• He is the Aggies chief recruiter and was head coach Cy Alexander’s No. 1 assistant before taking over as the interim head coach on Jan. 29, 2016. • N.C. A&T Director of Athletics Earl Hilton named Joyner the permanent head coach on March 6, 2016 before a MEAC tournament game against Coppin State. •Joyner went 5-5 in his interim role including a 5-3 mark in the conference that included two wins over archri- val N.C. A&T. • He was the head coach at Columbia State Junior College. • He led the Chargers to a 61-23 and two Tennessee Community College Athletic Assocation regular- season titles. • Joyner played for former Aggies head coach Cy Alexander, having played for him as a student-athlete from 1993-96. He worked for him as a professional and Alexander served on Joyner’s staff as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Columbia State Community College during the 2011-12 season. Their time together has produced championships and postseason ap- pearances, including the 2013 MEAC tournament title the two won together. • In 2012, the Charges made their first national tournament appearance in 34 years. The 2011-12 team went 23-8 and finished the season ranked sixth in the nation. Joyner earned the 2011-12 National Junior College Athletic Association District 7 Coach of the Year honor and was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year in 2010 and ‘12. • Joyner spent the 2008-2009 season as an assistant coach for the Cumberland University men’s basketball program, a National As- sociation Intercollegiate Athletics institution, in Lebanon, Tenn. He helped the Bulldogs to an NAIA National Championship Tournament appearance with a 26-6 record. He developed the post players, coordinated all recruiting, and scouted each opponent. He was also responsible for implementing the team’s game plan. RAY MARTIN Assistant Coach • Martin’s college basketball coaching career has ranged over five decades. Martin began his coaching career as the freshman coach at Harvard during the 1977-78 season. Martin then spent eight seasons (1980-88) as an assistant coach at North Carolina State under head coach Jim Valvano. •Other assistant coaching stops for Martin include Southern Methodist (1988-89), Tennessee (1989-93), Shaw (1994-95, 2002-03, 2004- 05), Florida Atlantic (1995-96), Miami of Ohio (1996-98), Fordham (2003-04), South Carolina State (2006-07), North Carolina Central (2007-11), University of Maryland-Baltimore County (2011-2015) and Grambling State (2015-16).

ADRIAN POWELL Director of Basketball Ops • Adrian Powell became the director of basketball operations under North Carolina A&T head men’s basketball coach Jay Joyner on July 6, 2016. Powell will be in charge of the everyday administrative work in the men’s basketball office. He will also be in charge of organizing the summer basketball camp, assisting with travel and monitoring classes. •Powell played professionally in Finland before accepting the position at N.C. A&T. He is a familiar face to Aggie fans having won the school’s most recent men’s basketball MEAC championship when N.C. A&T claimed the title in 2013.
