In April, 2008, two separate Departments, namely, Department of Youth Affairs and Department of Sports, were created under the Ministry, each Department under the charge of a Secretary to the Government of India. There were 2 Joint Secretaries in the Ministry as on 31.03.2019. One Joint Secretary looks after the work of Department of Youth Affairs and 1 Joint Secretary look after the work of Department of Sports. The matters relating to Accounts & Audit are under the charge of an Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser. The sanctioned strength of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, as on 31.03.2019, was 232, comprising 49 Group ‘A’ posts, 105 Group ‘B’ posts (44 Gazetted and 61 Non-Gazetted), 78 Group ‘C’ posts.     Press Release Khelo India Youth Games 2019, an event that unearths talent and binds India’s youth Pune, January 5: An aspirational, sporting and young India will find complete representation in the Khelo India Youth Games, which will be held here from January 9. The 6000-plus athletes will truly reflect the diversity of the nation’s youth and showcase their dreams, their hopes and their desire to make India shine on global platforms. They will not only come from urban and rural areas from the 29 States and seven Union Territories but also span a wide range of ages – from 10 to 21 years. Some like Jisna Mathew, who was part of the Indian team in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, will come with experience. Backstroke swimming specialist SrihariNataraj has already been to the Commonwealth and Asian Games. On the contrary, three 10-year-old athletes – footballer Pratima Kumar (Jharkhand), Mizoram hockey player Laltlanchhungi and West Bengal’s 10m air rifle shooter Abhinav Shaw, who became India’s youngest National shooting gold medallist in November last – will pick up their first experience of competing in large-scale multidiscipline event. The 6000-odd athletes will compete in 18 different disciplines, including a variety of individual and team sport, disciplines in which India has a tradition of excellence and traditional games like kabaddi and kho-kho.Yet, you can be sure that these athletes will be bound by the common ambition of making India proud with their pursuit of competitive sport. This Ministry also supplements the efforts of the NSFs by implementing the scheme of Assistance to NSFs under which funds are provided to recognized National Sports Federations for conducting National / International tournaments, participation in international events, coaching camps, purchase of equipments.

Himachal Pradesh CM launched water supply scheme in Mandi Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the Kanda Pattan-Sarkaghat Water Supply Scheme at Cholthara in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. The Kanda Pattan-Sarkaghat water supply scheme has been developed at a cost of Rs 39.65 crore. This scheme will benefit more than 31,000 people of that area. 4. These are among the oldest of all sporting competitions. Athletics consist of track and field events. In the track events, competitions of races of different distances are conducted. The different track and field events have their roots in ancient human history. History Ancient Olympic Games are the first recorded examples of organised track and field events. In 776 B.C., in Olympia, Greece, only one event was contested which was known as the stadion footrace. The scope of the games expanded in later years. Further it included running competitions, but the introduction of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon marked a step towards track and field as it is recognised today.
