IGN-1 Instructions 083017 Copy IGN-1 Phantom Ignition Module Introduction and Features The IGN-1 phantom ignition module is ideal for use in vehicles that do not have a traditional accessory wire available. Many CAN-Bus equipped vehicles do not have an ignition or accessory lead behind the radio, for triggering aftermarket accessories. In these applications, the IGN-1 can be used to supply a switched accessory wire where needed. After a quick, 3-wire installation, the IGN-1 monitors the electrical activity in the vehicle on the constant power line, and identifies when the vehicle is running, and provides an ignition trigger for use with aftermarket accessories. IGN-1 is designed to operate at 5 amps of current or less. NOTE: Not intended for vehicles that feature stop-start technology. If your vehicle has stop-start technology, please use a PAC IGN-2 (Latching Phantom Ignition Module). Wiring Information 1. Black - Connect to chassis ground IGN-1 2. Red - Connect to constant power + (up to 24 volts) 5 amps max. Phantom Ignition Module 3. Blue - Switched accessory output (once triggered) Supports up to 24 volts 1 Operation IGN-1 monitors the Red wire (constant power) and looks for voltage drops and spikes associated with a running engine. When the vehicle’s engine is running the module will provide voltage output on the Blue wire. The output on the Blue wire will be equal to the voltage supplied to the Red wire, up to 24 Volts. Troubleshooting If there is no output on the Blue wire while the vehicle is running, verify the power and ground wire connections are solid. Verify that your vehicle does not feature stop-start technology. This is where the gas engine shuts off while the vehicle is stopped and restarts when the vehicle starts moving again. If your vehicle has stop-start technology, please use a PAC IGN-2 (Latching Phantom Ignition Module). © 2017 AAMP Global. All rights reserved. PAC is a Power Brand of AAMP Global. • Please Please Don't Buy This Game Like I Did. I
“Please please don't buy this game like I did. I feel terrible and wish I could return it!”: A corpus-based study of professional and consumer reviews of video games Andrew Kehoe and Matt Gee (Birmingham City University, UK) Background This paper is a corpus-based comparison of professional and consumer reviews of video games. Professional video games journalism is a well-established field, with the first dedicated publications launched in 1981 (Computer and Video Games in the UK, followed by Electronic Games in the US). Over the next 30 years, such publications were highly influential in the success of particular video games, often leading to accusations of conflicts of interest, with the publishers of the games under review also paying substantial amounts of money to advertise their products in the same video games magazines. The rapid growth of the web since the early 2000s has seen a decline in all traditional print media, and games magazines are no exception. Such publications have now been largely replaced by professional video games review sites such as IGN.com, established in 1996 as the Imagine Games Network. However, the influence of professional review sites such as IGN appears to be waning, with a recent report by the Entertainment Software Association suggesting that only 3% of consumers rely on professional reviews as the most important factor when making a decision on which game to purchase (ESA 2015). The decline of professional games reviews does not reflect the state of the video games industry in general. It has been estimated (Newzoo 2016) that the industry generated almost $100 billion of revenue worldwide during 2016.

  • Emerging Leaders 2011 Team G Selection & Purchasing
Emerging Leaders 2011 Team G Selection & Purchasing Selection When selecting video games for a library collection, consider the following criteria: • Type of collection (e.g. circulating vs. non-circulating or programming collection). • Audience for collection (Is the collection for entertainment purposes or academic study? Will games be collected for children, teens, adults, or a combination of these?). • Curriculum support. • Game ratings. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) gives each game a rating based on age appropriateness. Ratings include EC (Early Childhood), E (Everyone), E10+ (Everyone Ten and Older), T (Teen), and M (Mature). More information can be found on the ESRB website:http://www.esrb.org. • Game platforms. Games are available on many different platforms (e.g. Wii, PlayStation, etc.). Librarians will need to consider patron needs and budget constraints when considering which platform(s) to purchase for. As newer platforms are developed, consider whether to collect for these new platforms and whether it is necessary to keep games that are playable on older platforms. Conversely, platforms affect collection weeding; the Collection Maintenance section provides further details. • Collection of gaming items in addition to actual games (e.g. game consoles and accessories, game guides, gaming periodicals, and texts on the subject of games and gaming). • Reviews and recommendations for which games to purchase. • Qualities that make a game culturally significant. • Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: Consuming the Olympics Through Video Gaming
Fred Mason Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games: Consuming the Olympics through Video Gaming Fred Mason University of New Brunswick, Canada Dating back to 2008, the series is in its 4th installment, with two summer and two winter versions, all officially licensed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The first three games of the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series were produced by Sega for the Nintendo Wii and handheld devices, and the most recent (2014) by Nintendo for the Wii U platform. The games in this series bring together popular characters from the Mario and Sonic franchises to compete in Olympic events, such as track and field and alpine skiing, in facilities that look like the real Olympic venues of the time, or “dream events” set in worlds from Mario or Sonic games. The Wii platform also enables game players to use their “Mii’s,” customizable characters that players construct to look like their real- world selves. These features encourage the association of enjoyment and positive affect, and a certain amount of self-identification, with the Olympic Games. One stream of in-game rewards that players can achieve offers information on the history and organization of the Games, and on different Olym- pic sports. This can be seen as a form of “Olympic education,” where both positive aspects and criti- cism as a form of indoctrination can be applied. Other in-game rewards encourage players to “shop” with stars earned or scratch cards. This video game series could be taken as marketing the Olympic brand with enjoyable and popular video game characters.

