6 Lan Su Chinese Garden The Lotus: Beauty and Meaning in Lan Su View an amazing display of Lotus throughout the summer

One of the most celebrated plants in Chinese culture, the lotus is more than just a beautiful flower. From its beginning as a food source, to its use in Chinese medicine, to its symbolism in art and poetry—the lotus is intrinsically linked to Chinese history and culture.

This August, Lan Su’s stunning lotus collection returns to Lake Zither. Nurtured from tubers at our greenhouse over the winter, the lotus blossom rises above the water to reveal a fragrant bloom.

Not only seen as a beautiful blossom in Lake Zither during late summer, the lotus is also honored throughout Lan Su in poetry and inscriptions. One of the most prominent inscriptions adorns the Stone Gateway at the garden’s entrance. Help grow Lan Su’s Lotus Collection
