  • Opening Statement, Lynne Embleton, CEO, Aer Lingus
Supplemental Aer Lingus Opening Statement to Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications Committee – 22nd June 2021 Introduction Thank you for the opportunity to engage - once again - with the Transport and Communications committee. I will assume you have read the Aer Lingus opening statement which was originally due to be delivered on 2nd June. On this basis I won’t read that statement but everything in it still stands. I would however like to briefly supplement it to highlight some specific issues that need to be addressed urgently. Stobart Stobart Air informed Aer Lingus on 11th June that they were ceasing to trade with immediate effect resulting in the cancellation of all Aer Lingus Regional flights operated by Stobart Air. Stobart attributed this decision to the continuing impact of the pandemic which has resulted in almost no flying since March 2020. Aer Lingus stepped in immediately to operate six routes until at least the end of August and arranged for BA City Flyer to operate four of the routes. The provision of this replacement schedule has ensured that all impacted customers due to travel in the immediate term were offered alternative travel arrangements. Aer Lingus also confirmed that we are ready to operate the Dublin / Kerry route, subject to an appropriate PSO arrangement being put in place and that we are actively exploring options that would enable the provision of a Dublin / Donegal service. Aer Lingus and other key stakeholders in the aviation sector have consistently warned that Ireland’s 15-month long implementation of the most restrictive travel policies in Europe without sector specific supports being provided, represented a critical risk to aviation jobs and to connectivity.

  • UK Office July 2020 TDC Report Prepared By: Venessa Alexander UK Director
UK Office July 2020 TDC Report Prepared by: Venessa Alexander UK Director Tour Operators Trailfinders – We spoke with Rachel Webb, Destination Manager for Florida at Trailfinders and were advised that the Trailfinders Product team and other non-customer facing departments continue to work from home. But I'm pleased to say that, in a step towards normality, their travel centres in England, Wales and Ireland have re-opened their doors to their clients again, with all the necessary precautions in place, and their 3 travel centres in Scotland were set to re-open again at the beginning of July. They have now taken the decision to cancel all US departures up to 1 Aug 20 and Rachel suspects more will be cancelled beyond this. The company strategy very much remains to encourage their clients to re-book rather than cancel and as they get more product on sale, they are seeing more success. They continue to be able to book flights out of range. However, there are still gaps in their programme if their contact has been furloughed so they are having trouble securing a contract. Their receptive partners are also facing similar difficulties securing rates and then having the resources available to load. While they’ve seen a lot of interest in Florida as a whole, much of the business is being driven to Orlando where much product is on sale to the end of 2021 or, in some cases, into 2022. Currently, there's not the same amount of product on sale as usual in St Pete/Clearwater so the numbers booking are much smaller.

  • Moray Hostel in a Different Class
MBE Director of Findhorn Village Centre, Christine Hunt, and VisitScotland Regional Director, Jo Robinson in front of the hostel Jan 11, 2017 14:16 GMT Moray hostel in a different class A volunteer-run hostel,in the heart of the village of Findhorn, has doubled its VisitScotland star rating. Findhorn Village Hostel, which was converted from an old school, has gone from a two-star to a four-star accommodation provider under the national tourism organisation’s Quality Assurance (QA) scheme after making a number of improvements. The QA scheme is a benchmark for quality across the tourism industry and operates across accommodation, visitor attractions and food sectors. The coastal accommodation, which opened in 2000, received a two-star grading in 2014 but has since been committed to development. A massive refurbishment took place in May which included a new kitchen and living room as well as the installation of double glazing. An excellent new website has been created and improvements have also been made to the hostel’s booking process. Along with two members of staff, these changes are largely down to the community spirit of the village, with around 20 locals volunteering their services. All of the hard work has been rewarded with the four-star accreditation. Now open all year round, and with an annexe being opened in January, Findhorn Village Hostel offers excellent accommodation for those exploring the Moray coast. Justina Baltakyte, the hostel’s Marketing Manager, said: “We are extremely pleased to be given this four-star QA award. The team and volunteers have worked very hard so it’s great to receive this recognition and see that our efforts have paid off.” Jo Robinson, Regional Director at VisitScotland, said: “I would like to congratulate everyone at Findhorn Village Hostel on their four- star QA award.
