RESUMEN.- Se describe una nueva subespecie de Antheraea de la region de Los Tuxtlas, en Veracruz, Mexico: A. polyphemus tuxtlasensis n. subsp. KEY WORDS: Antheraea polyphemus tuxtlasensis n. subsp., Aves, Fagaceae, Mesoamerica, Mexico, Neotropical, Pieridae, Pinaceae, Veracruz. While studying Mexican material of Antheraea polyphemus (Cramer), looking for characters for a cladistic analysis, the senior author found an isolated and morphologically different population not previously described. Antheraea polyphemus tuxtlasensis Balcazar & Vazquez, new subsp. DIAGNOSIS.- This subspecies can be differentiated from other subspecies of A. polyphemus by the following combination of characters. Crenulate termen, principally that of the hindwing; P black ring of the eyespot in the hindwing extends basally across the middle of the discal cell, as opposed to that of the forewings; a blue "crescent" of strewn scales present on the eye spot on the ventral side of forewings; apical angles of both pairs of wings falcate; yellow ground color. DESCRIPTION.- MALE (Fig. 1).- General ground color yellow. Fig. 1. Scholars have traditionally believed that the Olmec relied on maize agriculture since their initial development during the Early Formative period. New research however, is providing information that is pointing to a subsistence strategy that was not dominated by maize agriculture but rather a mixed subsistence based mostly on aquatic resources. These emergent models for Early Formative Olmec subsistence have been developed primarily from the recovery of faunal remains, archaeobotanical analysis, settlement patterns, and the study of artifacts and tools. There is a need for a study to measure the availability of the local aquatic resources and the population they can support. This thesis presents a carrying capacity analysis of the fish and other aquatic resources present in the Olmec Heartland region, based on commercial fishing catch data.

Archaeological data show that the principle occupation of Totógal dates to the Late Postclassic period (A.D. 1350-1521) and was preceded by an earlier Classic period one. We conducted systematic shovel testing, mapping, conductivity survey and excavation at Totógal. Late Postclassic imperial-style artifacts, obsidian trends and Gulf Lowland ceramic styles combined with ethnohistoric information and local histories, support a correlation between Totógal and Postclassic Toztlan, the easternmost tributary of the imperial Tochtepec province (Esquivias 2002; Urcid and Esquivias 2000; Venter 2004; cf. Berdan and Anawalt 1992). Moreover, these data indicate that the inhabitants of Totógal were engaged in both Gulf Lowland and Central Highland political, economic, and cultural networks.
