University of Oregon Neighborhood Parking Overview University of Oregon Neighborhood Parking Overview PARKING: All teams and spectators are advised that parking availability surrounding the University of Oregon is restrictive. Street parking is limited to 1 or 2‐hour parking zones and meters. Unauthorized vehicles in University parking lots will be issued citations and towed. Both the City of Eugene and the University of Oregon will be strictly enforcing parking. See map below for specifics. For additional information, visit – University of Oregon – http://parking.uoregon.edu City of Eugene – https://www.eugene‐or.gov/1930/Campus‐Area‐Daily‐Parking‐Rates Columbia Garage – the University of Oregon strongly urges all spectators to park in Columbia Garage located adjacent to Matt Knight Arena on East 13th Avenue. o Monday – Friday $2 per hour from 6am to 6pm. After 6pm $1 / hour. Daily Maximum $12. o Saturday – Sunday $1 per hour from 6am to 8pm. Daily Maximum $8. o There is no overnight parking in the garage. o Hourly rates vary, see http://parking.uoregon.edu for more info. Meter Parking and Pay‐To‐Park Lots – The university has meters located around campus at $2 per hour. Meters accept VISA, MasterCard, quarters, and payment through www.parkmobile.com. In pay to park lots 17, 29A, East 15th Ave, and Lot 15, hourly parking is available at $2.00 per hour. U.S. Bills, VISA, and MasterCard accepted. Exact change required. Visitor permits are also valid in Pay‐to‐Park lots (Lot 15 excluded). Visitor Permit Parking Visitor permits are valid in most campus lots and are sold at the Department of Parking and Transportation for $10 per day. Overnight visitor permits, valid in designated overnight lots, are also available for purchase for $15 per 24‐hour period. Visitor permits are offered in two convenient options. One‐time permits are more flexible because they do not have to be purchased for a specific day. The permit may be purchased in advanced and not used until needed. Multi‐day permits may only be used for the date range specified at time of purchase, but are more convenient if you are parking for multiple days in a row. SHUTTLE INFORMATION: Shuttle Schedule In an effort to alleviate parking frustrations the OSAA will be providing a shuttle between Autzen Stadium and Hayward Field for the Track and Field State Championships. The shuttle is available to participating teams and spectators at no cost. The shuttle will operate on one half hour intervals from the South Gate of Autzen Stadium to the Participant / Spectator Gate on Agate Street which is located at the south end of Hayward Field. Hours of Operation: Thursday, 9am – 7:30pm Friday, 8am – 10:30pm Saturday, 8am – 6:30pm. To access parking closest to the South Gate of Autzen Stadium those choosing the shuttle option should use Entry 5 off of Leo Harris Parkway and proceed to the south end of the Autzen Stadium Lot. ADA PARKING Permanent ADA spots will be located on Columbia Street and inside the parking garage. Columbia Street, in front of the west arena doors, will be used as overflow parking. ADA parking is also located on 15th Avenue west of Agate and on Agate Street These spaces are first‐come‐first‐serve with appropriate license plate or hang tag.     © Copyright 12/1/2017 Phil Sutton The Other Bill By Phil Sutton, OTC member Special to the Oregon Track Club Track and field fans know the names Bill Bowerman and Bill Dellinger. They both made their mark on the sport while coaching at the University of Oregon. Well, there was another “Bill” in sports at the University of Oregon. Bill Hayward coached at the UO for 44 years (yes, over four decades!). He was Oregon’s first full time track coach. He laid the foundation for the University Oregon’s track and field program and molded it into a national powerhouse. He is considered the grandfather of today’s Duck program. Historic Hayward Field is named in his honor. William Louis Heyward was born in 1868 in Detroit, Michigan. His last name was Heyward with an “e” but he changed the spelling to Hayward in the early 1890’s. His father was English and his mother Canadian. When Bill was ten, his parents moved to Peru to manage a rubber plantation. They left Bill, his brother and three sisters with grandparents. They raised the children for the next ten years, first in Detroit and then in Toronto, Canada. As a young man Bill lived in Vancouver, Canada. He was employed as a fireman in one of the city’s firehouse brigades. Bill and his wife also owned a fruit and cigar stand. The photo of Bill Hayward above was taken in the 1940's.     The goal of this column is to describe a route/location, and let you know in my opinion if it’s all it’s cracked up to be. So if you have a favorite running route, let me know by contacting ORRC at [email protected] and I’ll give it a try. Pre’s Trail, Eugene, OR The trail forms a kind of figure eight, and if you run the full loop it’s a little over 4 miles around, although you can add an out and back portion near the I-5 overpass that extends it to almost 6 miles. And what I like most is that it’s all a nice soft surface (bark dust/chipped wood) so even though it’s a trail, it’s the kind of trail I like (not technical at all and wide enough to run side-by-side), and I could run on it forever. However, if dirt trails aren’t your cup of tea, there are sections of the trail that parallel bike paths so you have your choice of surface for some portions. The only thing you have to worry about if you run on the trails is getting your shoes cleaned up afterward. Is it a safe place to run? I ran this trail on a weekend morning, and there were so many people that I felt very comfortable in terms of safety. However, if I was running in the evening, or early morning, I’d probably feel more comfortable running with a friend, simply because it can feel a little isolated in some areas (particularly near the I-5 overpass).
