Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa … great music supporting the work of Artists Project Earth …

Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa features some of the best western and African musicians collaborating on exclusive mixes of recent hits. For this album, Rhythms Del Mundo (RDM) waved goodbye to its friends in Cuba who had contributed to previous albums, and travelled to the source of all rhythm: Africa.

In Mali, RDM recorded (among other brilliant musicians), Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyate, Ali Farka Touré Band, and Rokia Traoré. Sessions also took place in Kenya, South Africa and Swaziland. Members of Miriam Makeba’s band and Senegalese musicians also added their brilliant musicianship to the collaborative tracks. Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2006 smash hit Rhythms Del Mundo: Cuba, its successor Rhythms del Mundo: Classics in 2009, and 2011’s Rhythms Del Mundo: Revival – all of which were released in aid of Artists Project Earth.

To date the organization has mobilized some of the worlds biggest artists – , , , , Beyoncé, , , , , , Plan B, Groove Armada, Gorillaz, , , , and many others – to help champion their cause.

“Rhythms Del Mundo have created a beautiful version of my song ‘’ to support some wonderful projects around the world.” - Aloe Blacc Formed in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster in 2004, APE was the brainchild of Founder and Music Producer, , and aims to raise awareness and funds for climate change alleviation and natural disaster relief projects.

The funds raised from the sale of over 1.5 million albums has provided funds to support more than 300 projects worldwide, such as:

• Reforestation initiatives in the UK, Africa, Mexico and Honduras

• Wetland conservation in Uganda

• Orangutan conservation in Sumatra, and elephant conservation in Mali

• Environmental education projects in Gambia, Kenya, Thailand, Nicaragua and the UK • No Tar Sands, Anti-Fracking and Biofuelwatch campaigns

• Solar and renewable energy initiatives in Nepal and Africa

• A Special Award for the global Transition Towns movement and in times of need, to help alleviate those suffering from natural disasters like the terrible earthquake in Haiti, the tsunami in Japan and the famine in East Africa.

2012 has seen over 40,000 extreme temperature records broken in North America alone; there have been unprecedented floods in Europe and Asia and forest fires plaguing the western US many months earlier than expected. All of us have a stake in the future of our planet and if we continue to pollute the atmosphere, destroy the forests and oceans and ravage natural ecosystems, the coming generations will curse our memory. It is a sad fact that the activities of developed countries produce more carbon dioxide emissions than the planetary systems can sequester – yet climate change impacts most profoundly on those who are least responsible for it. Therefore, funds raised from the sale of Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa will help support organisations working throughout Africa to mitigate the impacts of famine, drought and climate change. In particular, we will support projects in the homelands of the wonderful African musicians who have given their time and musicianship in support of this campaign.

In our battle against nature we will ultimately find ourselves on the losing side – because what we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. Never has it been more important to understand this and to act accordingly. Artists Project Earth is dedicated to raising awareness of these issues, and the solutions “We call APE our Fairy God-Funders!” humanity can put in place to secure its – Climate Justice Fluency Project future on Earth.

Kenny Young comments, “Artists Project Earth is funded entirely by sales of Rhythms Del Mundo albums. In buying this copy of Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa, you have made a valuable contribution to a good cause – but unlike most charitable donations, you get something tangible and enjoyable in return, as well as the knowledge that you are actively support- ing some really effective organisations and projects.”

APE is known as the ‘Fairy God-Funder’ of the climate change movement – your help will enable us to continue spreading our magic! Rhythms del Mundo: Africa is unique both as a contribution to the world of music and as an artistic expression of deep concern for the future of this beautiful world.

Together we can make the changes that are so urgently needed. Thank You. www.rhythmsdelmundo.org www.apeuk.org / email: [email protected] THE MUSICIANS
