Southern Railway Stations in South London
Southern Railway stations in South London The south London area stations of Southern Region of British Railways and its constituents tend to be somewhat neglected, perhaps due to the prevalent suburban electric services, but comprised some fine examples of former company architecture. The following pictures were all taken in August 1973; a few of the sites have since disappeared, many others surely much modernised by now, and some have even been nicely restored...... First, we look at the former South Eastern Railway branch line from Purley to Caterham. Here is Kenley, whose cottage-style station house with very steep-pitched roof and gothic detailing is now a listed building, but privately owned. It dates from the construction of the Caterham Railway in 1856 and is by architect Richard Whittall. Below is Whyteleafe, (left) down side waiting room and footbridge, and the signal box and level crossing at Whyteleafe South...... The signalbox nameboard shows that the station had been re-signed with modern British Rail white enamel plates; in late 1972 I found one of the much more attractive 1950-era station nameplates for sale in an antique shop near Paddington station, for the pricely sum of £2.50p. In contrast the teminus station building at Caterham still displayed its “Southern Electric” enamelware...... Here are two more views at Caterham, with the SE&CR wooden signalbox at right...... Moving on to Anerley, this is an ex London Brighton & South Coast Railway station on its line from London Bridge to West Croydon, just to the north of Norwood Junction. At least part of the main building is thought to date from the line opening in 1839. -

Declaration of Disclosable Pecuniary Interest by Councillors of personal pecuniary interests in matters on the agenda, the nature of any interests, and whether the member regards the interest to be prejudicial under the terms of the new Code of Conduct. Anyone with prejudicial interest must, unless an exception applies, or a dispensation has been issued, withdraw from the meeting. There was no specific declaration of interest although all the Councillors have an interest in the area due to living in the Parish 3. A period of fifteen minutes (including County and District Councillors reports) are available for the public to express a view or ask a question on relevant matters on the following agenda. 10 members of the public were in attendance of which 8 were observing the meeting and 1 spoke regarding the high speed fibre broadband and another the issues regarding the bridleway at Holt Wood. County Cllr Becky Rush - had a site meeting with residents prior to Christmas in relation to the highways issues regarding the crematorium. Cllr Rush is meeting with Highways Officers on 8th January raise the concerns and issues highlighted by resi- dents at the pre Christmas meeting. -

In delivering this project the partners, Kenley Airfield Friends Group, City of London Corporation and Historic England will transform Kenley into an identifiable, high quality asset by creating opportunities for people to engage with Kenley’s World War Two (WW2) heritage. This plan sets outs the project aims to interpret the site. For General Release REPORT TO: CABINET 11 July 2016 AGENDA ITEM: 7.1 SUBJECT: Croydon Local Plan: Strategic Policies – Partial Review (Proposed Submission) LEAD OFFICERS: Jo Negrini, Acting Chief Executive Heather Cheesbrough, Director of Planning & Strategic Transport CABINET MEMBER: Councillor Alison Butler – Deputy Leader (Statutory) – Cabinet Member for Homes, Regeneration and Planning WARDS: All CORPORATE PRIORITY/POLICY CONTEXT/AMBITIOUS FOR CROYDON: The Croydon Local Plan will set the growth and development vision and planning policies for the borough from 2016 – 2036. The Croydon Local Plan will provide the planning policy basis for the borough to plan for the borough’s housing need, deliver necessary affordable housing, accommodate sustainable growth, regenerate the district centres, strengthen neighbourhood and local centres, safeguard and provide employment floorspace and deliver a renewed Croydon Opportunity Area, with a residential population of up to 20,000 people, a comprehensively developed retail core and provision of public realm and infrastructure. The Corporate Plan (2015-2018) sets out how the council will deliver on three key ambitions: • GROWTH, creating growth in our economy; • INDEPENDENCE, helping residents to be as independent as possible; • LIVEABILITY, creating a welcoming, pleasant place in which local people want to live. Ambition Priority One of the Corporate Plan, growth is underpinned by the Croydon Local Plan, enabling development to occur in sustainable locations, in a desired form and at the appropriate time. The Croydon Local Plan establishes the planning policy vision and the statutory basis with which to support the growth and development objectives delivered through the Croydon Promise and Places Plans. The Corporate Plan contains the Council’s contribution to Croydon’s Community Strategy 2016-2021 developed by Croydon’s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP).
