Brandyn helped lead Keystone to its second straight Division 3 District champi- onship. He compiled an 802 mark on the mound with a 1.04 ERA. Brandyn only allowed 32 hits and 9 earned runs in 65 innings during which he struck out 103 batters and walked 16. At the plate, Brandyn hit .400, had 38 hits and scored 38 runs, drove in 24 runs and stole seven bases. Brandyn is now pitch- ing at Division I Marshall University. 2012 Lorain County Miss Softball was Kenzie Conrad of Keystone. Kenzie won just about every honor imaginable after leading 32-0 Keystone to the state championship. She was 1st team All-American and Gatorade State Player of the Year in softball. In 2012, Kenzie was 25-0 on the mound with a 0.74 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 142 innings. She also batted .485 with 44 RBI, 16 dou- bles, two triples and 11 home runs. Kenzie is now playing at Division I University of Akron. News.News. Sports.Sports. Talk.Talk. Spring 2013 FORECAST Magazine 1 "In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a form of 'ball'. Let us go forth for awhile and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our closed rooms. The game of 'ball' is glorious." -Walt Whitman I can’t recall how many years I’ve opened the spring edition of FORECAST from AM930 WEOL with the words of wisdom from Walt Whitman, but something tells me to use it again and again. Perhaps it reflects a time gone by; perhaps its signals a new time, a fresh start...time to get out- doors after a cold and snowy winter. This year, there is plenty of excitement and anticipation to go around. The Cleveland Indians will take the field with a new manager and at least two new players who have been All-Stars and the Lake Erie Crushers hope to return to the playoffs under new leadership. And of course, young men and women across Lorain County have been eager to return to the diamonds to show what they can do. Special thanks go to the outstanding advertisers who are supporting this magazine and our incomparable broadcast schedule of high school baseball and high school softball. Thanks also go to the athletic directors, managers and coaches for their support. Craig R. Peter Gammons: The Cleveland Indians, best run team in professional sports March 5, 2018 by Peter Gammons 7 Comments PHOENIX—The Cleveland Indians have won 454 games the last five years, 22 more than the runner-up Boston Red Sox. In those years, the Indians spent $414M less in payroll than Boston, which at the start speaks volumes about how well the Indians have been run. Two years ago, they got to the tenth inning of an incredible World Series game 7, in a rain delay. Last October they lost an agonizing 5th game of the ALDS to the Yankees, with Corey Kluber, the best pitcher in the American League hurt. They had a 22 game winning streak that ran until September 15, their +254 run differential was 56 runs better than the next best American League team (Houston), they won 102 games, they led the league in earned run average, their starters were 81-38 and they had four players hit between 29 and 38 homers, including 29 apiece from the left side of their infield, Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez. And they even drew 2.05M (22nd in MLB) to the ballpark formerly known as The Jake, the only time in this five year run they drew more than 1.6M or were higher than 28th in the majors. That is the reality they live with. One could argue that in terms of talent and human player development, the growth of young front office talent (6 current general managers and three club presidents), they are presently the best run organization in the sport, especially given their financial restraints.

  • Masterson Struggles in Loss to A's Indians Endure Fourth Straight Road
Masterson struggles in loss to A's Indians endure fourth straight road defeat in Oakland By Jane Lee / Special to MLB.com OAKLAND -- Both the Indians and A's entered Thursday's contest more than 15 games out of their respective division races. Both have endured losing streaks as long as five games this this season. Both are showering its rookies with countless opportunities. Essentially, both have transformed the field into a classroom. However, while the A's have recently watched their youth play a part in the spoiler role, the Indians have watched their work-in-progress group flounder toward the finish line. And, on Thursday, it showed. The Tribe managed just six hits off five Oakland pitchers while Cleveland starter Justin Masterson lasted just four frames en route to a 5-2 loss in the first of a four-game set against the A's, who are winners of nine of their past 11. Meanwhile, the Indians watched their current road trip record move to 0-4. Furthermore, they have lost 15 of their past 19 games -- basically erasing what was once a second-half rally. Aside from a two-run fifth inning, the offense failed to produce any type of rally on Thursday night. Trevor Crowe hit a run-scoring triple in that frame, which was capped off with an RBI ground out off the bat of Michael Brantley against A's starter Clayton Mortensen. The Oakland right-hander exited the game after that frame, but the A's relief corps kept the Indians lineup in check, scattering just two hits through four frames while closer Andrew Bailey picked up his 25th save of the season -- an ongoing record for Oakland rookies.

Pronk's homer punctuates sweep of Royals By Robert Falkoff / Special to MLB.com | 4/15/2012 8:20 PM ET KANSAS CITY -- The Indians made a statement with their offense over the weekend and Travis Hafner delivered the symbolic exclamation point. In Cleveland's 13-7 victory over the Royals on Sunday, Hafner launched the most majestic of his team's four homers. Hafner's 456-foot blast to right field in the fifth inning off Luis Mendoza traveled so far that it wound up as a souvenir inside Rivals Sports Bar, which is located high above the wall. No word on whether it came down in somebody's order of chicken wings. It was the first homer to land in the Rivals establishment since Kauffman Stadium was renovated in 2009. In short, Hafner got all of it and then some. "I was able to stay back on an off-speed pitch and backspin it," said Hafner, who finished 3-for-4. "I think there have been some [homers] before that measured in the 470s, but that's about as good as I can hit 'em." Shelley Duncan, Casey Kotchman and Jason Kipnis joined Hafner in the home run parade, as the Indians put up runs in bunches and applied the finishing touches on a three-game sweep. Right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez, making his return from a five-game suspension, labored through five innings, but got the win thanks to robust offensive support. "The first three innings, it was hard to get in a good rhythm," said Jimenez, who refused to use rustiness as an excuse.

Braking News The Official Newsletter of the Stratford Brakettes/Junior Brakettes/18U Select Brakettes Volumne 3,Issue 2 Editor: Bob Baird (203) 218-1066 December 2020 FAU SLUGGER ANSWERED THE ‘CALL’ FOR THE STRATFORD BRAKETTES Stephanie Call never got the opportunity to represent the United States on the softball diamond. She played her Brakettes career just three years into a 12-year hiatus from softball’s next scheduled appearance in the 2020 Olympics. Well, she finally got her chance to play for Team USA last summer as a member of the USA Softball Women’s Slow Pitch Futures team. It’s doubtful she would have received a look if there had been Olympic Games in 2012 or 2016 since the selection process is heavily slanted toward college standouts in the Power Five Conferences. It’s similar to the College Football Playoff where the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC are the chief powerbrokers. Nevertheless, Stephanie Call played on some of the finest teams in Brakettes softball history from 2011-2014. She played three years and eight games, a total of 202 games. During that time the Brakettes compiled a 200-8 overall record and posted two unbeaten seasons (2011 and 2013).
