Purse thefts and scammers. At present there are no upcoming public events planned.

There are still reports of purse thefts in the town centre, particularly in some of the shops that do not have CCTV. Please do not leave handbags or trollies open with purses on display! It takes seconds for someone to steal your purse. On some occasions, offenders are following people and watching them use their PIN number before stealing the purse and withdrawing funds at the nearest cashpoints. Do not make it easy for them. Although the banks have CCTV, these people are very good at making sure their faces are disguised.

There is a male in town and the surrounding areas scamming people for money, £10, £20 or more at a time. His story is similar to:

“I have left my bag on a train and need some money to get home. If you give me your bank details, I will transfer the money straight back to you”

PLEASE HELP US SPREAD THE WORD – POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING HIM, BUT HE CONTINUES TO CON PEOPLE WHILE WE ARE PULLING ALL OF OUR EVIDENCE TOGETHER. Community Priority Updates

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team has continued working very hard in tackling Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) and street drinking in the Town Centre. As we have previously mentioned, several of the town’s street drinkers have been imprisoned over the past month. We have now successfully obtained a five year Criminal Behaviour Order against one of our most prolific offenders.

Over the past six months we have seen a 72% reduction in incidents involving the street drinkers in comparison to the same period last year. In addition to this, five prolific offenders have been issued with Community Protection Notices. This will again further assist in reducing incidents in and around the town.

Our Community priorities remain the same. However, this will be reviewed during a meeting being held on 26th October 2018.
