Weather Information

Source: Cal OES Daily Situation Report - September 6, 2018 RH = Relative Humidity

NORTHERN • Gusty afternoon W winds and low relative humidity (RH) Friday east slopes of Coast Range into far Western Sacramento Valley • Gusty, mostly SW wind with RH early next week near and E of the Cascade/Sierra crest • Low pressure trough offshore will have most influence over the North Ops region for the next 7 days, no thunderstorms or precipitation expected • Gusty afternoon W winds/low RH developing Friday east slopes of Coast Range into far Western Sacramento Valley, gusts mostly 15-25 mph, locally to around 30 mph. • Winds otherwise will be lighter today most areas with not much change Friday • Weekend-onward winds include daily gusty, W to NW winds ocean to Coast Range crest and gusty, mostly SW wind/low RH expected early next week near/E of Cascade Sierra crest • Even without wind, low afternoon RH/poor to moderate overnight RH recovery at least through the weekend will be fairly wide spread with areas of overnight thermal belt conditions developing mid and upper slopes • Temperatures somewhat above seasonal values inland next few days, warmest locations mid and upper 90s, followed by cooling next week to more seasonable values in the lower 90s warmest inland places

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA • High pressure over the Pacific will expand eastward, resulting in much warmer weather the next few days. Breezy conditions will develop each afternoon along the central coast which will transition into nighttime sundowner winds across Santa Barbara County and north winds along the I- 5 Corridor. Cooler, onshore flow is expected to return for the balance of next week. • Maximum temperatures today will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s in the mountains to the lower 90s in the valleys, warming another 3-5 degree Friday. Saturday will be the hottest day with highs of 100-103 in the valleys. Slow cooling trend Sunday and Monday before temperatures fall to below normal next Wednesday. • Northwest winds of 15-25 mph each afternoon along the central coast through Sunday. Local north winds of 10-20 mph tonight in Santa Barbara County and the I-5 Corridor. North winds increasing to 15-25 with gusts to 40 mph in these areas Friday night/Saturday morning. • Minimum humidity will be mainly between 15%-25% above and inland from the marine layer today. Look for RH minimums to drop into the 8- 12% over most areas below 7,000 feet over the weekend. The lowest readings may occur along the central coast interior over the weekend. Only fair recovery across mid slope elevations with thermal belts forming due to clear skies overnight. • Possibly turning windy in the Sierra high country into the western Owens Valley during the latter half of next week.
