Twins James and Grace Novakovich, ages 4, of Fort Myers, created a collage of rainbows, flowers, clouds and brightly colored paintings for our poster “It’s a Wonderful World.”

The twins were born prematurely at a mere 27 weeks, just three quarters of their way to full term. Their mom Jennifer, who lived in Naples at the time, was transported by The Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit ambulance from North Collier Hospital so she could deliver at the Fort Myers facility where the physicians and staff specialize in caring for the tiniest of infants.

The babies were not fully developed and were very sick. They fought for their lives.

Lot #16 47 48 17. One of a Kind and the Best of Bordeaux Oh what a history…. The lucky bidder can own the 1993 First Growth Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the first time they produced two labels, a European and a United States label. Traditionally, since 1945 the winery has commissioned an artist to do an original for the label. In 1993 they selected Balthasar Klossowski de Rola, known as Balthus, who was a prominent artist of the 20th century, most recognized for his paintings of young girls in voyeuristic or erotic contexts. And true to his style, his label was adorned with a pre-teen nude figure. When the United States saw the collection, they rejected delivery of the bottles. So, as not to offend their American friends, the Rothschild’s created a European and a US version. The European label had the nude and the American had a blank label. The lucky winner of this lot will receive 5 bottles of the hard to get European version, and 1 of the American for comparison. Also included is a 6-bottle aluminum, insulated Impact box on wheels for carrying your booty. Great for transporting wine to a party or check on an airplane.

Fast forward from 1993 to 1995 and enjoy a bottle each of the 1995 First Growth Bordeaux , Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Margaux, Chateau Haut Brion and Chateau Latour. Robert Parker said that 1995 was an excellent to outstanding vintage producing the most consistently high quality since 1990 with the first growths here rated a spectacular 95 and 96.

Black Ice For those about to rock, you can have a stiff upper lip, but like last year’s Wine Fest auction, AC/DC is back in black and this time with much more to bid on including chocolate, ice , platinum and a little extra celebrity.

AC/DC’s current album Black Ice is the 15th internationally released studio album by the Australian rock band. The album went to number one in 29 countries, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In its first week, it sold 784,000 copies in the United States alone. It was eventually certified 5x platinum in Australia. Black Ice received two Grammy nominations last year for Best Rock Album and Best Hard Rock Performance for the song “War Machine,” which won the coveted 2010 award.

A friend to Wine Fest and a host of a chef vintner dinner this year along with his wife Georganne, AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams graciously donated three guitar picks trusted only to Mark Loren, of Mark Loren Designs, who generously created a unique, one-of-a-kind matching necklace and earrings set. A several-time national award-winning jewelry designer, Loren framed the picks in blackened 14k gold and accented them entirely with black diamonds. The pendant is suspended on a neckwire created from one of Cliff’s bass guitar strings. The pieces are hand signed by Mark Loren along with the karat and copyright.

And if that wasn’t enough, a culinary favorite and rock star of all things chocolate, Norman Love, of Norman Love Confections, has added his signature to the package with a year of BLACK, his famed dark chocolate line of goodness (for the winning bidder and 3 friends, delivered each month). In 2002, USA Today named Norman Love Confections one of the top 10 artisan chocolate companies in the country, and in 2005 and again in 2010, Norman Love Confections was rated one of the top chocolate companies in the country by Consumer Reports. Red wine lovers behold the perfect match.

But wait, like a good rock band, we won’t stop there. The lucky winner will also receive a framed music award presented to AC/DC from Ireland for most records sold, donated by Williams. He will also personalize and autograph the piece.

58 22. World Wine Smackdown On May 24, 1976, a wine tasting was held in France that marked a turning point in the history of American wine. Win this lot, and you can re-enact that historic event for yourself.

A British wine merchant in Paris named Steven Spurrier arranged a blind tasting of wines he’d selected on a trip to Napa Valley against the finest Grand Cru Burgundies and First Growth Bordeaux France had to offer. The panel, which tasted all wines without knowing what came from where, consisted of the most famous, most expert and knowledgeable wine connoisseurs in Paris.

The result? When all the points were added up, America’s Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and Stag’s Leap Cabernet won the competition. The French were astounded (not to mention furious). They held the same blind tasting again the following year…with the same result.

The Judgment of Paris, as the event came to be known, put American wines on the world stage once and for all, proving that American winemakers could produce bottles that equal the finest France had to offer. We’ve never looked back.

(In fact, this event was so significant that a bottle of Chateau Montelena Chardonnay is on display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.)

Today, we offer an auction lot that commemorates that historic event, and allows the winner to reenact the “Judgment of Paris” in their home. Included are both Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and Stag’s Leap Cabernet, along with examples of the types of Bordeaux and Burgundy wines that they bested in the competition.

But we’re not stopping there. We’re also including an 11-year vertical of Opus One, Napa’s premier Bordeaux blend along with 11 years of Great Bordeaux for another competition of the “Best of the Best.”
