A tough gig for the A’s with a predominantly bottom age list. They showed some good signs and will be up & ready to go for season 16/17. The C’s to were mainly bottom age and had a very successful season under Dan. A number of boys were able to push into the A team at different points in the season and as a group they performed solidly all year. A narrow semi final loss was disappointing for those involved on the night but overall the boys were rapt to have played some finals cricket. A real sense of team & camaraderie was evident amongst this group of boys. Well done to all involved.

Again numbers led to only 1 U16 side being fielded. Despite an awkward number (16) the talent here is unquestioned. With 14 being bottom age the side was entered into the B com with high hopes. This was backed up by the boys, only losing 1 of there H&A games and finishing on top of the table. A home semi final beckoned & again a comfortable victory was attained. Unfortunately, past glories count for little on GF day and the boys were humbled by Boroondara on the day. Some great signs however, most will be back for a crack at the 16A flag in 16/17 and the development of some of the ‘lesser lights’ was most pleasing to veteran coach & MACC stalwart Paul Devine. The U18 comp has gathered some real momentum since it’s introduction 3 seasons ago. As the only premiership winner MACC looked to build on previous successes. Despite some ups & downs on the field and a couple of errors off it, the team was able to perform at it’s best when it mattered most and duly collected premiership number 3 at the expense of Burwood. A big thank you to Ben Galtieri for captaining the team, also to Bots & Paddy Matthews for ensuring our side was on the park each week.

MACC 2015-16 Annual Report 38

MACC are proud to have a junior girls team entered in the ECA girls competition. A huge thanks to Gus McLean for his coaching and development of all the girls. The team was very successful and made it through to the GF. The most pleasing aspect was the interest shown from the girls and the overall improvement of both individuals and the team as a whole.

On behalf of the club I would like to congratulate all our junior ECA representatives for Season 2015/16. Again, many juniors were able to represent Mont Albert at senior level. This is crucial to the ongoing success of the club.

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful junior families. In particular the following people who coached, assisted coach’s or team managed: Phil Woods, Dani Headly, Paul Mallet, James Guley, Paul Devine, Deb Guilmartin, Jane Dixon, Lynda Schade, Daniel Bonnett, Stuart Richardson. Magnificent contributions from each of you, thank you very much.
