As well as receiving weekly touring productions of drama, musicals, ballet and opera, the theatre also stages children’s shows, particularly during holiday periods, one-night events, concerts and films, conferences, product launches and award ceremonies. As a purpose-built, professional, working theatre, the Ashcroft offers high quality facilities for all kinds of corporate events, with a dedicated staff who are experienced in delivering clients’ requirements with both maximum efficiency and minimum fuss. CREW INFORMATION Fairfield Halls has a resident technical staff, and a committed team of experienced Casuals. Two technicians are provided as standard (Lighting Operator and Stage Manager). These roles are location specific as they form part of our evacuation procedure. As well as being the primary technical representative, the Stage Manager is provided to facilitate get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs. During the show they may have other duties to perform away from the stage, so cannot be guarranteed to be present at all times. We would recommend the use of a dedicated crew member for time dependant tasks or cues during a performance. Further staff can be provided at an additional cost, including a sound engineer, flyman and additional crew to assit you with get-in, fit-up and get-out. TECHNICAL PROVISION Whilst we offer a range of lighting and sound equipment included in the hire fee, should you wish to hire further equipment you will find our rates extremely competitive. This brochure contains a basic list of the theatre’s equipment and our hire charges. Please contact us for further details. Fairfield, Park Lane, Croydon CR9 1DG PAGE 2 THE STAGE The stage area is approximately 28ft x 25ft and requires care with the depth of the set. Our flying height is 20ft max in a 40ft grid and we keep a stock of rolling battens and batten clips. The floor has no rake and is covered with lino, which is painted matt black. It may be screwed into. The prompt corner is stage left with a fully equipped stage management desk comprising a comprehensive cue light, full communications and dressing room call system. There is a CCTV monitor of the stage. Maximum width for cloths 12.92m (40' 0") 30 single purchase counterweight sets operated from stage level OP 5 single speed electric winch bars operated from stage level PS Maximum load for counterweights is 272.7Kg (600 lb) Electric winches is 454.5Kg (1000 lb) House Tabs fly mechanically operated from prompt corner NOTE: MORE THAN THREE FLY CUES PER HOUR REQUIRES A FLYMAN. The forestage, is on moveable on electric screw jacks and accommodates the following options: (i) 2 rows of seats at auditorium level (ii) An orchestra pit for 16 musicians (including an Upright piano) (iii) A thrust stage at stage level. Any use of either an orchestra pit or thrust stage must be notified so seats are taken off sale. A large pit for 40 musicians is available at special request, this loses the first five rows of stalls seats. The Scene dock is 5.48m (18' 0") deep,17.06m (56' 0") wide. It has two shutters 6.4m (21' 0") high x 1.5m (5' 0") wide which access the stage. There is one shutter 6.4m (21' 0") high and 1.5m (5' 0") for load-in from an enclosed yard. The lighting desk is in a control room at the rear of the circle. 156 dimmer circuits (24 of which are front of house). 15 non dimmer. See Appendix B - C for available lighting equipment stock and standard lighting plans. NB. There are 70 tie lines from the stage and 11 from the Pit, plus 16 returns to the stage. 48 lines are available to the FOH operating console via a digital multicore from the stage patch, plus 32 physical tie-lines. There are 7 speaker lines on stage, 2 at the flyfloor, 2 on each pack rail, 4 in the Pit and 1 each side of stage FOH. See appendix F for a list of microphones, sound and communications equipment.     Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections Northwestern University Libraries Dublin Gate Theatre Archive The Dublin Gate Theatre Archive, 1928 - 1979 History: The Dublin Gate Theatre was founded by Hilton Edwards (1903-1982) and Micheál MacLiammóir (1899-1978), two Englishmen who had met touring in Ireland with Anew McMaster's acting company. Edwards was a singer and established Shakespearian actor, and MacLiammóir, actually born Alfred Michael Willmore, had been a noted child actor, then a graphic artist, student of Gaelic, and enthusiast of Celtic culture. Taking their company’s name from Peter Godfrey’s Gate Theatre Studio in London, the young actors' goal was to produce and re-interpret world drama in Dublin, classic and contemporary, providing a new kind of theatre in addition to the established Abbey and its purely Irish plays. Beginning in 1928 in the Peacock Theatre for two seasons, and then in the theatre of the eighteenth century Rotunda Buildings, the two founders, with Edwards as actor, producer and lighting expert, and MacLiammóir as star, costume and scenery designer, along with their supporting board of directors, gave Dublin, and other cities when touring, a long and eclectic list of plays. The Dublin Gate Theatre produced, with their imaginative and innovative style, over 400 different works from Sophocles, Shakespeare, Congreve, Chekhov, Ibsen, O’Neill, Wilde, Shaw, Yeats and many others. They also introduced plays from younger Irish playwrights such as Denis Johnston, Mary Manning, Maura Laverty, Brian Friel, Fr. Desmond Forristal and Micheál MacLiammóir himself. Until his death early in 1978, the year of the Gate’s 50th Anniversary, MacLiammóir wrote, as well as acted and designed for the Gate, plays, revues and three one-man shows, and translated and adapted those of other authors.

