Players like Johan Cruyff, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp, and more recently Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie, have long set a standard for exciting, creative play. In the 1980's and '90's The Netherlands provided the soccer world with entertaining teams and players. Recent Dutch soccer success includes semifinal appearances at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 and 2004, a quarter final appearance in the 2008 European Championships, as well as reaching the Round of 16 at the 2006 World Cup, and the Dutch national team is usually always in the top 10 in the FIFA World Rankings. The on-field success of Dutch soccer is mirrored by the world-renowned KNVB coaching Academy. At its foundation stands Rinus Michels, the man who "invented" Total Soccer in the '70s. His ideas are the basis of this camp. Small Nation, Great soccer vision The Netherlands is small in size, but Dutch soccer is famous around the world. For the past 30 years the Dutch have played a vital role in international soccer. The national team has recorded astonishing successes in the European Championship and World Cups. The top Dutch soccer clubs have shown well in every major European Cup competition, while Dutch players have long filled the rosters of the most popular European clubs.

  • EURO 2012, Football Standards Agreements Across Europe
EURO 2012, football standards Agreements across Europe NEN sets the standard Agreements across Europe The manager of the Dutch team, Bert Van Marwijk, has drilled his team and the ‘Orange Virus’ has once again taken hold in the Netherlands. Will ‘we’ finally become European champions again in Kiev after 24 years? The football frenzy will start on 8 June! But what about the rules of the game that go unnoticed in the background? Why won’t any of the seats in the stadiums give way when someone sits on them? And how come goals are always the same size? Because agreements are made for these things! And they are set out in European standards. Different parties come together to set these standards, after which they are published by NEN. Stadium seats “3 million cm of seating that has to be able to take a knock or two” On 9 June 2012, Holland plays its first match, against Denmark. Tens of thousands of spectators stream into the stadium in Kharkiv. Everyone mills around looking for their seat. Late arrivals edge through grumbling fans who have already sat down. According to NEN-EN 13200-4, the space between a seat in one row and the cor- responding seat in the preceding row must be at least 30 cm. Not really ideal, but well, once we have sat down, the match is the only thing that matters. But what are the other rules for the seats? According to the requirements in the standard, a seat must be able to support a weight of 2,000 kg and be at least 40 cm deep and 50 cm wide.

Italy had taken the lead through an Ernie Brandts own goal but Brandts himself restored parity before Arie Haan struck the Netherlands' winner. • Italy have held the upper hand over the ensuing three decades, during which they have recorded two draws and six wins against the Oranje, including a penalty shoot-out triumph following a goalless semi-final at UEFA EURO 2000™. • Despite playing against ten men from the 34th minute when Gianluca Zambrotta was sent off, the tournament co-hosts paid the price for two missed penalties during normal time.
