As far as I look into the future, I see the entire world in complete submission to my truth. It is close at hand that I shall gain a resounding victory. It is so because another voice speaks in support of what I speak and there is another Hand which operates to strengthen my hand. The world does not see it but I do. In me vibrates the voice of a heavenly spirit which instills life into each and every word that I speak. (Azalah Auham Pt II: Roohani Khazain Vol. 3, p 403) vii Dedication To the simple and virtuous Ahmadi brothers and sisters of Arze Bilal (Africa), who believed in the blessed personage of the Imam of the Age (as) without seeing him and then whole- heartedly fell in love with His Holiness and his Khalifas, who in spite of their poverty and limited resources extended their hospitality to the missionaries during their stay abroad, and opened their hearts and homes to them, and became their helpers and comforters, day and night, through thick and thin, with extreme love and devotion, as they fulfilled their obligation of propagation of faith. As such they offered their life, wealth and honour in the way of Allah. The incessant march of Ahmadiyyat in its quest for the supremacy of Islam continues with ever increasing advancement to its goal. These pious souls have played a prominent role in these unparalleled successes and unbelievable achievemnets. Later, graduated with Shahid degree from Jamia Ahmadiyya Rabwah. Munawar Ahmed The places where I served as Murabbi in Pakistan Khurshid include Qila Kalar Wala District Sialkot, Kharian District Gujrat and Mianwali city. Arrived in the Gambia as Muballigh in 1983 and worked as such at various places. Served as a teacher at Nasir Ahmadiyya senior secondary School for two years. In 1985 I was assigned the duty of supervision of Senegal mission. In 1994 I was appointed as Ameer of the Gambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Cape Verde. In 1997 the region was divided into three areas, each headed by a separate Amir. I was appointed Amir of Senegal, Cape Verde and Mauritania. In 2005, I came to London following directive from Hadrat Ameer-ul-Momineen (may Allah be his Helper) because of ill health and served Senegal from there; that continued till 2012. From 2008 to 2012 I had the good fortune of serving Jamia Ahmadiyya UK as ustaz. Alhamdulillah xi About Translator Born in 1937, matriculated from T. I. High School Rabwah and graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Nishtar Medical College, Multan. After working for two years in Pakistan and two years in Saudi Arabia (where he availed the opportunity to perform Umrah and Hajj), he Dr Munawar Ahmed moved to the UK. He worked in various hospitals in NHS and attended a specialist course in Chest Diseases. When Hadrat Khalifatul Masih III (ra) launched Nusrat Jahan Scheme in 1971, he offered his services, initially for three years later extending indefinitely. He started his duties as waqf doctor in December 1973 at Ahmadiyya Hospital, Kokofu, Ghana which was the first medical centre established under Nusrat Jahan Scheme. In September 1975 he was transferred to the Gambia where he worked till May 1977. Then he was sent to Nigeria. In June 1986 he returned to the UK on leave because of personal reasons. He reported back for his waqf duty in January 2000 and was sent to the Gambia from where he finally retired in April 2007 after completing a total of twenty years under Nusrat Jahan Scheme. During his stay in the UK he served as Secretary Umur e Aama UK for about two years (1997 – 1999). Vakilut Tasneef London) I had the opportunity of going through the book, ‘Arze Bilal – My memories’ written by Maulana Munawar Ahmad Khurshid Sahib, Muballigh-e-Silsila, comprising of his memoirs. Many faith inspiring incidents have been recorded and I hope the readers will enjoy reading them and it will augment their faith. When went on a tour of the Gambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone following a directive by Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (ra), Respected Munawar Ahmad Khurshid Sahib was performing his duties as the Ameer and Missionary In-charge of the Gambia and the neighbouring region. It was my personal observation that he had established good rapport with people in the SeneGambia region. Most remarkably he did not hesitate to, and was not afraid of, visiting even the highest ranking officials. He had a very loving and close relationship with the jama’at members. He mixed with them and shared meals with themand for that the local brothers respected him and listened to him. I travelled with him to Senegal and Guinea-Bissau and everywhere these features of his behaviour figured prominently. Although he was not a master of the local languages, he used them without hesitation and thereby won the hearts of the locals. During the tour, I also had the opportunity to see other missonaries and hold meetings with them and learnt how our muballighs continued to deliver the message of truth under most difficult circumstances. xv During my tour of Senegal, I had the opportunity to address many Ahmadi MPs in the House of Parliament and to lead them in Zuhr and ‘Asr prayers in congregation; that too was the result of efforts of respected Munawar Khurshid Sahib.

We have, therefore, decided to curtail considerable material from other sections of the Bulletin to accommodate the entire article in one issue. This year, Ramadan was marked by the passing away of two brothers, Jabir Muhammad and Imam Warith Deen Mohammad, illustrious sons of the late Honourable Elijah Muhammad. Brother Jabir Muhammad was the manager of the famous World Champion Boxer Muhammad Ali, and Imam Warith Deen Mohammad was the National Leader of the larger of the two groups of the Afro-American Muslim Community. Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Ilehi Rajeoon. During Hazrat Ameer’s visit to Chicago in 2004, Br Jabir Muhammad had invited us to a sumptuous fish luncheon at a posh Mid-East/Mediterranean restaurant in Chicago. A day before that, Hazrat Ameer had had a fruitful discussion with the late Imam Warith Deen Muhammad, who had also invited us to lunch at the conclusion of the meeting. A day later, Hazrat Ameer participated in an historic dialogue, discussing matters of mutual interest with the Honourable Minister Louis Farrakhan, National Leader of the splinter group of the Afro-American Muslim Community, which was held at the latter's mansion, a fortress-like residence that was originally built for the late Honourable Elijah Muhammad.

