News Metro retirees overpaid by $1 million Metro has overpaid retirees by more than $1 million collec- tively over the years because of errors and miscalculations that went unnoticed until a recent internal agency audit. In all, 236 retirees received more pension benefits than they were entitled to and will be asked to repay all or part of the overpayment, Metro officials said. The St. Louis-based transit agency also has shorted 196 retirees collectively $717,000 as the result of errors, the audit found. Those retirees will be repaid, with interest, for the underpayments. Slay’s development chief leaving City Hall after nine years The brains and muscle behind Mayor Francis Slay’s devel- opment team is leaving City Hall. Deputy Mayor Barb Geisman, who has been with the mayor since his first term, is retiring. Her departure has been rumored for months, but was made public today with a resolution from the city’s Board of Aldermen. Geisman is the frequently frenetic and occasionally harried devel- opment czarina who has presided over a building boom downtown, from the new Busch Stadium to the resurgent Loft District. If anybody knew the ins and outs of the intricate tax-increment and incentive packages offered to city builders -- and, because they were so complicated, it sometimes felt like no one did -- it was Geisman.
