Top seed in the girls’ event is Irina Khromacheva (RUS), whose best result in the Grand Slams last year was a runner-up finish at Wimbledon. She will be looking to go one better in Melbourne but will come up against some strong competition. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN), the second seed, was a semifinalist at the tournament 12 months ago.
