Karnataka launches mid-day meals scheme for pregnant women The Karnataka Chief Minister has launched the Mathru Poorna scheme meant to meet the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating mothers. The scheme provides free mid-day meals for 25 days in a month to pregnant and lactating women in rural areas. These meals will be served at the anganwadis in the villages. Madurai’s Meenakshi Temple Named Best ‘Swachh Iconic Place’ in India The Madurai City Corporation is set to receive a special award from the Centre as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple has been adjudged best ‘Swachh Iconic Place’ in India as on October 1. Ten spots were identified by the Central Government as part of the ‘Swachh Iconic Places’ initiative earlier this year.
