Department of Mechanical Jay Shriram Group of Institution Tirupur-638660 Abstract— Conventionally digging a deep holes or larger diameter holes requires more work and rime.so in order to reduce this losses we are planning to design a post hole digger machine for Kamco Tera-trac 4W tractor. Post hole digger machine is used to reduce the man work and time for digging holes. These holes can be used for fixing electric post and different plantation such as rubber plant, coconut, sugar cane etc. For rigid power and support, machine is attached to Kamco Tera-trac 4W tractor by means of PTO (power take off) shaft and three point linkage. PTO shaft of the tractor act as a basic power input and three point linkage provide a rigid support to the machine. Guarded shaft is used to transfer power from PTO shaft to the digger machine. Blades are provided at the end of the machine is used foe digging holes. Various type of holes can be created by using different diameter and length of blades. For designing Post hole digger machine, Creo parametric 1.0 software is used. Creo is 3D mechanical CAD software in which Drafting and assembly can be done easily. The BroadFork Many gardeners and growers, especially those working on heavy soils, face the difficulty of deeply compacted soil and want to loosen and aerate it without bringing lower layers to the surface. On a field scale there are tractor-based solutions, but how to tackle the task in the smaller plot? The BroadFork is designed to be at least part of the solution! (The Glaser Bio cultivator (414) has the same objective.) Here are some of Eliot Coleman’s comments from his book The New Organic Grower:– “This two-handled deep tillage tool is known by different names, but broadfork comes as close to describing it as any other. Like most agricultural tools its genesis surely dates far back in agricultural history. It consists of a 2-foot wide spading fork with a 5-foot-long handle at either side of the fork. The teeth on the fork are spaced 4 inches apart and are about 12 inches long . The tines are designed with a parabolic shape and curve down from an attachment point at the back of the crossbar. This difference is the key. The parabolic curve . works with an easy, rolling motion. As the handles are pulled down, the tines curve under and lift the soil easily. “The broadfork is held with the handles tilted slightly forward of vertical. It is pressed into the soil as far as possible by stepping on the crossbar, then the two handles are pulled back towards the operator in an easy rocking motion. The broadfork is then lifted from the loosened soil, the operator steps backwards 6 inches, and the manoeuvre is repeated.. -

Redesigning Agricultural Hand Tools in Western Kenya WYCHE, OLSON, KARANU Research Article Redesigning Agricultural Hand Tools in Western Kenya: Considering Human-Centered Design in ICTD Susan Wyche Jennifer Olson Michigan State University, USA Mary Karanu Rural Outreach Africa, Kenya Abstract Human-centered design (HCD) is a creative approach to technology design that prioritizes users’ needs in the design process. It is characterized by three phases: understanding, ideation, and evaluation. Enthusiasm for using HCD per- sists among ICTD (information and communication technologies for development) researchers; funding agencies continue to support efforts to use the approach in development projects. However, published studies documenting each phase of the approach are few. Here, we present one such case study that documents our use of HCD to under- stand farmers’ hand tools in Kenya and to explore their ideas for new tools—designed to make weeding easier. We also present an evaluation of three redesigned tools, which were manufactured by jua kali (local metal workers). Our ªndings suggest that HCD resulted in improved tools. These ªndings motivate a discussion that elaborates on using HCD in ICTD. We suggest that the most signiªcant impacts of HCD may come from using the approach to under- stand diverse local conditions as they relate to design, and from jua kali integrating the approach into their design practices. Finally, we consider how HCD supports (and challenges) conducting ethical research. Town of Reading Adopt-A-Trail Program Handbook What is the Adopt-A-Trail Program? The Town of Reading’s Adopt-A-Trail Program is a volunteer program providing opportunities for members of the community to assist conservation area staff by monitoring, maintaining and enhancing trails and trailhead facilities. Who can adopt a trail? School and youth groups, scout troops, church, community and service organizations, businesses, families, individuals or groups of individuals can adopt a trail. Anyone with an interest in trails and the outdoors is welcome to help preserve our land and provide safe, enjoyable access to the outdoors. What can volunteers do? Adopt-A-Trail volunteers assist Conservation Area staff in managing and maintaining trail systems. Activities include keeping the trail surface free of sticks, rocks and other debris, pruning small limbs from the trail corridor, cleaning waterbars and drainage ditches, and clearing debris from bridges, stairs, and viewing decks. Other responsibilities include litter clean-up, maintaining the trailhead area including parking lot, bulletin board and trail signs, and reporting vandalism, trail hazards or safety issues. Why should you participate? Adopting a trail provides an opportunity for you to be actively involved in conservation. Helping to maintain and enhance existing trails improves the resource for all to enjoy. The effort brings trail and nature enthusiasts closer to the environment and their community. Enjoy the time outdoors and personal satisfaction gained through volunteering on a conservation trail. How to get started: If you have a specific Conservation Area or trail in mind, let us know. If the trail you choose is available for adoption, we'll get you set up right away. -

Tools must be returned to the circulation desk no later than fifteen (15) minutes before closing time on their due date. 6. Only the borrower is authorized to use the tools. No other persons are permitted to use the tools. 7. The borrower must certify that they are capable of using the tool in a safe and proper manner and will use the tool in a safe and proper manner. 8. The borrower is solely responsible for any loss or damage to a tool while in their possession. 9. The borrower will pay full repair and/or replacement costs should the borrowed tool be stolen, lost, not returned, or damaged. 10.Georgetown Peabody Library staff can refuse to loan any tool to any borrower, or to suspend the borrowing privileges of any borrower for any reason, including but not limited to any perceived violation of the Borrowing Policy.
