At Mill, parish of Stoneykirk, on the 8th inst., after a few days illness, Anthony Galloway, aged 18 years. At Whirlpool, parish of Stoneykirk, on the 8th inst., Francis, son of Mr Francis Cassidy, farmer. At Baltersan, near Newton-Stewart, on 8th inst., after a brief illness, Elizabeth, second daughter of Mr. Hewetson, farmer, Baltersan, - much regretted. At Clahannan, on the 6th instant, the infant son of Mr John Martin. On the 1st current, Mary Russell Walker, niece of Mrs Grierson, Manse, and youngest daughter of Richard Graham Walker, Esq. London. At Scotsbrig, near Ecclefechan, on Christmas Day, Mrs Margaret Aitken Carlyle, aged 84 years. At on the 2d instant, Mrs Melville, the widow of Captain Dun of the Galloway Militia. The deceased was the last survivor of a large family, which settled in Kirkcudbright in 1791. At Church Hill, Morningside, on the 2d instant, Helen Chalmers, widow of the Rev. At Little Galdenoch, Leswalt, on the 13th instant, Mr James M’Crea, farmer aged 86 years. Here, on the 15th instant, aged 21 years, Elizabeth, daughter of Mr John M’Crae, farmer, Clachanhill, parish of . At Minniwick, parish of , on the 8th instant, after a lingering illness, Mr Edward Hyslop, aged 69 years. At Howford, in the parish of Tongland, on the 2d inst., Mr James Hughan, aged 87 years. Mr Hughan was landlord of the Rev. Lion Inn, in the village of Ringford, for 35 years. He was of a most obliging disposition, and was esteemed and respected by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. At Cally, on the 11th instant, Mary Pitts, aged 72, for many years the attached servant to the Hon. Montgomerie Stewart. At , on the 12th instant, Mr John Hyslop, grocer and general dealer there. At Big, parish of Ballantrae, on the 14th inst., Agnes Brown, advanced in years, relict of Mr Peebles, dyker. On the 13th instant, at her residence, 33 Grosvenor Place, London, Jean, the widow of the late Thomas Hughan, Esq., M.P., aged 70 - deeply regretted. At Castle-Douglas, on the 10th inst., John Jardine, slater there. Same day, Serjeant M'Nallie, late of the 46th Regiment, aged 79 years. At Mains of Park, parish of Old Luce, on the 8th instant, by the Rev. John M’Dowall, Gavin Ralston Esq., Dunduff, , to Mary, youngest daughter of James Gibson, Esq., banker, Glenluce.

DEATHS

At Pinminnoch, parish of Portpatrick, on the 6th instant, Margaret M’Crackan, aged 27 years, wife of Mr William Kerr, farmer there - deeply regretted. At High Glenstockadale, parish of Leswalt, on the 4th instant, Mr Thomas Biggam, farmer there, aged 60 years - much regretted. Very suddenly, on the 17th January on board the ship Trojan, from the Clyde to St. Vincent, Thomas M’Kenzie, Esq., eldest son of Mr James M’Kenzie, Rosebank, . Mr M'Kenzie had been for the long period of 25 years in St. Vincent, previous to his visiting his friends in this country. His sudden and unexpected death is deeply regretted.

At 14 South Apsley Place, Glasgow, on the 14th inst., Eliza Kirkpatrick, the beloved wife of M. C. Thomson, Esq., - much and deservedly regretted. Here, on the 12th instant, William, aged 7 years, son of Mr Boyle, keeper of Stranraer Prison. At Drumore, on the 11th instant, after a lingering illness, which she bore with great Christian fortitude, Elizabeth, wife of Captain Robert Kerr, of the ship Red Gauntlet of Liverpool. At Newton-Stewart, on the 7th inst., Jane Welsh. At same place on the 11th inst., Margaret Wilson, wife of Mr Andrew Kellie, flesher and auctioneer, aged 50 years. At , on the 10th inst., Mrs Joseph Mitchison, advanced in years. At Boydsrig, Glenapp, on the 8th inst., Mr Andrew M’Credie. At Jordanstone House, , on the 9th inst., the Rev. Alexander Brunton, D.D., senior minister of the Tron Church Edinburgh, in the 82d year of his age, and the 57th of his ministry.

At Glenling, parish of Mochrum, on the 8th, inst., Margaret M'Master aged 86 years, relict of Mr John Livingstone, farmer. At Galloway House Gardens, very suddenly, on the 14th instant, Mr John Moncur. At Knockenharry (Airies), parish of Kirkcolm, on the 16th instant, in the 47th year of her age, Jane Clark, wife of Mr Andrew Copeland, shoemaker, - leaving a husband and 10 children to lament their loss. At Rosebank, Castle-Douglas, on the 11th instant, aged 38 years, Ebenezer Gladstone, seventh son of the late Mr John Gladstone. At Seacombe, near Liverpool, on the 8th instant, John Halliday, Esq., surgeon, a native of Kelton, of Kirkcudbright - much and justly regretted.

At 148 Russell Street, Melbourne, Australia, on the 11th September last, the wife of Mr William Murray, compositor, of a son.

