In this newsletter you can read in more detail the work that DSSN Member Schools have been doing this term. You will also find enclosed details of our School Games Competitions and some information from our sponsors. We would like to wish those leaving us good luck in their new roles, and welcome on board now staff and schools to the network. We look forward to working with you all next term with lots more exciting opportunities available to all ‘DSSN’ Schools. Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. Clare & Lilli Goodbye to Cavendish/Laureate The end of term sees the end of our time hosted by Cavendish/. After 12 years of being hosted here we are sad to be leaving such a fantastic school, and wonderful staff. As of January 2019 DSSN will be hosted by . We are very excited to be starting a new adventure. New phone and email addresses will be distributed as soon as they are available. Please bear with us in the interim. Our Laureate Academy emails will remain open for a short period.

Cross Country Over the course of one week the DSSN Team carried out the 2018 cross county competitions. The host schools we visited were Laureate Academy, Ashlyns, Adeyfield and Astley Cooper where the races were run. Luckily the weather was very kind to us over the week. Thanks must go to those schools for hosting the races and supplying sports leaders to marshal the course and hares to lead the way. Well done to ALL students who took part, what an achieve- ment.

Dacorum Apprentices 2018

We are delighted to have appointed more PE and School Sports Apprentices for this academic year. We currently have a total of 12 apprentices employed by schools within Dacorum. Our apprentices spend four days of their week in their school, supporting with PE lessons, extra curricular clubs and classroom activities. They spend their 5th day with their tutors completing coursework or with the DSSN team helping to run events. It has been a pleasure to work alongside and tutor the apprentices this term, we look forward to seeing them progress and develop next year.

Mainstream Disability Taster. Day

On Tuesday 23rd November pupils from St Pauls, Yewtree and The Thomas Coram School all took up the fantastic opportunity of going to Allianz Park to try out a range of activities for children who have physical, sensory or learning impairments. The activities they took part in were, dance, rugby, multi skills and athletics. We were lucky to have Saracens specialists in each sport to deliver on each activity. The chil- dren had a wonderful time, enjoying being at the stadium as well as having the opportunity to try out some different sports. The morn- ing was a great success!

pupils to try something different from what they may do back in school, we also set some personal challenge stations for everyone to try and achieve their own personal best.

This year’s School Games competitions have got off to a brilliant start with competitions in Table Tennis, Basketball, and Badminton.

The winning schools of these events will be taking part in the School Games in the week of December 4th.

Herts School Games Finals Week 4th - 7th December 2017 Level 3

All School Games Level 3 finals took place on the week commencing 3rd December, finals took place throughout the week at a variety of different locations.

Table Tennis

On Monday 3rd December Kings Langley U15 boys, Ashlyn's U13 boys and girls teams all travelled to Beechwood Green School to take part in this years county finals. All teams played really well on the day showing determination and resilience. Well done to Ashlyns girls team who were crowned County winners taking away gold medals! Ashlyns boys came third in their U13 competition taking home bronze medals. Well done to everyone who took part.

Boccia

On Tuesday 4th December Boccia teams from Yewtree Primary school and Longdean Secondary school headed to Wodson Park in Ware to compete against other schools across the County. Yewtree played in the PAN disability league and Longdean competed in the Physical disability league. Both teams played exceptionally well coming up against some tough competition. Throughout all matches both teams worked extremely well together, communicating and encouraging each other. Once all games were played and scores calculated Yewtree came 7th in their league and Longdean came 2nd in theirs taking home silver medals. Thank you to all who took part and well done!

U11 Basketball

On Thursday 6th December Bovingdon Academy travelled to Queens Secondary School to take part in the U11 Basketball finals. Bovingdon played 5 games in their allocated pool trying to win and score as many points to go through to semis and finals. Bovingdon played their first game coming up against some tough competition, they had some extremely tall players to defend! After a hard first game, Bovingdon came out fighting! Their play improved dramatically throughout the tournament resulting in them winning their second game. When all games were played Bovingdon finished their pool in fourth place, such an achievement! The team had a great morning, learning lots and having fun! Well done Bovingdon.

U11 Table Tennis

Greenway Primary boys and girls teams travelled to on Friday 7th December to compete in this years County finals. They came up against some extremely good competition on the day, they all worked so hard as individuals as well as a team showing off their fantastic Table Tennis ability. Well done to our U11 Table Tennis teams! Greenway girls came away with Gold medals and will progress onto the regional completion. Greenway boys finished in 3rd place being presented with bronze medals. Well Done. 2 3 0