Nasrullah Khan at Sialkot. He initiated into Ahmadiyyat, alongwith his parents, at the most blessed hands of the Promised Messiahas in 1904. He was educated primarily at Municipal Board School, and then American Mission High School. Though indisposed, he secured first position in the school in matriculation examination when he was only fourteen years of age. He graduated (in first grade) from Govt. College Lahore in 1911 and was the first Indian student who topped London University in LLB final in 1914. He started his career as a lawyer at Sialkot in 1915. Though young for his age and experience, he was elected as a lecturer at Law College Lahore in 1919. He started his political career with selection as a member in Punjab Legislative Assembly in 1926. He successfully pleaded the cause of Muslims with the Indian Round Table Conference held in London in 1930, 1931 and 1932.

    Productive Strategies for Poor Households to Participate Successfully in Global Economic Processes First draft Country Report for Senegal to the IDRC By Bara Gueye1 1 INTRODUCTION Objective The overall objective of the study is to prepare an agenda of priority research for the IDRC Rural Poverty and Environment Programme Initiative (RPE) within the theme “productive strategies for poor households to participate successfully in the global economic process”. The RPE’s mission is to contribute to the development of networks, partnerships and communities of practices, in order to strengthen institutions, policies and practices that enhance the food, water and income security of the poor, including those living in fragile or degraded uplands and coastal ecosystems. Short description of the methodology; The methodological process used to carry out this study combined a set of 4 complementary phases: 1 An inception phase aimed at refining the conceptual framework of the study, defining the research scope, carrying out a literature review and drafting an inception report to inform the following phases 2 Six regional scans carried through desk reviews to have an overview of socio-economic development issues of relevance of the study and to identify relevant themes that can potentially feed into regional research agendas. Identification of current research and potential partner institutions was also part of the regional scans. 3 Country level investigations carried in the pilot countries selected in each one of the six sub- regions. Country case studies were based on participatory stakeholders’ analysis with the aim of validating the regional scans reviews. An important component of the country case studies was to make an assessment of the relevance of the research themes and if necessary to propose new themes.

    INTEGRATING GENDER INTO WORLD BANK FINANCED TRANSPORT PROGRAMS CASE STUDY SENEGAL THE NATIONAL RURAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT (NRIP) PREPARED BY: CODOU BOP JUNE 2003 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The National Rural Infrastructure Project (NRIP) is one component of the rural poverty alleviation strategies implemented by the Senegalese government since the 1990s. In order to put en end to the isolation of rural areas, rural transport has become a priority defined in the rural decentralized development. NRIP is funded by the World Bank, IFAD, the Senegalese State and the beneficiaries. The total amount of the funding is USD 238,900.000 with 63% (USD 151,700 000) brought by the Bank. Its long-term objectives are to reduce poverty in rural areas, improve living conditions of rural populations, promote decentralized rural development and promote good management of local issues. The program concentrates its efforts on building the capacities of collectivities to provide populations with services they themselves have identified. Another goal of the Program is to enable the collectivity in planning and managing their own development programs, collecting funds and generating benefits. As a poverty reduction strategy, the National Rural Infrastructure Programme includes in its first phase a component on rural community roads. NRIP is a twelve-year program from 1998 and to 2011. However, although the implementing phase was scheduled to begin in 2001, the pilot phase is not yet complete due to delays in finance processing in the World Bank as well as the Ministry of Finance in Senegal. GENDER DIFFERENCES IN THE PROJECT’S OUTCOMES In rural areas mobility is an important issue for women.

    HUZOOR’S TOUR OF GERMANY MAY – JUNE 2015 A Personal Account PART 1 By Abid Khan 1 Introduction On 23 May 2015, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V (aba) and his Qafila (entourage) set off for an 18­day tour to Germany, where Huzoor would grace the Jalsa Salana with his presence. On this occasion the Qafila was a little larger than on the previous tours I had been a part of. Apart from Huzoor and Khala Saboohi (Huzoor’s respected wife), there were 14 members of the Qafila who travelled from London on that day. There were seven security staff, Muhammad Ahmad Sahib (Ahmad bhai), Nasir Saeed Sahib, Sakawat Bajwa Sahib, Mohsin Awam Sahib, Sardar Humayun Sahib, Khawaja Qudoos Sahib and Nazir Baloch Sahib. The office staff comprised Munir Ahmad Javed Sahib (Private Secretary), Abdul Majid Tahir Sahib (Additional Wakil­ul­Tabshir), Mubarak Ahmad Zafar Sahib (Additional Wakil­ul­Maal), Bashir Ahmed Sahib (PS Office) and me travelling on behalf of the central Press & Media Office. Nadeem Amini and Nasir Amini, two cousins from Bradford, were also part of the Qafila as the designated drivers for two of the cars. A few days prior to Huzoor’s arrival, Mahmood Ahmad Khan Sahib (security staff) had been sent in advance to Germany and he had been accompanied by a young Waqf­e­Zindighi serving in Private Secretary Sahib’s Office, Athar Baig. 2 Packing advice A couple of days before the tour, I was fortunate to have Mulaqat in Huzoor’s office. Whilst, I was seated, Huzoor was going through his office mail when he came across a document in which the weather forecast for the duration of Huzoor’s forthcoming tour of Germany had been printed.
