I would like to think we have come forward as a club over my time but it would be wrong to say we do not have some hurdles to over come to continue to develop to a better place than currently. The support shown to me over my time has been great and I look forward to the next generation taking over the running and continue to develop it even further. I look back over the six years and look at the improved facilities through the nets, ground and club rooms and are happy where we have come. That said there is still work to go on finishing the net run ups, the netting to stop balls going over the fence, a new pitch for the Heights and hopefully with support from the council the synthetic grass around the pitch. I would like to acknowledge the work of club coach Darren Bersey who like me is stepping down after three seasons. During his coaching stint we have had one of the most successful periods with our top side. He wears his heart on his sleeve at times but you certainly know that he only wants what is best for the club and his players. He has been ably supported by Lincoln Grigg and together they made what I believe is the best coaching duo in the RDCA. Linc is continuing and I wish him all the best for the future and the structure put in place. I have had many great committee members during my time and I thank each one of them for putting their time to improve the club. I am glad the current Secretary, Treasurer and Junior Co-Ordinator are continuing and I am sure they will be a huge assistant to the new President like they were to me. Thankyou to Bernie Stock who puts in many hours behind the bar and was very happy for Bernie to be acknowledged with the Geoff Darcy club person of the season award, it was thoroughly deserved. I would also like to acknowledge the retirement of our longest serving player Ian Stewart after a club record 434 games. Ian played in basically every team during his career and won an unbelievable 15 batting awards during his time. Off the ground he worked just as hard holding down the posts of President, Secretary and Treasurer at different times. It is hoped we may be able to twist his arm for a game or two of veteran cricket for the next few seasons. On the subject of veterans it was great to have the club represented again in this competition and with thanks to all players who played for the season going down in the grand final. The team was ably led by Colin Reyment and we look forward to going one better next season and hopefully grow to two teams. The junior program has really developed again under Matt Marsh with able support from Di Wool among others. This is the most important area of the club as we develop the future from the youngest members. The Milo program was again run by Shane Donovan with numbers growing very well to over the 30 mark. Well done Matt and Shane. We had a couple of good social events with the Xmas party and shuffle nights being well run. Thanks to the juniors for the Xmas night and Daniel Dima on the shuffle night. It is an area where the club can gain some further ground by having more well run events during the season. The finances were again controlled by Adam Brush and as always he made a difficult job look easy. He is a great asset to the club and hopefully he will be counting the coin for a few seasons yet. Andrew McDonald took on the role as Secretary and in his first season did really well. I am sure Quack will continue to grow in the role under the new leadership. Thanks to the other members of the committee that supported me where possible. I would like to also thank Rorie and Katherine Meredith for making their house available for our Pommy recruit, as always they go above and beyond with their support. Besides Linc and myself the 3rds and 4ths were captained by Quack and Wayne Pollard, thankyou for your work in sometimes difficult situations. On field we again made the first eleven finals but really couldn’t get it together most of the season with the bat and fell away in the semi final and could not defend our premiership. The 3rds also made the fianls but also couldn’t get it together with the bat and lost the first final. It was a tough year for the 2’s and 4’s but there were many kids given an opportunity to play and that should be good for the future. 2 It was great to see two first time winners for the big individual awards, Matt Whittaker taking home the club championship with Darren Wardley after a lazy 10 year break from the game claiming the Lindsay Trollope. Congrats to the other winners also. In closing I wish the new President, Shane Kelton, all the best for his time in the position. He has already been able to get some new faces involved on the committee and looks like a very exciting time for the club. Give Shane and his team all the support you can and we will see the numbers increase and the buzz around the club back to where it was a few seasons ago. As always I would like to thank my family for their support over this journey, Sally and the kids do without their husband and father for a fair bit of the cricket season. I am sure there are many things lined up for me as my time frees’ up. Cheers and a last thankyou to everyone who has supported me over my time, it has been fun. Go Barkers!! Ken Trollope SECRETARYS REPORT Mooroolbark started the season with 5 senior sides. Unfortunately lack of numbers forced us to withdraw the fifth eleven. Season 2011 / 12 for Mooroolbark Cricket Club saw 45 players who played in 2010 / 11 back at the club for the new season, bringing with them a combined total of 4548 matches of experience playing for Mooroolbark with them. Sadly, there were 30 players who played for the club in 2010 / 11 that did not play a match for Mooroolbark in 2011 / 12. Effectively the club lost 2722 matches worth of experienced players. I hope to see many of those players return for season 2012 / 13. The club welcomed back 7 past senior players for season 2011 / 12. Welcome back to Dain Catley, Brent Thomas, Andrew Wadsworth, Steve Wallace, Darren Wardley, Dylan Williamson & Glen Williamson. 19 new players played their first games of senior cricket for Mooroolbark in 2011 / 12 including some promising juniors & some older new faces. Congratulations to Charlie Beresford, Damian Cameron, Brayden Clark, Paul Illichman, Ryan Illichman, Chris Mitchell, Alan Preston, William Sharp, Brent Smith, Rod Smith, Tim Smith, Aaron Stack, Ron Taylor, Jack Thomas, Mitch Williams, Aaron Williamson, Josh Witt, Tom Wragg & Peter Wright on your first senior games for the mighty Barkers. In total 71 players took the field in senior matches for Mooroolbark in 2011 / 12, of which 38 (54%) played 10 games for more, 11 (15%) played between 5 to 9 games & 22 (31%) played 4 or less games. Well done to the 38 players who played 10 or more matches. Hopefully the other 33 will play more matches next season. Thanks to all those who filled in throughout the season. It was great to see many father son combinations take the field at times during the season including Rod & Tim Smith, Brent & Kaiden Smith, Darren & Carlin Jackson, Matt & Alex Marsh, Glen & Dylan & Aaron Williamson, Paul & Ryan Illichman plus Darren & Judd Bersey. Congratulations to the selectors for making this happen. Congratulations to our senior first eleven who once again proved to be one of the better teams in Trollope Shield, making the finals but unfortunately losing the first final & our senior third eleven who made the finals in B-Grade & also lost the first final.
