Outlaws fans are being invited to tune-in to what is sure to be an all-out fight between these two regions within the Lone Star State. The Battle for Texas kicks off Thursday evening, July 8th following the Outlaws league match against the Boston Uprising. Top players from the Outlaws community supporters group—the Lone Star Vanguard will play Dallas’ community supporters group—Fahrenheit 214. Then the collegiate competition begins between the two regions with The University of St Thomas’ Overwatch Team taking on The University of Texas-Dallas. Both matches will be streamed on the Outlaws YouTube and Twitch channels. Following that, the festivities will culminate on Friday evening, July 9th when the Outlaws go head-to-head against the Fuel to improve their 1-2 standing this season against their arch nemesis. Sixty guests will be afforded an exclusive opportunity to watch the match LIVE at Herb & Beet (located at 448 Sawdust Road, The Woodlands, TX) hosted by the Outlaws staff and will be joined post-match by the entire team for a private Meet & Greet and conversation. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, June 16th at 9a.m. CT at outlaws.gg/battlefortexas, and will be limited to (60) studio audience fans at the price of $60. Tickets will include an Eat Like An Outlaw Dinner, giveaways from our sponsors, access to our pop-up merchandise store and a post-match conversation and autograph signing with the team. Guests must present proof of ticket and their vaccination card, in order to obtain admittance into the event. Doors will open at 3:30pm before the match and seating will be offered on a first come-first served basis. “The Houston Outlaws are so excited to reintroduce LIVE EVENTS to our fans,” said Lori Burgess, COO of Beasley Esports. “We have a team that ranks amongst the best in the Overwatch League, and are proud to represent Houston and #OutlawsNation!" Members of the BAMF Squad and Deadlock Tier, the Outlaws membership clubs, will receive exclusive presale access to purchase tickets for 24 hours before general admission tickets go on sale to the public. The Outlaws presale will launch on Tuesday, June 15th. Deadlock Tier members will be able to purchase tickets at a discount and will receive priority access to the event. To sign up as a BAMF Squad or Deadlock Tier member, visit outlaws.gg/BAMF. “The rivalry between the Dallas Fuel and Houston Outlaws is very real,” cited Matt Iorio, GM for The Houston Outlaws. "This dates back to the earliest days of the Overwatch League and boasts some of the League’s most historic moments - like the very first homestand hosted in Dallas where our fanbase headed there in droves to support us. It heated up with the Outlaws winning the LoneStar Challenge last year and has only gotten fiercer this season with both teams dominating the league and fielding our most competitive rosters ever. We are excited to play the Dallas Fuel on July 9th and bring home another win for the #OutlawsNation!" Follow the @Outlaws on Twitter for the latest updates. • Sports & Esports the Competitive Dream Team
SPORTS & ESPORTS THE COMPETITIVE DREAM TEAM JULIANA KORANTENG Editor-in-Chief/Founder MediaTainment Finance (UK) SPORTS & ESPORTS: THE COMPETITIVE DREAM TEAM 1.THE CROSSOVER: WHAT TRADITIONAL SPORTS CAN BRING TO ESPORTS Professional football, soccer, baseball and motor racing have endless decades worth of experience in professionalising, commercialising and monetising sporting activities. In fact, professional-services powerhouse KPMG estimates that the business of traditional sports, including commercial and amateur events, related media as well as education, academic, grassroots and other ancillary activities, is a US$700bn international juggernaut. Furthermore, the potential crossover with esports makes sense. A host of popular video games have traditional sports for themes. Soccer-centric games include EA’s FIFA series and Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer. NBA 2K, a series of basketball simulation games published by a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, influenced the formation of the groundbreaking NBA 2K League in professional esports. EA is also behind the Madden NFL series plus the NHL, NBA, FIFA and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) games franchises. Motor racing has influenced the narratives in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo from Sony Interactive Entertainment, while Psyonix’s Rocket League melds soccer and motor racing. SPORTS & ESPORTS THE COMPETITIVE DREAM TEAM SPORTS & ESPORTS: THE COMPETITIVE DREAM TEAM In some ways, it isn’t too much of a stretch to see why traditional sports should appeal to the competitive streaks in gamers. Not all those games, several of which are enjoyed by solitary players, might necessarily translate well into the head-to-head combat formats associated with esports and its millions of live-venue and online spectators.
