ACC PROGRAMMING MEMO FROM: ROBIN RHODES SHAWN STUDER DATE: DECEMBER 1999 RE: YEAR-END SPECIAL As a courtesy, we wanted to remind you that there is no regular 4-hour show for the weekend nd of .January pt & 2 • Annually, at this time, we provide you with a special countdown compilation of the top songs of the year. We're doing things just a bit differently this year. It has taken hours of research, but we think you'll find the end results are worth the change as we present, "A Century of Country Music." This program is 8-hours in length and we encourage you to take a moment to review the discs for the entire 8-hours. The first 4-hours of this program features the top 50 biggest songs of 1999 and the last 4-hours are a countdown of the top 40 artists of the century, paying tribute to our country roots. Promos have been included WITHIN THE SPOT BREAKS during the Top 50 (first 4 hours). You'll find these promos at the end of several network spot breaks, before you play your local commercials. These promos DO have a tone to conclude the break for those of you running on automation systems. If for some reason you don't wish to run promos in the middle of a spot break, you may eliminate them, but keep in mind that this will have to be done manually. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. Originaria del New England, si appassiona fin da giovanissima alle grandi voci femminili della Country Music, da Patsy Cline alle Judds, da Dolly Parton a Reba. Con l’accompagnamento del fratello e della sorella, entrambi musicisti, si esibisce nei locali della zona, nei pub, nelle feste scolastiche, concretizzando le sue aspirazioni artistiche. Matura però anche la convinzione che per raggiungere il successo come artista country, l’unica via percorribile sia quella di trasferirsi a Nashville e così a 19 anni, decide di tentare il grande salto. Per sostentarsi svolge lavori tra i più disparati ma intanto si esibisce nei locali della città, partecipa a concorsi canori e a talent radiofonici, cercando di farsi notare da qualche operatore in grado di dare una svolta alla sua carriera. L’incontro fatale avviene con il giovane produttore Byron Gallimore, proprio agli inizi degli anni ’90, quando anch’egli cominciava a farsi spazio nell’ambiente discografico di Nashville, lavorando in cabina di regia per l’esordio di un cantante destinato ad una carriera stupefacente, Tim McGraw. Gallimore e McGraw colgono il grande talento vocale e interpretativo di Jo Dee Messina e ne intuiscono il potenziale artistico e discografico; uniscono le forze e danno corpo ad un album di debutto che già contiene tutto il meglio di un’artista fin da subito, incredibilmente matura e personale, innovativa e mutevole, seppur rispettosa anche delle ambientazioni sonore più tradizionali.
