This time, I want to focus on some Asian musicians that have been underrated by American Pop Culture. 1. Born in Singapore, 39 JJ Lin has lots of success in the music industry since his debut in 2003. The pentalingual singer has won many awards including the Golden Melody Award and he plays piano, guitar, drums, and harmonica. His hard work has paid him back fairly. 2. G.E.M Get Everybody Moving is the common nickname for Tang Tsz Kei who is considered a superstar musician in Mainland China and she is trying to gain popularity in the western music markets. Respondents say her vocal range is fantastic and it may be better than western pop. 3. Lea Salonga came from the Flipinos and she played the voice of Mulan in the 1998 film Mulan. She started music at a young age and she reached stardom in a short time period. Even now, she seeks to improve herself and support others and her vocal range is considered exceptional. 4. Li Yundi is a Classic Pianist in Mainland China and is arguably one of the most talented artists. He won a Chopin Piano Award at the age of 18 in the year 2000. Li Yundi takes his musical career seriously and fits every note into every second. 5. Yui is a top star and she receives most of her likes in her home country of Japan. Her music appeared in some Anime episodes and respondents say her voice is soft but has a rock attitude. Her concerts usually result in maximum capacity especially in Japan’s Primate Cities. 6. Ji Hae Park is a South Korean Violinist and like many other violinists, Ji Hae Park knows how to touch souls with her violin. Besides having a wide scale and range of violin music, she is also an advocate for mentally disabled people which impacts the style of her music in some ways. 7. Fatin Shidqia is an Indonesian singer who rose to fame after winning the first season of The X Factor and her music hits the top notch on Indonesian Apple Music. She also won five AMI rewards with the latest being awarded in 2017. 8. Lang Lang is considered a Piano Prodigy in Mainland China and he won his first competition at the age of five and started classes with the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music at the age of 12. He has played with the Berlin/Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras and many other American orchestras. 9. Hoang Thuy Linh is considered a Multi-Talent Star in Vietnam and she acts and sings for a living. Her music combines Vietnamese folk music with Western Pop and her music videos are presented in modern styles. 10. Shreya Ghoshal is considered to be India’s Heart and she has many awards under her belt and her music appears in Bollywood films. Over the years, she toured the United Kingdom and United States and she became the first Indian singer to have her wax figurine put on display in Madame Tussauds Museum. https://www.thethings.com/asian-musicians-k-pop-idols/ https://asianacircus.com/music-from-asia/ NFL Draft By Nikhil Jain This year’s draft was one to remember. As expected, Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson went number one overall. This had been the prediction for a very long time. Zach Wilson out of BYU went 2nd to the Jets and surprisingly Trey Lance went 3rd to the 49ers. The Vikings traded down from 14 to 23 and still got the player they wanted in Christian Darrisaw. He is an OT who will help the vikings biggest weakness, offensive line. Overall, I would say that the draft was very entertaining and it helped that the Vikings made some good moves. I can’t wait to see the new guys in action in September. UCL Final By Nikhil Jain The biggest match in club soccer is coming up very soon as Chelsea will take on Manchester City in the Champions League Final. Both these teams are English clubs. Chelsea’s season seemed to be a failure after all the new signings until a manager change turned it all around. Now, they are playing to be champions of Europe. However, they are facing the heavy favorites Manchester City. With their new signing of Ruben Dias, City have looked nearly unbeatable when at full strength. They already clinched the Premier League Title. The UCL final will be great to watch but my money is on City to pull it out..

THURSDAY, JUNE 11, 2015 Music LIFE! C9 2000s: Then and now Musicians who lead in the classical scene Paige Lim Over the years, many Singaporean classical musicians who studied abroad have remained over- seas to pursue their careers. Renowned violinist Chan Yoong-Han and pianist Lim Yan are among the rare few who have returned here to develop their careers. And over the past 10 or more years, the pair have made waves in the local classical music scene. Besides being members of popular piano quintet Take 5, both have played as soloists with the Singa- pore Symphony Orchestra and performed in inter- national music festivals. Life! classical music reviewer Chang Tou Liang calls them “two of the most active and busiest classical musicians” in Singapore today. “They are leaders in their fields and figures whom young Singaporean musicians can relate to and emulate,” he says. Both musicians came to prominence in the 2000s after returning to Singapore from their over- seas studies. A graduate from Rice University in the United States in 1995, Chan, 40, was awarded the 2000 Shell-NAC Arts Scholarship by the National Arts Council. He then completed his masters of music at the University of Massachusetts. In 2007, he was appointed concertmaster for the Singapore Festival Orchestra, the resident orches- tra of the Singapore Arts Festival which ended in 2012. Lim, 35, the nephew of well-known conductor Lim Yau, was the first Singaporean to play in the 12th Singapore International Piano Festival in 2005. He made history again when he became the Violinist Chan first Singaporean pianist to perform all five Yoong-Han About Sing50 Beethoven piano concertos in a cycle here in 2012.

Locating Identity: Narratives of Ethnic and Racial Identity Experiences of Asian American Student Leaders of Ethnic Student Organizations Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master of Arts in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Annabelle Lina Estera Graduate Program in Education The Ohio State University 2013 Thesis Committee: Dr. Susan Robb Jones, Advisor Dr. Tatiana Suspitsyna Copyright by Annabelle Lina Estera 2013 Abstract The purpose of this constructivist narrative study was to explore how Asian American student leaders of ethnic student organizations (ESOs) experience their ethnic and racial identities in the context of their ESO and the classroom. The primary research questions guiding this study were: (a) How do Asian American student leaders of ESOs experience and make sense of their ethnic and racial identities within the context of their involvement with their ESO; (b) How do Asian American student leaders of ESOs experience and make sense of their ethnic and racial identities within the classroom? Data collection included semi-structured interviews with six participants. Data was analyzed through Clandinin and Connelly’s “three dimensional narrative inquiry space” (2000, p. 49) for elements of interaction, continuity, and situation. Restories of each participants’ narrative were presented. Findings from this study include: (1) Complex and varied understandings and negotiations of ethnic and racial identities within the ESO context; and (2) Salience of ethnic and racial identity in the classroom associated with negative, challenging, and positive experiences. ii Acknowledgments I offer my deepest gratitude to Dr. Susan R. Any tickets purchased from third party websites and unauthorised resellers such as Viagogo, StubHub, Carousell or similar are not valid for entry at the venue. 3. Why will my name be printed on the tickets purchased?
