From the rio to the sierra: An environmental history of the Middle Rio Grande Basin. General Technical Report RMRS-GTR-5. Fort Collins, CO: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station. 440 p. Abstract Various human groups have greatly affected the processes and evolution of Middle Rio Grande Basin ecosystems, especially riparian zones, from A.D. 1540 to the present. Overgrazing, clear-cutting, irrigation farming, fire suppression, intensive hunting, and introduction of exotic plants have combined with droughts and floods to bring about environmental and associated cultural changes in the Basin. As a result of these changes, public laws were passed and agencies created to rectify or mitigate various environmental problems in the region. Although restoration and remedial programs have improved the overall “health” of Basin ecosystems, most old and new environmental problems persist. Although their ascendency points towards European ancestors, and although non-American heroes have been sharing their characteristics for a long time, among them Obelix, Diabolik and many manga characters, the cape and costume genre remains firmly grounded in the United States. It is thus unsurprising that, with a brief exception during the Second World War, super hero narratives should have taken place mostly in the United States (although Metropolis, Superman’s headquarter, was notoriously based on Toronto) or in outer space.

A major critique of the genre is that it simply represents an adolescent male power fantasy; and presents a world view that valorises masculinist individualism.

The movie RED is based on his graphic novel of the same name, its sequel having been released in summer This first volume focuses primarily on the FreakAngels themselves, with each character's personality and relationships to those around them effortlessly portrayed using Warren Ellis' signature combination of witty humor and unapologetic drama. The characters are incredibly unique and distinct, and really well scoped and developed. I'm bored with this series. Return to Book Page. It's like Ellis sometimes just slaps things together and hope it forms a story, it makes the book confusing and hard to follow.

Book in poor condition No criticism of the stories contained in this omnibus edition, they are entertaining in the extreme. Ellis and Cassaday have created an amazing meta-textual adventure in Planetary. However, and I hate leaving negative feedback, the copy that I received has crushed corners front and back. I will be returning this copy so that bored Amazon staff can continue their game of five-a-side football with it. Disappointed. Absolutely phenomenal. An underrated piece of work by Ellis. .
