Captains' Report: ashlee evans & TYLER FRIEND

Bing! These are your captains speaking. Bong! e would like to thank you for travelling with us on board flight SMMC2012, which has been an amazing ride. We are sad to say that our journey is coming to a close but we have been so privileged to have piloted this leg of your Wlong-haul flight. We took off with a bang; the opening of our first-class Trade Training Centre saw some very important passengers join us. The Prime Minister of our country, Julia Gillard, along with her large C entourage of security, media, agents and politicians, were made very welcome by our amazing school. Even though they completely ap disregarded our 'no electronics and fasten seat belt signs', we can’t complain because… WE GOT ON TV!! and showed the nation what a fantastic school St Mary MacKillop College really is. As your captains we would like to thank our Year 12 cabin crew who have led our school stupendously, embracing the role as mentors and leaders and making this journey a memorable one. The Year 12 Cross Campus Interaction Program was implemented for the first time this year, attempting to amend the slight glitch in our system: the aisle separating our junior passengers from our senior ai ones. Thanks to the hard work of our crew and loyal supervisors we can proudly say that we no longer see such a prominent divide. We hope you enjoyed the on-board entertainment throughout the duration of our flight. This year’s musical, ‘Seussical’, was a t phenomenal production, where many of your flight crew were involved, including yours truly ;) The diversity of College activities has been widespread, ranging from talented juniors busking on one side, to the intense senior chess competition on the other. For ns' those passengers who were looking for a bit of variety, well we hope you enjoyed the exceptional talent that was on display in the SRC’s Variety Night production. We apologise for the small amount of turbulence that was experienced at our and Athletics Carnivals. A thorough investigation found that the level of house spirit was off the Richter scale and shook up both competitions. Before commencing our descent, on behalf of all on board, e we would like to congratulate and farewell two of our most loyal passengers. Mrs Maria Philpot and Mrs Michelle Marks will be leaving us this year after 58 years of dedicated service between them. Along with all of our other dedicated teachers who are leaving, know that MacKillop will miss you. It saddens us to say that flight SMMC2012 has now started its descent, and this leg of the journey is coming in to land. We have “We have had the Rp had such a fantastic time with you all; but for us, this is where we disembark. SMMC has given the Year 12 crew the tools and skills we most amazing need to make our own solo flights next year and into our futures. It is now our duty to hand over to the 2013 Captains, Nathan Backer time representing and Morgan Rosin, who will be piloting the next leg of your flight. We or wish them the best of luck. all of you this We have had the most amazing time representing all of you this year. Thank you, MacKillop. We hope you all enjoy flying with SMMC as much as we have and remember that you will remain in our pilot year. Filled with work, work, and more work, MacKillop students deserve a hard earned break. As usual, in accordance with the spirit of MacKillop, students have taken up their cross to make sacrifices for our community, whether it be through charity events such as Relay for Life, various door knock appeals, the 40-Hour Famine, Project Compassion, Operation Christmas Child, St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol, or other unseen deeds of charity and compassion in our day-to-day lives. ort I would like to thank all staff and students who have contributed to the successful year in regards P to charities and other school events. On numerous occasions over the last year, our school has gathered as a community to partake in sporting days and the folio celebration of the Mass. Every year I am taken aback when I see how the size of our community continues to grow. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank those students who have taken part in the Cross Campus initiative; these students serve Cap as a bridge between the two campuses and help to strengthen our sense of community. I would also like to wish every one the best of luck for next year. When St Mary of the Cross MacKillop was canonised, it was Evans’ experience that was identified as Mary’s second miracle – the reason our College is so fortunate to be named after Australia’s first saint. MacKillop Day Activities 14 SEPT 2012

MACKILLOP •DAY• Congratulations to the many staff and students who worked so hard to ensure that this day was such a success for the College community.

The students' reverential conduct at Mass, the variety of welcomed guests, the reflection of Mrs Kath Evans, and the warmth of the clergy made this a memorable event in the life of the College.

The events on the Isabella Campus were engaging, entertaining, and good fun. A considerable amount of money was raised for the Tegan Blunt Memorial Gift, funds that will be a considerable benefit to students and their families at the school. Campus ONE COmmunity MENTORING DAY + Interaction his year, Year 12 students were invited to take part in the first ever Cross-Campus Interaction Program. The program was designed to Program unite both campuses and further establish the relationship between Tthe junior and senior students – an initiative this year’s graduating class has worked especially hard to achieve. The Program entailed senior students travelling to the Wanniassa Campus once a cycle, during a lesson when they had a morning study period scheduled, and spending that time assisting in Year 7-9 classes. This allowed the senior students to develop relationships with the junior students, answer any questions they had about school or senior life and assist them with their assignments and class work. This provided senior students with the opportunity to show leadership skills and work closely with teachers from the Wanniassa Campus with whom they would have limited contact. Overall, the program was a very positive experience for all involved and continued to contribute to the fantastic community spirit at the College. Lisa Moxon, Year 12
