W. Talwalkar (1888 – 1982) (1902 – 1994) Inaugural Chairman Inaugural Secretary Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (December 25, 1861 – November 12, 1946) Born in an educated orthodox Hindu family at Prayag (Allahabad) in 1861, Madan Mohan Malaviya has been recognized as an outstanding and noble son of India. His multifaceted personality made him, at the same time, a great patriot, an educationist with a vision, a social reformer, an ardent journalist, reluctant but effective lawyer, a successful parliamentarian and an outstanding statesman. Among Malaviyaji’s many achievements, the most monumental was the establishment of the Banaras Hindu University or Kashi Hindu Vishwavidyalaya. In the course of his lifetime Banaras Hindu University came to be known as a Capital of Knowledge acknowledged across India and the world. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya created history in Indian education with this institution – the first of its kind in the country. He chose Banaras as the site, because of the centuries old tradition of learning, wisdom and spirituality inherent to the place. His vision was to blend the best of Indian education called from the ancient centres of learning – Takshashila and Nalanda and other hallowed institutions, with the best tradition of modern universities of the west. Great minds and personalities like Annie Besant, Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Shyama Charan De and many others joined hand with him in his quest for knowledge, arousing the national spirit in India and winning freedom with the power of education and righteousness. Malaviya passed away in 1946. But his spirit still lives and there are many who bear the torch that he lit, many more stand ready to shoulder the mantle of his responsibility. To All Our Esteemed Members I welcome you all to the “little kingdom” of the Indian Ceramic Society. It is very pleasing for me that our organization has progressed significantly over the past few years due to the continuous love and support of all our dear members, whom I may proudly consider as the family members of this ceramic family. In the very beginning I, along with all my members of this ceramic family, deeply mourn the sad demises of following members during past two years and convey heartfelt condolences to the respective bereaved family: Mr Umatosh Sarkar, Mr Kamal Narain Agarwal, Dr G. M. Agarwal and Prof. G. S. Upadhyaya. At this juncture I feel the necessity of publishing yet another Membership Directory. Here it is to be mentioned that as per the standard programme, print publication of Membership Directory was scheduled on May 31, 2020, distribution of which was scheduled within June 10, 2020. However, in the changed scenario owing to worldwide COVID’19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown, we are going to publish the e-diectory in the Society’s website. The new version of the Membership Directory will help all our dear members to know each other intimately. Those who are new to our family will have a good chance of exchanging news and views with their seniors. During the last two years, we have made some progress in several fronts, which are outlined below. You would be glad to know that the quarterly journal of the Society, ‘Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society’ (TICS) has been given an impact factor of 1.014 by Thomson Reuters in 2018. The membership strength has increased significantly during the last two years. A total of 210 new members have been enrolled since June, 2018. A liaison between The European Ceramic Society (ECerS) and the Indian Ceramic Society (InCerS) has been established and the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for collaboration between InCerS and ECerS has been formally signed by Dr K. Muraleedharan, President, and countersigned by Dr Sunirmal Jana, Hony Treasurer, for and on behalf of the Indian Ceramic Society, and by Dr Moritz von Witzleben, President, for and on behalf of the European Ceramic Society. The 3rd Students’ Chapter of the Indian Ceramic Society has been officially inaugurated at the Department of Ceramic Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, on April 6, 2019 and on this occasion an Inauguration Ceramony-cum-1st Annual Session of the Students’ Chapter of NIT Rourkela was held during 6th-7th April, 2019. The website of the Society (www.incers.org) has been improved much and is updated regularly. There are two links in our website for ‘Online Abstract Submission’ and ‘Online Registration’ for the Annual Session of the Society. The members are requested to surf the pages for any information pertaining to the Society. We would appreciate receiving suggestions towards improvement of the website. I am glad to inform you that the financial picture of the Society now looks quite sustainable. Some activities have been undertaken like conductance of international conference, workshop, etc by the parent body, collaboration with Taylor & Francis, UK, etc to generate resources in different forms. More people and organizations are now showing interest in the activities of the Indian Ceramic Society and provide financial resources in some forms and others. In this context, I would like to appreciate the continuous and active support rendered by all our advertisers, without which the financial strength of the Society could not have advanced progressively and be in its present position. Finally, I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all the members of our Society, without whose active co-operation it would not have been possible for the Secretariat to publish this new and updated version of the Membership Directory. Sincere support and co-operation from the Chairmen and Secretaries of the active local chapters in this endeavor are also admiringly acknowledged. Thanks are also due to the secretarial staff members for their sincere effort as well as hard work in bringing out this directory in time. I proudly believe that all the members of our ceramic family will maintain their moral commitments which will help us scaling new heights in future. I once more request everybody to help us by providing latest contact details to enable us to update our database and to incorporate the same in the next directory to be published in 2022. Mental illness is stigmatized and individuals suffering from mental illness are considered as ‘patients’; this often prevents people from accessing mental health services. One might say there is a huge conspiracy of ‘silence’ around mental health and an equal extent of ‘noise’ around mental illness, but between the silence and the noise is a vacuum.

  • Vivekananda – Rousing Call to the Youth
Interactive Sessions on "Vivekananda – Rousing Call to the YOUth" Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest visionaries of the world, had a great faith in channelizing the youth power towards nation building. His electrifying words havebeen motivating millions and millions of people towards leading a life of fulfillment by serving the nation. Disha conducted one-hour sessions on"Vivekananda – Rousing Call to the YOUth" in lieu of Vivekananda Jayanti. The program was unique in both its approach and the message. The session included a talk on the different aspects of Swami Vivekananda’s personality(blemish less character, patriotic fervor, cultural ambassador, and propagator of seva) and the second half was dedicated to a video interaction which focused on how each individual can imbibe the personality traits of Swami Vivekananda mentioned above. The session also highlighted the relevance of the historic speech Swamiji delivered in Chicago 125 years ago. The specialty of this year, Disha conducted 2 training programs towards training participants on conducting the one-hour session in institutions in which over 75 participants took part. These volunteers went around contacting institutions, fixing the programs and conducted themselves in few places as well. Disha, with a dedicated team of volunteers, in a span of just one month (Jan 6 to Feb 7), conducted 239 sessions reaching exactly 200 institutions taking the message of Swamiji to 37,000 students. We reached to the urban, semi-urban and rural places. The institutions ranged from primary school to the post graduate level and to the professional courses. We even conducted a few programs for general public.