These all now form part of the South London Downs National Nature Reserve which covers a large part of the route of this section. Other features are Happy Valley, with its rare yellow rattle plant, Devilsden Wood, the Kenley Observatory and the nearby Kenley Aerodrome. Note Most of the section is on level ground but there are three climbs (two of On the maps, chevrons them very steep with steps). The terrain is mainly rough tracks, footpaths (black arrow heads) and grassy fields. show where the route is steep. The chevrons point uphill. There are shops and cafés at Hamsey Green and a pub on Coulsdon Common (The Fox) and one just off route near Kenley Common and Aerodrome (Wattendon Arms). Also occasional kiosks at Farthing Downs and at the War Memorial recreation ground near the end of the walk plus one at Coulsdon South station. There are public toilets and car parking at Farthing Downs. It is possible to break the walk and get buses back into Croydon at Godstone Road and Coulsdon Road.

    THE FUTURE OF FAIRFIELD HALLS Sean Creighton, Norbury resident, historian, and Co-ordinator of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Network A discussion contribution by Sean FRED SCOTT, CROYDON PIANIST, ON WORKING WITH FH FH has always been co-operative in allowing me to book events there focused on performances involving local young artists across genres of music. ‘Soundpractice has staged events including lunchtime concerts, pre-concert foyer performances and events for last year's Coleridge-Taylor Festival. This last especially was a great forum for young people to perform; some students of mine were able to have premiered a piece they had written around SCT, also involving LMP in the performance. Last November saw local Youth Theatre Company Studio 74 give the first performance in Ashcroft Theatre of a new musical by Stella Coussell (South London composer) called 'Song for the World', based around the life of SCT, a further performance for BHM 2013 is currently being arranged. in addition, Soundpractice has been able to put on concerts as fund-raisers for Skeletal Cancer Action Trust, some of these have featured people affected by that disease. More of these concerts are planned for 2014. There will be a series of concerts in Spring 2014 which will raise funds for SCAT, involving a celebration of the 80th birthday of eminent British composer, and South London resident, Justin Connolly, who will also be performing himself. Future concerts in 2014 will also include prominent international artists in recital who bring their considerable following to Croydon. Included in current planning is to stage a major international-reach multi-genre music festival culminating in a collaboration to find instrumentalists, composers and conductors of excellence.

Comment: Please note the Trust was not directly consulted of this application despite it falling within our remit as outlined above. We have had extensive engagement with the Council regarding Fairfield Halls, including an Advisory Review which was carried out in June 2016 and set out various recommendations to help ensure the venue’s viability into the future. We have also formally commented on previous iterations of the development. We have previously expressed some concern regarding the ‘get-in’/servicing arrangements and layout and we consider this revised proposal to represent an improvement. We also welcome that the existing crescent-shaped artist’s entrance and sub-station has been retained.

    East Croydon Community Organisation public meeting minutes 2 December 2015 1 Welcome Esther Sutton welcomed guests & ECCO members to the meeting, outlined the agenda and asked if members could make donations to help cover the costs of hiring the hall and printing the leaflets. About 25 people attended. 2 Croydon Councillor Sean Fitzsimons outlined what was being consulted on and how to make a Local Plan comment. The deadline for comments was 18 December 2015. Revision consultation If Councils and local communities want to have a say in local planning decisions, they need to have robust and up to date local planning documents, that conform to central government and Mayor of London guidance. They must be able to withstand scrutiny from the government appointed Planning Inspector.
