The global pandemic struck first, followed by an economic meltdown. Then civil unrest broke out in the streets, from Hong Kong to London and across the United States, which reckoned with mass protests over police brutality, racial injustice, one of the most divisive US presidential elections in modern history, and an even more unsettling post-election period. This confluence of crises—spilling into the new year—has demanded much of us all. I’m proud to say that we, as a firm, have risen to meet these challenges, rallying to help our clients and communities get through some of the darkest days and turn toward a brighter future. In the worst of times, O’Melveny is at its best. As the virus spread, we quickly assembled a firmwide Coronavirus Task Force, bringing together lawyers from different practice groups and offices to advise clients on a host of COVID-related concerns. When California’s governor needed to secure additional beds by reopening a shuttered hospital in Los Angeles and revitalizing an underutilized facility in the San Francisco Bay Area, he turned to O’Melveny, as did dozens of other clients in industries as diverse as consumer products, entertainment, financial services, health care, and insurance. -

This report addresses questions we get most often from investors about eSports: ➢ What is eSports? Definitions differ. Our definition of eSports is “players competing at a video game in front of a live audience while being live-streamed.” By implication, viewing, attendance, and playing time are linked, and each creates revenue streams for eSports. ➢ How big is eSports? Globally, one out of every three (ie, 33%) 18-25 year olds spent more than an hour a day playing video games, 395mm people watched eSports, and 250mm people played Fortnite in 2018. eSports revenue will be $1.1B in 2019, up 26% y/y. ➢ Should investors care about eSports? We would argue “yes”, owing to: a) global scale; b) time spent playing and viewing; c) compelling demographics; d) eSports vs traditional sports trends; e) revenue growth; and, f) sports betting should supercharge US eSports. ➢ Is eSports a fad? We would argue “no”, owing to: a) many US Universities now offer Varsity eSports scholarships; b) new special purpose eSports stadiums are proliferating; c) billionaires are investing to make eSports successful; d) audience growth; and, e) Olympics potential. ➢ Why have you never heard of eSports? Because zero of the top 30 earning players in the world were from the US in 2018. -

As of right now, League of Legends remains the most-watched eSport in the world. To rise through the ranks, players specialize in a specific game, developing their skills through extensive, competitive play. Streaming: Gamers who Livestream themselves as they play video games are referred to as "streamers." This is typically done in casual play. While streaming can be incredibly profitable, many streamers have to decide whether they want to stream for a living or try and play professionally and run the risk of making less money. -

MONTHLY COMMENTARY Evolve E-Gaming Index ETF HERO invests in equity securities of companies listed domestically and globally with business activities in the electronic gaming industry. As at November 29, 2019 TICKER: HERO (Hedged) MACROECONOMIC HIGHLIGHTS: The e-sports industry continued to experience strong growth in the wake of rising popularity. According to Forbes, global revenue for esports will reach $1.1 billion this year, up 27% from 2018, with North America accounting for 40% of that pie. Forbes now counts 13 companies with a value of more than $100 million, with the average valuation hitting $217 million, up 52% over last year. At the top of its list of the world’s most valuable e-sports companies were Team SoloMid and Cloud9, which tied for first place with a valuation of $400 million. At the bottom of the list of 13 were OverActive Media and Misfits Gaming, which both had a valuation of $120 million.i According to Newzoo research, video game competitions reach a global audience of 454 million, with at least 190 million more expected to be watching in three years. The average fan, according to Nielsen, is a millennial male, makes nearly $70,000 a year and favors streaming platforms like Twitch, YouTube and Mixer over traditional television. Sponsorship, advertising and media rights have almost doubled since 2017, to $897 million.ii In Canada, TSXV-listed Torque Esports announced that they will form a new entertainment entity called ENGINE Media Holdings. ENGINE’s business model is to provide an immersive streaming platform that focuses on news, sports and esports content.
