Reigning champion Marin Cilic returns to Arthur Ashe Stadium during the day session, while 2011 winner Novak Djokovic plays under the lights. Rafael Nadal, a two-time titlist, makes a rare trek to Louis Armstrong Stadium, which will also be the setting for what may (or may not) be Mardy Fish’s final match. Also in action on the grounds are No. 7 seed David Ferrer, No. 10 Milos Raonic and No. 17 Grigor Dimitrov. On Ashe, Cilic returns to the scene of his greatest triumph – the same court where he swept Tomas Berdych, Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori in straight sets en route to the 2014 US Open title. Cilic has not enjoyed the same success this season, posting a 19-13 record without reaching a final. The Croat’s opponent is 25-year-old qualifier Evgeny Donskoy, who won singles and doubles matches to lead Russia back from an 0-2 Davis Cup deficit against Spain last month. In the night session, Djokovic looks to build off a dominant first-round performance. The World No. 1 dropped just three games in 71 minutes against Joao Souza, winning all but three points on his first serve and committing only seven unforced errors. Djokovic, a five-time US Open finalist, meets Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer, who is 0-5 lifetime against Top 10 players. On Armstrong, Fish brings a 5-3 head-to-head advantage into his match with fellow 33-year-old Feliciano Lopez. Fish has announced that the US Open is his last tournament, and he is not playing men’s or mixed doubles. That means that the 18th-seeded Lopez is potentially Fish’s final opponent. Lopez is playing his 55th straight major, second among active players to Federer’s 64. Later on Armstrong, Nadal seeks to extend his fine play at the final Grand Slam event of the season. The eighth- seeded Spaniard is 21-1 in his last 22 matches at the US Open, including title runs in 2010 and 2013 and a runner-up finish in 2011. He missed the 2012 and 2014 tournaments due to injury. Nadal was one of eight Spaniards in the top half of the draw (8-1) to reach the 2R. Nadal’s opponent in the day session is 5-foot-7 Argentine Diego Schwartzman, who is 0-5 lifetime against Top 10 opponents. In the finale on Armstrong, World No. 1 Bob and Mike Bryan meet Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey in an All- American 1R doubles match. The same two teams met earlier this summer at Wimbledon, with the top seeds defeating Johnson and Querrey in four sets. The reigning champion Bryans are looking for their first Grand Slam title of 2015 (17th career) after winning at least one major title in each of the last 10 years. On Grandstand, No. 10 seed Raonic meets former Top 10 player Fernando Verdasco and 2008 Australian Open finalist/No. 19 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga takes on Marcel Granollers. 2015 US OPEN Wednesday, September 2, 2015 Page 2 of 23 [1] Novak Djokovic (SRB) vs. Andreas Haider-Maurer (AUT) First Meeting 15 ATP Masters 1000 Monte Carlo (Monaco) Clay R16 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-0 Djokovic has won his last 28 Grand Slam 2R matches since losing to Marat Safin in 2R in ’08 Wimbledon Haider-Maurer is looking for his first career Top 10 win (0-5) and only previous Grand Slam match came in ’10 US Open 1R (l. to No. 5 Soderling in 4 sets) Trying to become 1st Austrian to beat a World No. 1 since Jurgen Melzer d.