  • The Gamergate Controversy and Journalistic Paradigm Maintenance
Archived version from NCDOCKS Institutional Repository http://libres.uncg.edu/ir/asu/ The GamerGate Controversy And Journalistic Paradigm Maintenance By: Gregory Perreault and Tim Vos Abstract GamerGate is a viral campaign that became an occasion, particularly from August 2014 to January 2015, to both question journalistic ethics and badger women involved in game development and gaming criticism. Gaming journalists thus found themselves managing a debate on two fronts: defending the probity of gaming journalism and remediating attacks on women. This study explores how gaming journalists undertook paradigm maintenance in the midst of the controversy. This was analyzed through interviews with gaming journalists as well as a discourse analysis of the texts responding to GamerGate that were produced by their publications. Although gaming journalists operate within a form of lifestyle journalism, the journalists repaired their paradigm by linking their work to traditional journalism and emphasizing a paternal role. • Ignition Switch Quick Guide
Info Sheet Quick Guide to Ignition Switches You can use ignition switches in other applications where you need a keyed rotary switch. See our spreadsheet of switches, with an ignition switch for every purpose. What is an Ignition Switch? Gasoline-powered vehicles need a starter system to ignite the internal combustion engine, by means of a spark in the engine cylinder. Diesel engines rely on fuel compression for ignition, and some have glowplugs to preheat the combustion chamber in cold weather. We make diesel starter switches, too. The starter system is composed of the ignition system, plus the battery, and starter switch, electric starter motor and solenoid. Cole Hersee manufactures over 50 solenoids. The basis of any ignition system is to generate an extremely high voltage (about 20,000 volts) at precisely the right time. The voltage causes a spark to jump across the spark plug gap, which ignites the fuel in the cylinder. The ignition switch gives access to the ignition system. Ignition switches usually require a key to be inserted, that engages a lock built into the switch. It is frequently combined with the starter switch which activates the starter motor, but if you need an ignition switch without keys, we make those. Since we generally initiate the motion of a vehicle commencing with the ignition, having a keyed ignition is also a basic form of security. Heavy vehicles may also use a master disconnect switch to completely and safely isolate the electrical power. You guessed it. Cole Hersee makes dozens of Master Disconnect switches, as well. In fact, when you’re looking for switches for your commercial vehicle, you can’t do better than Cole Hersee brand switches.

  • Gaming Critics
Aidan Cole 1 Validity of Gaming Critics Every art form has critics and judges. Movie critics, photography critics, music judges: these are people whom the public rely on to help differentiate between mediocre and master- pieces. As a species, we want to see the best of what we can create; therefore we rely on critics and judges to help guide us in our search of praising others’ artistic expression. In recent years, there has been a new realm of critics who have surfaced: gaming critics. The official definition of video game is “any of various interactive games played using a specialized electronic gaming device or a computer or mobile device and a television or other display screen, along with a means to control graphic images.” (“video game”). Since the age of the classic arcade games such as Pac-Man, Galaga, and Donkey Kong, we have loved playing video games. They gave us a rush of excitement as we competed with one another to see who could score the highest, or reach the highest level. Jason Gastrow, a popular video game critic on Youtube known as Videogamedunkey, or Dunkey, says in a video, “Arcades were brimming with looping endless games that demanded one knee-jerk reaction after another…These were games designed to kill you (the player) fast and suck down quarters, and people loved them. Then in the mid 1980s we see the focus shifting back towards consoles with the NES (Nintendo Entertain- ment System).” (Dunkey “Difficulty in Videogames Part 2”). As technology grew, video games went through a rather quick transformation, from a passing form to a must have form of enter- tainment, and for some, an actual career choice.

  • Can We Save Video Game Journalism? Can Grass Roots Media Contribute with a More Critical Perspective to Contemporary Video Game Coverage?
Fall 08 Can We Save Video Game Journalism? Can grass roots media contribute with a more critical perspective to contemporary video game coverage? Author: Alejandro Soler Supervisor: Patrick Prax MASTERS THESIS: TWO YEARS MASTERS THESIS | DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATICS AND MEDIA | MEDIA & COMMUNICATION STUDIES UPPSALA UNIVERSITY | SPRING 2014 Abstract Video game journalism has been accused for lack in journalistic legitimacy for decades. The historical relation between video game journalists and video game publishers has always been problematic from an objective point of view, as publishers have the power to govern and dictate journalistic coverage by withdrawing financial funding and review material. This has consequently lead to lack in journalistic legitimacy when it comes to video game coverage. However, as the grass roots media movement gained popularity and attention in the mid 2000s, a new more direct and personal way of coverage became evident. Nowadays, grass roots media producers operate within the same field of practice as traditional journalists and the difference between entertainment and journalism has become harder than ever to distinguish. The aim of this master thesis is to discover if grass roots media is more critical than traditional video game journalism regarding industry coverage. The study combines Communication Power theory, Web 2.0 and Convergence Culture, as well as Alternative Media and Participatory Journalistic theory, to create an interdisciplinary theoretical framework. The theoretical framework also guides our choice in methodology as a grounded theory study, where the aim of analysis is to present or discover a new theory or present propositions grounded in our analysis. To reach this methodological goal, 10 different grass roots media producers were interviewed at 6 different occasions.