At Merslaugh, parish of Kirkcolm, on the 28th ult., by the Rev. Robert Hyslop, Mr Alex. Grier, Stranraer, to Grace, daughter of Mr Wm. M'Meikan, farmer. At the United Presbyterian Church, Birkenhead, on the 22d ult., by the Rev. James Towers, John T. Pagan, Esq., of Rochdale, to Elizabeth Hannah, only daughter of Henry Anderson, Esq., of Clifton Park.

DEATHS

Here, at Charlotte Street, on the 27th ult., Mr Samuel Waugh, watch and spectacle maker, aged 57 years. He only commenced business here last week. His death was very sudden. At Mid Torrs, Old Luce, on the 23d ult., John Thorburn aged 27 years - a young man highly esteemed for his amiable disposition and his Christian conduct; and his sudden death is deeply lamented by all who knew him. At Glenluce, on the 24th ult., suddenly, David Wilkins, sheriff officer, aged 80 years. At Galdenoch, Newluce, on the 28th ult., Jean Milligan, aged 68 years, housekeeper to Mr Wallace. Her death was very sudden. At Sandhead, on the 24th ult., Sarah, youngest daughter of Mr Hugh M'Master. At Stewarton, Kirkcolm, on the 28th ult., Charles Stewart, late merchant in Manchester. At Irish Street, Dumfries, on the 24th ult., Mrs M'Guffog, relict of Mr John M'Guffog, guard, Portpatrick mail.

At Lewis Street, Stranraer, on the 8th inst., William M'Cracken, Esq., writer. Dutiful, gentle, amiable, in all the relations of life, and honourable and upright in all its transactions, few young men have obtained so large an amount of public confidence and esteem, and few there are whose death has been so generally regretted. Having lived the life of the righteous, his end was pre-eminently peaceful. Here, at King Street, on the 4th inst., Mr William Agnew, formerly carpenter, at the advanced age of 95 years. Here, at King Street, on the 7th inst., Lucinda M'William, wife of Mr Samuel Kerr, grocer, aged 24 years. At Stewarton, Kirkcolm, on the 7th inst., Mary M'Haffie, aged 84 years, relict of Mr Andrew Gibson, late farmer in Salchrie. At 147 West Regent Street, Glasgow, on the 2d inst., Mr Hugh Kennedy, formerly of Portpatrick. At , on the 22d ultimo, in the 100th year of her age, Agnes M'Clymont, relict of Mr John M'Millan. At Palnure, near Newton-Stewart, on the 28th ult., Ann M'Guffog, relict of William M'Millan, aged 96 years. At Newton Stewart, on the 4th inst, Mr William Thomson, of the Grapes Inn.

Here, at the Crown Inn, Fisher Street, on the 30th ultimo, after a few days illness, aged 58 years, Mr Robert Bates, steward of the steamer Scotia. On the voyage from Ayr to Stranraer on Saturday last, deceased fell down the cabin stair in a fit of apoplexy, from which he never rallied. He filled for many years the same situation with the Glasgow and Stranraer Steam Shipping Co. and was most civil and obliging to all with whom he had any connection. At Knocktimn, parish of Kirkcolm, on Tuesday, the 30th ult., Mr William Kennedy, farmer there, aged 49 years. A man of quiet unobtrusive manner, he during many years of delicate health gave himself to reading, and to the work of preparation for death. Seldom have we known a man, moving in the same sphere, possessed of a more enlightened understanding, or of a heart, influenced by higher principles. An admirer of the writings of Dr. Chalmers, he was intimately acquainted with his Treaties and Evidenced of Christianity. Anxious for the spiritual independence of the church, he in 1843 cast in his lot with those who in his native parish left the Establishment; and now that he has been removed by death, his family must have sustained a severe bereavement, and the Free Church one of its most devoted members and supporters. - Communicated by a Clergyman. At Panwell, near Bombay, on the 23d May, aged 25 years, Lieut. George Grant Murray, of the 3d European Regiment, only son of Mrs Murray of Garliestown. Deceased had been stationed at Poonah, and had gone down on a visit to Bombay. On his return he had sufferred a sun-stroke, and died after a few hours' illness at Panwell. He was a highly promising officer, and beloved in all circles. His remains were interred at Bombay with military honours.

She was a person of an amiable disposition, and of superior accomplishments – was a long time in England as a governess, and afterwards in a seminary in London, and from her lingering ailment was obliged to leave London and return home, where she expired with christian fortitude and forbearance. At Stannock, parish of Whithorn, on the 22d instant, after a protracted illness, borne, with exemplary meekness and resignation, Mary Ann, eldest daughter of John Gourlay, Esq. At Nithbank, Dumfries, on the 21st inst., in her 89th year, Miss Kirkpatrick. This venerable lady was daughter of the late William Kirkpatrick of Conheath, a younger branch of the family of Kirkpatricks of Closeburn. The deceased was aunt to the Countess de Montejo, the mother of Eugenie, present Empress of France and therefore grand aunt to that distinguished personage.
