There could, of course, be two possible explanations for this absence – either they were produced but none survive or have been found so far. Alternatively, that the brewery concerned did not produce paper labels on bottles at all. Well worth a read but, sadly, not illustrated with the labels mentioned. The NL Editor’s challenge to members to provide the images seems to have gone unheeded! “Championship Beers” identifying awards at Brewers Exhibitions etc were featured in the following NLs – 1/2016. 3/2016, 5/2016, 1/2017 and 4/2017. An e-book was produced by Keith Osborne and released in April 2020 combining the 5 parts.     ANNUAL REPORTS OF MEMBER CHAMPIONS CONTENTS MEMBER CHAMPION FOR THE ARMED FORCES MEMBER CHAMPION FOR EQUALITIES AND DIVERSITY MEMBER CHAMPION FOR THE HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT MEMBER CHAMPION FOR THE OVER 50’S MEMBER CHAMPION FOR THE VOLUNTARY SECTOR MEMBER CHAMPION FOR YOUNGER PERSONS ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE MEMBER CHAMPION FOR ARMED FORCES 2014/15 Flag Raising Ceremony & Armed Forces Day Parade Flag raising ceremony on 23 June 2014 On Monday, 23 June, I attended the ceremony at Havering Council to honour the contribution of servicemen and women by raising a flag outside the Town Hall. Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 26th June 2014. A parade formed on South Street and marched from there to the Market Place. The parade featured veterans, cadets from the Army, Navy, Royal Air Force and many volunteer groups such as the St John Ambulance. It was an enjoyable day and was very well supported by the public World War 1 Commemoration Events In my role as Armed Forces Champion, I have been involved with the WW1 Centenary events, alongside Councillor Wallace as Cabinet Member for Culture and Community. On Monday, 4 August 2014, a Multi-Faith Civic Service was held at St Edward’s Church Romford to mark the outbreak of the First World War. The service was led by Father Anderson and Rabbi Sunderland and was extremely well attended. Havering Council has organised a range of on-going events to commemorate the First World War. The Local Studies Library and Havering Museum hosted a joint exhibition which ran from August to November, exploring the impact of War in Havering.

From introducing one of the very first commercial beer cans, to launching Scotland’s first and most successful music festival (T in the Park), Tennent’s story is colourful and a fabric part of Scotland’s history. But being universally known presents a challenge in itself. How to best stay relevant from generation to generation? Connection with the 18-24 year-old market is particularly key – and 2013 brand health tracking had shown a dip. The primary objective of PR for Tennent’s Lager was to increase cut-through with 18-24 year olds, showing positive movement in brand health tracking scores by the end of 2014.

The Society publishes a Newsletter and a quarterly journal Brewery History, which first appeared in 1972. It has also published a national directory and a series of county-wide surveys of historic breweries; the Society’s archive is held by Birmingham Central Library. The ongoing threat to the historic fabric of the English brewing industry was discussed at the conference From Grain to Glass, organised jointly by English Heritage (EH), the BHS and the Association for Industrial Archaeology (AIA), which took place at Swindon on 13 June 2003; the joint BHS and Victorian Society study day From Hop to Hostelry: the brewing and licensed trades 1837 -1914 (Young’s Ram Brewery, Wandsworth, 25 February 2006); and during the AIA Ironbridge Working Weekend (Coalbrookdale, 29 April 2006).

    Marketing Society Star Awards It was early 2014 and the Design category Commonwealth Games were coming to town. Tennent Caledonian’s Wellpark Brewery would, thanks to its position on the main road from the city centre to the athlete’s village and some of the Games’ prinicipal arenas, be more in the public eye than ever before. Ambition & clarity of objectives Our brief was short and straight to the point: Raise public awareness of the brewery and bring more people into the Tennent’s Tour. Tennent’s was not an official Games sponsor so a key challenge was to create the perception that Tennent’s was at the heart of the party without falling foul of strict Games sponsorship rules. D8 and Reflex Blue collaborated with Tennent’s to deliver outstanding results. Strategic thinking & effective planning With a heritage spanning 450 years, Tennent’s as a brand has a strong personality and an image-rich visual story. It has an emotional connection to the city and its people. Tennent Caledonian appointed a cross agency group to re-vitalise the public tour of Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow. The project implementation took six months and included installations such as a six ft Virtual Lager Can, based on the iconic Lager Lovelies who appeared on cans throughout the 60s,70s and 80s and a striking showcase, a “Carry Out Shop”, designed to look like a typical Scottish Off-Sales. Strategic thinking & effective planning Tapping into the current trend for public art we commissioned graffiti artist Smug to bring the potted history of Tennent’s to life on the brewery’s external wall along the main thoroughfare to the Games.
