Proven Results RECORD-SETTING PRIMARY ELECTIONS A record number of voters participated in Michigan’s primary election on Aug. 4, with more than 2.5 million people casting a vote either in person or by absentee ballot. One of the most followed races in the primary was the 13th Congressional District rematch between U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) and Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones. Jones represented the district for a few weeks in 2018, following the resignation of Rep. John Conyers (D-Detroit) in December 2017. After his resignation, there were two elections for the seat with Jones winning the special election to complete Conyers unexpired term, and Tlaib winning the regular race for the Congressional seat. This year, Tlaib and Jones were the only primary candidates. On Tuesday, Tlaib won the strongly Democratic district with nearly twice as many votes as Jones, potentially guaranteeing her a second term. In the 3rd Congressional District in West Michigan, Republican Peter Meijer, a U.S. Army veteran whose family founded the well-known Meijer retail chain, won a five-way contest with more than 50 percent of the vote, including holding a strong lead over his main opponent Rep. Lynn Afendoulis. Meijer will face Democratic attorney Hillary Scholten. The winner of that race will succeed U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, a former Republican turned Libertarian who is not seeking reelection. In the 10th Congressional District, a Republican stronghold in the Thumb region, Republican businesswoman Lisa McClain of Bruce Township, a pro-Trump Republican who outspent her opponents, beat state Rep. -

Recognizing the need to direct taxpayer resources to programs that can demonstrate a return on federal investments, quality child care - which has a strong evidence base - plays a crucial role in supporting children's healthy development, learning, and school readiness, while also enabling parents to work, train, or pursue an education. In this way, CCDBG not only improves future opportunities for children, but also invests in parents by supporting their ability to work and be successful. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, families at every income level struggled to find and afford high-quality care, and less than twenty percent of eligible children received support through the CCDBG subsidy program. These challenges have only been exacerbated over the last year, and now, more than ever, access to affordable high-quality child care remains a barrier for many parents who wish to enter and remain in the workforce. Given the importance of this program to working families across the country and the fundamental role of child care in our economic recovery, there is a critical need for robust CCDBG funding. -

GLOBAL directly supports over 200 scientists and 2,000 patients with Down syndrome. Working closely with Congress and the National Institutes of Health, GLOBAL is the lead advocacy organization in the U.S. for Down syndrome research and medical care. Given that people with Down syndrome are at extremely high risk for COVID-19 (adults with Down syndrome are four times more likely to be hospitalized and 10 times more likely to develop adverse side effects due to COVID-19) we have decided to hold our 2021 AcceptAbility Gala virtually. GLOBAL’s annual AcceptAbility Gala brings together policymakers from both sides of the aisle, key scientists from NIH, and our Down syndrome community. YOUR support for this inspiring event allows GLOBAL to protect people with Down syndrome from COVID-19; provide world-class care to over 2,000 patients with Down syndrome from 28 states and 10 countries; and fund over 200 scientists working on Down syndrome research with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. Thank you for your commitment to addressing the diversion of91 l fees and charges by states and other taxing jurisdictions through this newly formed advisory committee. Terry has been a 9-1-1 professional in Oklahoma for over 30 years. In 1980, at the beginning of his career, he first served as a dispatcher in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Throughout his career, he has served as communications officers and managers for cities throughout Oklahoma and has attained many accomplishments within their respective 9-1-1 centers. In the City ofNorman, Oklahoma, Terry oversaw the 9-1-1 operations and the citywide radio. Here, he integrated the City radio system into the State of Oklahoma radio network. Terry was also instrumental in the replacement of the public safety software that streamlined the delivery of services from the 9-1-1 call to call completion in Oklahoma. In 2017, Terry was hired as the first 9-1-1 Coordinator for the State of Oklahoma and is charged with coordinating and overseeing 9-1-1 efforts throughout the State. He is employed by the Oklahoma 911 Management Authority, which voted on March 4, 2021, to support his application and represent Oklahoma for the 911 Strike Force. -

While COVID-19 related-research is now in overdrive, most other research has been slowed down or stopped due to pandemic-induced closures of campuses and laboratories. We are deeply concerned that the people who comprise the research workforce – graduate students, postdocs, principal investigators, and technical support staff – are at risk. While Federal rules have allowed researchers to continue to receive their salaries from federal grant funding, their work has been stopped due to shuttered laboratories and facilities and many researchers are currently unable to make progress on their grants. Additionally, researchers will need supplemental funding to support an additional four months’ salary, as many campuses will remain shuttered until the fall, at the earliest. Many core research facilities – typically funded by user fees – sit idle. Still, others have incurred significant costs for shutting down their labs, donating the personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline health care workers, and cancelling planned experiments. Congress must act to preserve our current scientific workforce and ensure that the U.S. -
