Reason Pipe connection works for JKR at Lintang Nipah (beside Masjid Jamek Sg. Nibong), DBD, Penang. No. of water accounts affected 6,200 PENANG, Friday, 20.11.2020: Pipe connection works on 600mm MS Main at Lintang Nipah (beside Masjid Jamek Sungai Nibong), DBD, Penang to facilitate development project by Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Penang is to be carried out on Saturday, 28.11.2020. In order to facilitate all these physical works, Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) must isolate and “shut down” a section of the existing 450mm AC pipeline. 18/9/2016 OFFICIAL LAUNCHING OF BUKIT DUMBAR PUMPING STATION 2 Community Home > Metro > Community Tuesday, 20 September 2016 Southern Penang gets uninterrupted water supply CONTINUOUS good water supply to the Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone, Penang International Airport and southern parts of Penang island is now better guaranteed following the commission of a new water pump station at Bukit Dumbar. Called BD2, it could pump up to 270 million litres of water per day (MLD) to serve 315,000 people living in the southern parts of the island. PBAPP senior chargeman Mohd Yusri Awang checking the reading of a pump at the newly opened Bukit Dumbar Pump Station 2 in Penang. Its service areas cover Gelugor, Batu Uban, Sungai Nibong, Bayan Baru, Relau, Sungai Ara, Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas, Permatang Damar Laut, Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul, Genting and Balik Pulau. Penang Water Supply Corporation Sdn Bhd (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the RM11.9mil BD2 would complement the operations of the Bukit Dumbar Pump Station 1 (BD1) that had been in service since 1980. He said it would improve pumping efficiency of water from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant on the mainland to southern areas of the island which were undergoing rapid socio-economic development. “Treated water from the Sungai Dua plant is delivered to Bukit Dumbar daily via twin submarine pipeline,” Jaseni said at the launching of BD2 on Sunday. He said BD2 would also reduce pumping costs to the Bukit Gedong Reservoir daily to support the treated water needs of Teluk Kumbar, Gertak Sanggul and Balik Pulau. -

When ESL teachers defend the poor pronunciation skills of their students, their arguments could either be described as a cop-out with respect to their inability to teach their students proper pronunciation or they could be regarded as taking a stand against linguistic influence. If we learn a second language in childhood, we learn to speak it fluently and without a ‘foreign accent’; if we learn in adulthood, it is very unlikely that we will attain a native accent. In this study, the researchers first review misconceptions about pronunciation, factors affecting the learning of pronunciation. Then, the needs of learners and suggestions for teaching pronunciation will be reviewed. Pronunciation has a positive effect on learning a second language and learners can gain the skills they need for effective communication in English. Teluk Bahang Dam: Capacity Is Abnormally Low Due to Low Rainfall Over the Past 12 Months

JASENI MAIDINSA CEO, PBA Holdings Bhd and PBAPP TELUK BAHANG DAM: CAPACITY IS ABNORMALLY LOW DUE TO LOW RAINFALL OVER THE PAST 12 MONTHS • Rainfall in the Teluk Bahang Dam water catchment areas in the period 1.8.2019 – 31.7.2020 amounted to 4,466mm, as compared to the 3-year average of 6,411mm for the corresponding period in 2017, 2018 and 2019. • The Penang State Government has approved 16 cloud seeding operations to raise the effective capacity of the Air Itam Dam, Teluk Bahang Dam and Mengkuang Dam. PENANG, Friday, 7.8.2020: The effective capacity of the Teluk Bahang Dam is low due to abnormally low rainfall, as related to climate change, over the past 12 months. In the period 1.8.2019 – 31.7.2020, the total rainfall recorded at the Teluk Bahang Dam catchment areas was 4,466mm. This amount of rainfall is 30.3% lower than the average rainfall of 6,411mm for the 3-year corresponding period in 2017, 2018 and 2019. It should also be noted that the effective capacity of the Teluk Bahang Dam was already low at the beginning of 2020. Its effective capacity was 41.8% on 1.1.2020, which was 50.3% lower than the average of 92.1% for the 3-year period 2017 – 2019. The logical conclusion is that climate change has caused less rainfall in the dam’s water catchment areas. As a result, its effective capacity has dropped to 19.2% as at 6.8.2020. -

Penang is selected as case study due to the fine balance in population numbers between the Malays and the Chinese which is reflected in their cultural foregrounding in the Penang State Museum. This ethnic balance is also reflected by the multiethnic composition of the state museum board. Yet behind this façade one could detect the existence of culture contests. Such contests are also found within the different ethnic groups like the Peranakan and non-Peranakan Chinese or the Malays and the Indian-Muslims. This essay also examines visitor numbers and the attractiveness of the Penang Story. The essay is based on the scrutiny of museum exhibits, museum annual reports and conversations with former and present members of the State Museum Board. Although not as severe, such wars in Malaysia are manifested by the intense culture competition within and among museums due to the pervasive influence of ethnicity in various facets of the national life. As a result, museum foregrounding of culture and history have become contested (Matheson- Hooker, 2003: 1–11; Teo, 2010: 73–113; Abu Talib, 2008: 45–70; 2012; 2015). -

THE PROPOSED PAN ISLAND LINK 1 HIGHWAY PROJECT, PENANG CHAPTER STATEMENT OF NEED 3 3.0 Introduction From the macro perspective, economic growth can be seen to be increasingly related to the mobility of people, goods and information. This state of affairs strengthens the relationship between the extent and characteristics of the transport infrastructure and the level of economic development in a given area. Thus, high levels of development are commonly associated with high density road infrastructure and highly connected road networks. The transport sector is therefore an important component of economic development. Efficient road systems provide economic and social opportunities and benefits that results in positive multiplier effects such as better accessibility to markets, employment and additional investments. When road systems are deficient in terms of capacity or reliability, they can have economic costs such as reduced or missed opportunities and lower quality of life. However, there may also be unintentional consequences. For example, road traffic congestion is often an unintended consequence in the provision of transport infrastructure to the users. Nonetheless, congestion and its accompanying effects are also indications of a growing economy where capacity and infrastructure have difficulties keeping up with the rising mobility demands.
