Remember to check out our calendar for upcoming INNEvents Follow INN on and EXHIBITIONS The Dangerous Prize, Nobels Fredssenter, until December 23 The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to German journalist, editor and pacifist Carl von Ossietzky in 1935 is one of the most controversial in the history of the Peace Prize. It also stands as one of the Peace Prize committee’s most significant and justified decisions, in that the prize that year went to a fearless pacifist who warned against German remilitarisation in breach of the Treaty of Versailles before WW2. Who was this fearless critic and whistleblower, and why did awarding him the Peace Prize create such a stir? The exhibition “The Dangerous Prize” takes you behind the scenes of the Peace Prize that shook Europe, and sheds new light on Ossietzky’s life and the work of the Nobel Committee. In his generation, Fagerås is among the few who work with figurative sculpture. Despite choosing a classical approach in both style and material, Fagerås’ sculptures represent a break with the traditional. They do not depict exalted gods or heroines, but ordinary people frozen in a moment of nothing. These are sober everyday portraits and situational representations; three infants asleep, a woman scratching her hip, and an old man with a light slumped body carrying a sleeping pillow. The exhibition shows both recent and older works, and comprise several works in marble and two new sculptures in cast iron. Click here for more information.
