ABSTRACT

The language in the song lyrics is more powerful, beautiful, and meaningful than daily language. One of the things can make the song lyric so powerful, beautiful, and meaningful is figure of speech, they can be used in song lyrics to express the thought and felling to sing and hear. This research discusses about an analysis of figurative language in Daniel Caesar’s debut album entitled Freudian. This album consists of ten songs. The purpose of this research is to find the types of figurative language used and kinds of meaning which the narrator wants to convey in Daniel Caesar’s song lyrics. This research design is descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research is type of figurative language used in the song lyrics, and for the data source it is taken from all the song lyrics of Freudian album by Daniel Caesar. The result of this research shows that the total number of types of figurative language used in Daniel Caesar’s debut album entitled Freudian are 51 (fifty-one) types of figurative language. The dominant type of figurative language used is symbol, there are totally 21 (twenty-one) data. For hyperbole there are 9 (nine) data, 11 (eleven) data for metaphor, 4 (four) data for antithesis, 4 (four) data for simile. One datum for synecdoche, and one datum for allusion. In this research the narrator used two kinds of meaning the dominant is connotation meaning. There are 30 (thirty) data for connotation meaning and 19 (nine-teen) data for conceptual meaning.
