Media Release MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release May 4, 2016 Contact: Dave Jacobson, (818) 943-2348 Shallman Communications GRASSROOTS ACTIVISTS AGREE: STEVE BRADFORD IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR CALIFORNIA Grassroots Group Evolve California Announces Support for Steven Bradford in SD-35 GARDENA, CA-- Today, Steven Bradford announced that he has earned the endorsement of the grassroots activist group Evolve California, a collection of ground-up activists fighting to stave off the influence of money in the political system. Evolve is a non-partisan organization that organizes high- impact grassroots individuals to end political gridlock and counter big money in politics. Steve Bradford had this to say in response to the endorsement: “I am extremely grateful to receive this endorsement from Evolve California. I respect their honest, hardworking movement aiming to empower grassroots activists. I have a long history of addressing social justice issues and other systemic inequality in our state’s political system, and Evolve California’s endorsement reaffirms my absolute dedication to the people of California rather than vested interests and big money. I look forward to working with Evolve California and other grassroots groups to bring real systemic change to California’s politics.” This recent endorsement from EVOLVE comes on the heels of a groundswell of support for Steve Bradford’s campaign. Mr Bradford has long since seized the frontrunner status of this campaign and continues to relentlessly rack up endorsements and support. Steve Bradford has recently received notable endorsements from the California Labor Federation as well as the California Democratic Party. Additionally, today's announcement follows news from last week that Bradford has maintained his fundraising juggernaut standing in the race, having raked-in close to $900,000 to date for his campaign. As of the December 31st report, Bradford had raised an eye-popping $866,304 for his run. Moreover, all of this comes on the heels of breaking news of a new poll, which put Bradford up by double-digits over his closest competitor. The poll, conducted January 7-12, with a sample size of 500 surveyed, put Bradford up 10-points ahead of his closest competitor. Before any messaging, Bradford starts the race with a 10-point advantage: After hearing about all candidates’ positive profiles, Bradford’s lead expands by a substantial margin: Also, according to the poll, Bradford’s endorsements from leaders and groups such as Congresswoman Janice Hahn, incumbent State Senator Isadore Hall, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, State Senate President Kevin de León, State Assemblyman George Nakano (Ret.), and the California Small Business Association all carry tremendous sway with voters. All of which, could have a major impact on the race when serving as validators for Bradford. To view the full poll memo, click here. Significantly, in addition to today's news, former Assemblyman Bradford has lined up enormous support from throughout the 35th Senate District and across California, including from the following leaders and organizations: Public Safety Organizations California Police Chief’s Association California Association of Highway Patrolmen Los Angeles County Police Chiefs Association Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association Bell Police Officer’s Association El Segundo Police Officers’ Association Gardena Police Officer’s Association Inglewood Police Officer’s Association Los Angeles Airport Peace Officers’ Association Peace Officers Research Association of California Organizations Representing Working People Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) Southern California District Council Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California State Council Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1277 California Nurses Association Communications' Workers of America (CWA) Southern California Council IBEW Local 11 IBEW Local 18 International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 5 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District Lodge 947 International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) • The Honorable Mayor Eric Garcetti the Honorable Herb Wesson and the Los Angeles City Council 200 N
Angeles Chapter 3435 Wilshire Blvd. #660 Los Angeles, CA 90010-1904 (213) 387-4287 angeles.sierraclub.org September 23, 2016 The Honorable Mayor Eric Garcetti The Honorable Herb Wesson and The Los Angeles City Council 200 N. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90012 Re: OPPOSE CF #15-0002-S2l5 (Buscaino) regarding Opposing California Coast National Monuments Dear Mayor Garcetti, Council President Wesson, and Councilmembers. While we at the Sierra Club have been spending a great deal of political capitol on getting President Obama to make 5 national monument designations to protect some of America’s greatest wild places before he leaves office in 7 months, we have not forgotten the protection of the largest ecosystem on our planet, our living oceans. With less than one percent of federal waters protected along the continental United States, we have an opportunity to set an important precedent on the West coast and protect these scientifically significant places today, before the current U.S. Presidential Administration leaves office. These ancient islands, underwater volcanoes and deep-sea mountain ranges support extraordinarily high productivity and host relatively large concentrations of a variety of species. Marine scientists and conservation organizations have long noted the scientific significance of these special places. Left intact, protected seamounts, ridges and banks can serve as refuges and centers of resilience for a unique array of species and habitats in the face of activities that alter the seabed, as well as climate change and ocean acidification Long-term deep-sea protections would complement those offered by California’s landmark coastal network of marine protected areas established in 2012, by connecting coastal and nearshore protections to offshore, deep-water habitats.

  • 2014 Environmental Justice Scorecard 2 Championing Solutions to the Environmental Health and Climate Change Issues Facing Working Class Communities of Color
CEJA’s 2nd Environmental Justice Scorecard The California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA) is proud to release our 2nd Environmental Justice Score- card for the 2014 Legislative Session. This scorecard is the only one in the state to assess how well California’s elected officials supported actions to address environmental issues that impact low-income communities and communities of color. Scorecard Methodology and Scoring We selected bills that CEJA as a coalition or our members publicly supported or opposed. We chose bills that were significant: they would either make important contributions to addressing environmental justice, or would enact policies detrimental to communities of color. In total, CEJA scored 13 bills. Senators were scored on a total of 11 bills and Assemblymembers on a total of 12 bills. Of the ten bills that made it to the Governor’s desk, he signed eight of them. Unfortunately, due to rule restrictions, Senate pro Tem De León was unable to cast his vote on a couple of measures included in our scorecard because he was engaged in helping to move other important measures on the Assembly floor, thus impacting his score. However, none of these bills were close votes and in both instances he had previously voted for the bills in committee. We believe his score would have been different if the Senate Rules had similar rules as the Assembly on such matters. About the California Environmental Justice Alliance The California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA) is a statewide coalition of grassroots, environmental jus- tice organizations. We are working to achieve environmental justice by organizing in low-income communities and communities of color – those most impacted by environmental hazards – and by pushing for policies at the federal, state, regional and local levels that protect public health and the environment.
