BIHAR BUILDING NEW AVENUES OF PROGRESS BIHAR Uttar Pradesh Jharkhand West Bengal In the State of Bihar, a popular destination for spiritual tourists from all over the world, the length of National Highways has been doubled in the past four years. Till 2014, the length of National Highways was 4,447 km. In 2018, the length of National Highways has reached 8,898 km. The number of National Highways have been increased to 102 in 2018. Road development works worth Rs. 20,000 Cr are progressing rapidly. In the next few years, investments worth Rs. 60,000 Cr will be made towards transforming the road sector in Bihar, and creating new socio-economic opportunities for the people. “When a network of good roads is created, the economy of the country also picks up pace. Roads are veins and arteries of the nation, which help to transform the pace of development and ensure that prosperity reaches the farthest corners of our nation.” NARENDRA MODI Prime Minister “In the past four years, we have expanded the length of Indian National Highways network to 1,26,350 km. The highway sector in the country has seen a 20% growth between 2014 and 2018. Tourist destinations have come closer. Border, tribal and backward areas are being connected seamlessly. Multimodal integration through road, rail and port connectivity is creating socio economic growth and new opportunities for the people. Lumbini, Bodhgaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar are the primary pilgrimage destinations along Buddhist Circuits associated with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. Apart from these, there are numerous other sites where Buddha and the Bhikshus travelled during his life after his transformation, which are held in deep veneration. Visitors from all over the world can travel through the Buddhist Circuit today. The Routes include Buddhist Circuit: Bodhgaya- Nalanda-Rajgir-Vaishali-Kahalgaon-Patna. Dharmayatra Circuit: Bodh Gaya-Sarnath-Kushinagar-Piparvah. Extended Dharmayatra Circuit: Bodh Gaya-Vikramshila-Sarnath- Kushinagar- Kapilvastu-Sankisa–Piparvah. 12 Landmark Projects of MoRTH in Bihar 586.55 km Total length Rs. 6,417.03 Cr Total Cost Upgradation of Mahatma Gandhi Setu in Patna 4 laning and rehabilitation work has been initiated on 5.575 km long stretch on NH 19 to revamp the Mahatma Gandhi Setu on the river Ganga in Patna. Under the project, the damaged pillars of the bridge will be upgraded with steel trusses. The project will involve an investment of Rs 1742.01 Cr. The bridge was built by the State Govt. of Bihar in 1980. It is of strategic importance, connecting North and South Bihar and being the lifeline of socio- economic growth for the state. International trade with Bhutan and Nepal is also carried out via the Mahatma Gandhi Setu. Upon its upgradation, the bridge will be of great benefit to the local populace. A key interstate road between Bihar and Jharkhand, this National Highway links the Golden Quadrilateral projects (NH-2) at Aurangabad city. It serves as an important industrial corridor, connecting two NTPC (JV) power plants and the cement factory at Nabinagar. This road is also strategically important as it connects Patna to the naxal a©ected districts of Arwal, Aurangabad and Jehanabad. As a key industrial corridor this road connects the state capital Patna to the Harnaut Railway factory and Barh Power plant of NTPC. Connectivity with Bhutan and Nepal is also provided via the Mahatma Gandhi Setu. Upon its upgradation, the bridge will be of great benefit to the local populace. At a glance 69 km length Rs. 683.83 Cr total cost 15 Birpur – Bihpur Section The Birpur Bihpur section of NH-106 is being upgraded to 2 lanes with paved shoulders. The lifeline of Bihar, this National Highway connects the East West corridor (NH-57) to backward and flood prone districts of Madhepura and Supaul. This road is also vital for the socio economic development of the adjoining areas a©ected by flooding of the Koshi river. It is also an important cross border road connecting India and Nepal. At a glance 106 km length Rs. 780.77 Cr total cost 16 Sitamarhi-Jaynagar-Narahia Section The Sitamarhi Jaynagar Narahia section of NH-104 is being upgraded to 2 lanes with paved shoulders. Passing through the naxal prone Sheohar District, this NH connects to the East West corridor at Chakia in Motihari District. It passes through the flood a©ected areas of Sitamarhi and finally meets the East West corridor at Narahiya in Madhubani District. The entire stretch runs parallel to the Indo-Nepal Border. The very important Punaura Dham, which is the birthplace of goddess Sita, is connected by this road. This NH is very important for socio economic development for backward district of Bihar. This NH connects important tourist destinations including Bodh Gaya, a world famous pilgrimage site for Buddhists, the UNESCO world heritage site Nalanda university and Rajgir. At a glance 92 km length Rs. 1,408.85 Cr total cost 18 Landmark Projects of NHAI in Bihar Varanasi-Aurangabad section The 6 laning Project of Varanasi Aurangabad section of NH-2 is the first of its kind in the State of Bihar. It falls on the Delhi- Kolkata section of the Golden Quadrilateral and connects Varanasi, Chandauli Districts of U.P to Kaimur, Rohtas and Aurangabad Districts of Bihar. The project is likely to be completed in 2018. This National Highway connects Patna, the capital of Bihar to Gaya town, a major tourist destination. It passes through Patna, Jehanabad and Gaya Districts of Bihar. The project is likely to be completed in 2020.
