VOLUME 25, NO. 4 DECEMBER, 2011 LSA REPORTER EDITORS: William M. Lynk, CPL * Alvin Moebus Publication Deadline: Submit items Two (2) Weeks (14 calendar days) by 5:00 p.m. AFTER the last LSA meeting. LSA Website: http://www.LSAmichigan.org LSA MEMBER OF THE MONTH — TONY PROFERA Kustom Key Inc. of Lake Havasu, Arizona, manufactures a variety of key blanks on site. They also sell other locksmith-related products. All of this happens under the compe- tent leading of Marketing Director Tony Profera. He has been with the Company since 1990. The company originated in California and in 1987 moved to Lake Havasu. This is very famous for one large structure. (I will reveal what later in the article. Try to guess but DON’T PEEK!) * Tony hails from the state of New York but moved to Arizona to pursue a career in music which was his major in high school, but he soon discovered that did not pay all the bills! To use his marketing / management degree he took classes from A.L.O.A. and Foley-Belsaw courses to get a better understanding of the locksmith needs. His interest in music led Tony to develop a recording studio and open music stores, but moving in a different vocation required him to sell his interests in them. Now he could concentrate on marketing products at Kustom Key. Because he still has a great interest, Tony built a recording studio in his home. Tony’s wife, Katheryn, is a retired school teacher but her major in college was in art so now she has a studio on Lake Havasu. Their three grown children are scattered about the country. *The answer is: LONDON BRIDGE! It was bought by the owner of a chain-saw company and moved stone-by-stone in the 1970’s. — by Al Moebus LSA President—John Hubel, CML (586) 254-7233 Education Chairman—Aron Boag (248) 321-2244 Vice President—Ray Sinai, CPL (248) 543-5397 Membership Secretary—Alvin Moebus (313) 885-9365 Officers Secretary—Randy Montpas (810) 694-4469 Public Relations—John Hubel, CML (586) 254-7233 Treasurer—Curtis Parks (248) 594-1552 Librarian—Larry Williams, RL, CPP (248) 917-2323 Sargent-At-Arms—Alvin Moebus (313) 885-9365 Program Director—Ray Sinai (248) 543-5397 Newsletter—William M. Most of the work is in regards to simple rekeying or repairing an ex- isting lockset. For purposes of this article I will refer to the name Adams Rite when I am referring to the door hardware used on these doors. I purchased an Adams Rite Installation Template ( jig ) many years ago. At the time, I was aware of only one manufacturer who offered the template. That was Security Lock Distributors out of Chicago, Illinois. I purchased the jig mainly to install the Adams Rite Push paddle / Deadlatch combination with the Adams Rite electric release. The products were advertised in that manner. The clamp on template will install the Adams Rite flip-up deadbolt (1850MS) the hook bolt and of course the same size cut out for the 4500 ( now 4700 & 4900) deadlatch. The template has a “built in” oval shaped cutout for the strike hole on double doors. In addition another template needs to be pur- chased to install the Adams Rite electric release. Lastly, I purchased a third template to install the Folger Adam 310 series electric release on aluminum frames. As I mentioned earlier, at the time, I was only aware of Security Lock Distributors offering these products. At this time, Major Manu- facturing also offers many of these products. The tool by Security Lock Manufacturing is very well designed. It can be set to cut out the four basic backsets; 7/8, 31/32, 1 1/8 and 1 ½ inches.
