Created by Sherwood Schwartz and inspired by “Robinson Crusoe,” Schwartz developed what he believed to be a meaningful show that represented various citizens of America, brought together to survive on a deserted island. With his selection of characters -- the wealthy, the glamour girl, a brainiac, a wholesome girl, the misfit and the resourceful bull of a man -- Schwartz had hoped that the audience would find someone on the island with whom they could identify.

  • This N That Plus Some More Stuff
This N That Plus Some More Stuff I was trying to come up with a catchy title for this first article of 2021but I decided the above is better than “How Much Worse Can It Get?” I do hope this year is a good one for everyone but we know there will be challenges and blessings. When you are young the passage of time means good things. You can’t wait to drive, or get out of school, doors opening, new possibilities, new events in your life. As you get older it sometimes means your circle of friends becomes smaller, events get harder, and sometimes you can’t find the door. It is good we mark the passage of time for it reminds us of what is and is not important. One big lesson I have learned is the value of time and its relation to opportunities. “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:10) Our lives are like a bag in which we pull out one day, the number of days in that bag is limited. One does not know the number of days one has, therefore, don’t take it for granted. While writing this article, Friday, January 1, 2021 I came across an article by Ken Weliever which I thought worthy of sharing as it relates to one of today’s sermons. Happy New Year 2021! People want to be happy. We pursue happiness with passion. But happiness does not come by looking for it.

The third season continues the comic adventures of the seven outcasts as they attempt to survive and escape from the island on which they were shipwrecked. Most episodes revolve around conflicts of dissimilar outcasts and their failed attempts - invariably Gilligan's fault - to avoid their plight. The season premiere aired Mondays at 7:30-8:00 p.m. (EST). Initially, it was scheduled for the series to resume at the end of its third season, but at the last minute, CBS decided to resume their older gunsmoke show (which is soon vaulted to the top five in the rankings) and the fall of Gilligan Island. This came as a shock to both the cast and the show's creator, Sherwood Schwartz. At the time of its cancellation, the series ranked 44th out of 101 shows in total. Immediately after the end of the show, it was sold in syndication, in which it became a great success. However, Schwartz was forced to hire lawyers and audit United Artists Film Studios because they did not pay royalties in a timely manner. Critically, the season was originally brushed off, but contemporary reviews saw the season in a much more positive light.

  • Shakespeare on Film and Television in the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress
SHAKESPEARE ON FILM AND TELEVISION IN THE MOTION PICTURE, BROADCASTING AND RECORDED SOUND DIVISION OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS Compiled by Zoran Sinobad January 2012 Introduction This is an annotated guide to moving image materials related to the life and works of William Shakespeare in the collections of the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress. While the guide encompasses a wide variety of items spanning the history of film, TV and video, it does not attempt to list every reference to Shakespeare or every quote from his plays and sonnets which have over the years appeared in hundreds (if not thousands) of motion pictures and TV shows. For titles with only a marginal connection to the Bard or one of his works, the decision what to include and what to leave out was often difficult, even when based on their inclusion or omission from other reference works on the subject (see below). For example, listing every film about ill-fated lovers separated by feuding families or other outside forces, a narrative which can arguably always be traced back to Romeo and Juliet, would be a massive undertaking on its own and as such is outside of the present guide's scope and purpose. Consequently, if looking for a cinematic spin-off, derivative, plot borrowing or a simple citation, and not finding it in the guide, users are advised to contact the Moving Image Reference staff for additional information. How to Use this Guide Entries are grouped by titles of plays and listed chronologically within the group by release/broadcast date.

ESSAY LEGAL TALES FROM GILLIGAN'S ISLAND Robert M. Jarvis* I. INTRODUCTION Gilligan's Island, a 1960s comedy, ranks among the most influential television shows of all time. Despite the fact that the last original episode aired thirty years ago, the show is more popular now than when it first appeared. Each day, re- runs bring the characters back to life, and it is claimed that the show has been presented more often than any other tele- vision comedy.! Although the series has been the subject of numerous studies, its legal facets are almost never mentioned.! Gilligan’s Island Themed Party Ideas The eternally popular Gilligan’s Island TV show turned a “3 hour tour” into a 50 year franchise. The situation comedy series featured Bob Denver, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer, Russell Johnson, Tina Louise, and Dawn Wells. It aired for three seasons on the CBS network from September 26, 1964, to April 17, 1967. The show followed the comic adventures of seven castaways as they attempted to survive (and in a later movie escape from) the island on which they had been shipwrecked. Most episodes revolve around the dissimilar castaways' conflicts and their failed attempts (invariably Gilligan's fault) to escape their plight. Turn your Lodge into a Gilligan’s Island retreat or the ill-fated S.S. Minnow by decorating with inflatable palm trees, makeshift tables constructed of boards and sawhorses, Tiki designed “hut” bars, and luau supplies. Ship supplies like sailor and skipper hats and nautical-themed items can be found here and here. The castaways should be represented in costume as hosts made up of members of the Lodge and Chapter Boards of Officers or other volunteers.
