their way back, coming up short to the Jacksonville Icemen by a score of 4-1 on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Forward Nick Saracino led the charge for Jacksonville, scoring twice, while Brett Supinski netted the lone goal for SC. Goaltender Craig Pantano made 23 saves in a losing effort in his first ECHL start. Supinski found the back of the net for his fourth of the season, beating Jacksonville netminder Kyle Keyser on the far side 40 seconds into the period. Mark Cooper and Dan DeSalvo both earned assists on the only Rays goal of the evening.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Florida is in second place in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference with a 13-5-0-1 record thru 19 games. The Blades have a powerful offensive attack led by forward Michael Huntebrinker who has totaled 19 points in 19 games on 10 goals and nine assists. Just behind him is Blake Winiecki and Alex Kile who each have 16 points apiece. Team captain John McCarron is in his fifth year with the club and is once again at the forefront of the team’s offensive attack, posting 17 points on nine goals and eight assists, including the team’s only overtime winner this season. In his career with Florida, McCarron has 233 points on 100 goals and 133 assists. Defender Logan Roe has continued his dominance at the ECHL level, posting nine points (3g, 6a) as well as a league-high +20 rating. In net, Devin Cooley has appeared in nine games while earning a 4-4-0 record with one shutout, a goals-against of 2.57 and a 0.912 save percentage.

All-Time History vs. Florida
South Carolina has a long history against Florida, dating back to the 1998-99 year, which was the first season of Everblades hockey in the ECHL. Since then, the two teams having played against each other 204 times in the regular season. Last year the teams split eight meetings and SC earned points in five contests with a 4-3-1 record. During 2018-19, Florida had the better of the Rays in the regular season on their way to a division title and an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals, winning five of the eight contests. In 2017-18, the two squads split six matchups, with South Carolina finishing 3-2-1. The Stingrays have won three straight postseason series against the Blades with victories in 2009, 2015 and 2017.

Kupsky Shows Off His Stamina
Prior to Friday’s game, goaltender Jake Kupsky had played every second for the Stingrays in the team’s last five outings, a streak of 303 straight minutes played. His best performance of the five came last Wednesday when he was perfect with 20 saves in a 2-0 shutout win over Greenville. The week prior, the netminder started all three of SC’s contests in the Sunshine State on three consecutive days, totaling 96 saves. Most recently he helped SC pick up a point during Thursday’s game in Greenville, stopping 37 shots.

Supinski Standing Out
Forward Brett Supinski continued his offensive success last week and now has points in five of his last six games. In the Rays’three games, the Collegeville, Pa. native had three points on a goal and two assists. Supinski has now posted points in five straight road games dating back to Jan. 2 and has an overall total of nine points in 13 games this season on four goals and five assists.

Goaltender Sean Bonar Joins Stingrays
SOUTH CAROLINA IN BRIEF
The Stingrays agreed to terms with goaltender Sean Bonar on Monday. Bonar, 29, appeared in five ECHL contests earlier this season, his seventh as a pro, with the Kansas City Mavericks. The Delta, B.C. native spent his previous three years with the Atlanta Gladiators, suiting up for 97 games while collecting 45 wins.

Stingrays Sign Forward Anthony Collins
SC agreed to terms with forward Anthony Collins Saturday. The attacker began his ECHL career with the Rays during 2013 & 2014, playing 51 games with six assists. The forward set career-highs in assists (11) and points (14) last year with the Atlanta Gladiators. In 2020-21, Collins has played two ECHL games with the Kansas City Mavericks and two SPHL contests with the Birmingham Bulls.

DeSalvo Strikes Twice
Forward Dan DeSalvo scored twice for South Carolina on Thursday night in Greenville, doubling his goal total on the season from two to four. The Rolling Meadows, Ill. native netted the first goal of the game by converting on a 2-on-1 opportunity in the second period, and then gave SC a 3-2 lead in the third when he capitalized on a turnover by the Swamp Rabbits in their own end. An alumnus of Bowling Green State University, DeSalvo added an assist on Brett Supinski’s goal Friday and now has eight points in 15 games this season on four goals and four helpers.

OT Winner Gives Greenville Series Split

The South Carolina Stingrays took a 2-0 lead in the second period Thursday night on the road at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, but the Greenville Swamp Rabbits battled back to earn a 4-3 win in overtime in the sixth game between the two teams to need extra time this season. Forward Dan DeSalvo led the way for South Carolina in a losing effort, scoring twice, while Mark Cooper picked up two assists and goaltender Jake Kupsky made 37 saves in his fifth consecutive start in between the pipes for the Rays. Greenville’s Max Zimmer found the winner at 2:56 of the extra session.

Kupsky Blanks Greenville To Give Rays 2-0 Victory
Goaltender Jake Kupsky earned his first ECHL shutout with 20 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits by a final score of 2-0 on Wednesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Forward Tim Harrison and defender Jesse Lees scored their first goals of the season in the victory for South Carolina, as the Rays earned their third win of the 2020-21 season over Greenville. Harrison broke the ice and at 6:35 of the third period, giving the Stingrays a 1-0 lead with the tally that wound up as the game-winner. Rookie forward Jade Miller recorded his first professional point with the primary assist on the goal.
