  • Ulysses Late Dash for Glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 Ulysses late dash for glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ulysses, who re-opposes his G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes conqueror Highland Reel in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), will be held up as long as possible in a bid to reverse the placings at Ascot on Saturday, July 29. Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family which owns Ulysses, said today: "In the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, maybe Ulysses thought job done when he hit the front, and we had to hold him up a bit more. "Jim Crowley did that when Ulysses won the Eclipse but even then he said to me 'I would have liked to have been more patient'. "As a horse matures, you learn more about him and what tactics he is comfortable with. A daring ride is the way it looks like." This was revealed today when QIPCO and Ascot Racecourse hosted a media event this afternoon ahead of the 2017 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), which is Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest and boasts a prize fund of £1.15-million. Ulysses is out to give trainer Sir Michael Stoute an unprecedented sixth win in the Ascot race, with his previous success coming with runaway winner Harbinger in 2010. It was Ulysses who provided Stoute with his sixth G1 Eclipse Stakes earlier this month when beating Barney Roy by a nose.

  • Postponed Features Among 39 Entries for the King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Wednesday, June 8, 2016 Postponed features among 39 entries for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Last year's winner Postponed headlines 39 top-class entries for the £1.15-million Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) at Ascot on Saturday, July 23, details of which are revealed today. The number of entries this year, which include 14 three-year-olds, is significantly up for the summer showpiece of the European Flat season, with 31 put forward in 2015, 35 in 2014 and 29 in 2013. Five-year-old Postponed is bidding to become only the third dual winner of Ascot's 12- furlong flagship race, following on from Swain (1997 & 1998) and Dahlia (1973 & 1974). Formerly trained by Luca Cumani, the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned Postponed is unbeaten in three starts this year for new handler Roger Varian and was last seen out when defeating Found (Aidan O'Brien) impressively by four and a half lengths in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec) at Epsom Downs on June 4. Investec Derby hero Harzand (Dermot Weld) headlines 14 entries from Ireland. The son of Sea The Stars could bid to become the 13th colt to complete the Derby/King George double in the same season and the first since Galileo in 2001. Aidan O'Brien, Ireland's champion Flat trainer, accounts for 12 entries in total, the most of any handler. His possibles, besides Found, include Minding, who took her Group One tally to four in the British Classic, the Investec Oaks, at Epsom Downs on Saturday, June 4, Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George, globe-trotting dual Group One winner Highland Reel and impressive French 2,000 Guineas victor The Gurkha.

  • SUMMER MAGAZINE 2019 INTRODUCTION P ARK HOUSE STABLES Orse Racing Has Always Been Unpredictable and in Many Ways That Is Part of Its Attraction
P ARK HOUSE STABLES SUMMER MAGAZINE 2019 INTRODUCTION P ARK HOUSE STABLES orse racing has always been unpredictable and in many ways that is part of its attraction. It can provide fantastic high H points but then have the opposite effect on one’s emotions a moment later. Saturday 13 July was one of those days. Having enjoyed the thrill of watching Pivoine win one of the season’s most important handicaps, closely followed by Beat The Bank battling back to win a second Summer Mile, the ecstasy of victory was replaced in a split second by a feeling of total horror with Beat The Bank suffering what could immediately be seen to be an awful injury. Whilst winning races is important to everyone at Kingsclere, the vast majority of people who work in racing do it because they love horses and there is nothing more cruel in this sport than losing a horse, whether it be on the gallops or on the racecourse. Beat The Above: Ernie (Meg Armes) is judged Best Puppy at the Kingsclere Dog Show Bank was a wonderful racehorse and a great character and will be remembered with huge affection by everyone at Park House. Front cover: BEAT THE BANK with Sandeep after nishing second at Royal Ascot Whilst losing equine friends is never easy it is not as difficult as Back cover: LE DON DE VIE streaks clear on Derby Day at saying goodbye to two wonderful friends in Lynne Burns and Dr Epsom Elizabeth Harris. Lynne was a long time member of the Kingsclere Racing Club and her genial personality and sense of fun endeared CONTENTS her to everyone lucky enough to meet her.

pp q 20 Saturday, August 6, 2011 racingpost.com/mobile TONY MORRIS’S TODAY GIANTS OF THE TURF TEENOSO T IS probably the oldest adage in the business and it’s one whose truth I learned very early in my I 50-plus years of fascination with the world of racing and breeding: “Nothing can make a fool of Nothing soft about this a man like a horse.” We form opinions that can easily grow into prejudices, pro or anti, and very often we become confounded by subsequent events. To avoid disillusionment it’s essential to outstanding performer acknowledge that it’s natural to be wrong and there’s no shame in race on soft ground in 1984 but he changing our minds.
